I'm rather pessimistic. Ted seems more concerned with keeping the Packers well under the cap so he can sign his own FAs as he chooses rather than taking a chance and fielding a Super Bowl caliber team.

The loss of those defensive guys I see as addition by subtraction. Just because you hear about big name FAs, it doesn't mean that automatically makes us better.

There's absolutely no doubt the Packers defense didn't get any better in the first 10 days of free agency. Most likely it got even worse.

While I agree that signing a big name free agent doesn't automatically improve the Thompson mostly standing pat doesn't do the trick either.

2015 - 2016 was a prime window: not a lot of FA losses, but no impact from the draft. 2017 is a retrenching.

Now, if the young CBs can show improvement, Thompson hits on a couple of All Rookie Team contenders at RB and CB, the team stays healthy, and the competition does not, anything is possible.

That's a steep hill to climb.

The key problem is not losing FAs; it's not getting enough impact out of guys on rookie contracts.

It's same old, same old...Thompson needs a good draft. You'd figure one of these days he'd get high value out of the rookies out of random probability, providing Capers can avoid confusing them.

If so, 12 will have to be at his all time best. And even that likely won't be enough.

We had 12 pretty damn close to his all time best at the end of this past season, and then the defense got exposed, and unfortunately the defense hasn't gotten better so far this offseason.

Pending a trade request, Rodgers isn't winning jack. If he went down for good tomorrow, we are looking at a 2 win team.
Really?? With all of the off-season, the dregs of FA, and the draft available, you don't think a third win couldn't be found? I mean the fourth best QB in Packer history is still available. Cutler would be good for a third win. I mean we play Cleveland and the Bears twice this year.

Both loses without Rodgers lol. People don't really understand how bad this defense is. We need to score 30 a game

as bad as it was at times, our defense kept teams under 30, 12 times. and if we just score the league average of 22 points last year we win 8 games so all of you estrogen laden drama queens can cool it on the histrionics LOL

Without Rodgers, we don't sniff 30 points. Whether the defense lets down, or whether the offense can't score, it adds up to the same result....loss. That's the point.

This team is deeply flawed, and luckily for ole Teddy boy, AR12 keeps winning games somehow.

Aaron Rodgers covers up a multitude of sins.

it was "estrogen laden drama queens" with a case of histrionics. Get it right.

anyway, when you make a claim that we can't win a game without scoring 30 and someone posts what actually happened in real life, well I guess real life could be considered drama by some standards. But when average offense gets you 8 wins even with this defense, it's not the same as saying we can't win a game without scoring 30. Do you follow me?

and yet I didn't

Perfect !! because those are the games that stand out..the losses in the playoffs where they've given up more than 30 pts are what ppl really remember . The fact that you give up an avg Of 35 points in just about all your loses in the playoffs the last several years speaks volumes of how terrible Capers system is mixed with the holes on defense. But they held teams at just around 22 points a game in the regular season

OHhhhhh, i totally see how your claim of not being able to even beat the bears or browns without Rodgers TOTALLY relates to a loss in the NFFCG LOL

Regardless of what his point was, it's impossible to overlook the collapses from the defenses in the losses in playoff games the past 8 seasons, giving up an average of over 36 points per game.

The big picture point is that we have to have a defense that can hold up under the pressure in the playoffs against the best competition in the league. I mean, if the goal is to actually get to and win a super bowl.
