Ha Ha is having a good year? I was thinking this was his worst year yet, but maybe I'm not seeing what he is doing behind the scenes?

but I agree with you, I will take the 2010 defense over what we have seen so far from this defense. I am also holding out hope that this defense will improve once healthier.

I didn't particularly think it was good or bad, kind of slightly above average but much of that could be do to the lack of players in the secondary; i put him in my comment because his name was brought up in the post I was replying to.

Vikings (and Colts) both appear to me be standing at the edge of the cliff with knees wobbling. The Indianapolis paper is really laying the wood to the Colts right now.

Colts record is that of a shock to the league. That should not be. And Vikings dropping two games, should be bringing hope to the GB Packers!

Both have complete disasters on the offensive line. The Colts defensive line is one of the worst in the league.

In 2010 the Packers suffered a ridiculous amount of injuries during the season and lost a close game to the Falcons in Atlanta. Making the playoffs as a wild card might not be so bad.
I like your optimism and that parallel did cross my mind as well. The difference is that was a great defense. In 3 of the 4 playoff games they came up with big stops when the opponent had a chance to win or tie. Based on what I've seen so far I don't see this unit being capable of that. I mean could you imagine these guys needing to stop Tom Brady in the final two minutes? I can't

The defense wasn't very good early in 2010 either. They couldn't stop below average Washington and Dolphins teams in OT.

They allowed 17 points on average the first 8 weeks and Washington started at the GB 38 or something and MIA was at midfield, they both got FGs. That doesn't really compare to allowing a 75 yard TD drive in 3 minutes.

Well, if we're playing against Tom Brady that means we will have made it to the Super Bowl. I think most Packer fans would take that opportunity right now. The NFC looks wide open, with the Cowboys the current front runner. The teams in that division tend to beat up on each other though, so it's premature to call them the favorites. I think our defense is talented and could be very good if we get some things cleaned up in the secondary. Still a lot of football to be played though, and I'm just going to try and enjoy the ride.

Stop Brady on one drive and we win the Super Bowl? I'll take that scenario right now.

Good points. Defenses aside, the current team though has only lost to good teams so far compared to the 2010 team.

The overall point is there isn't any reason why this team can't get better and contend for the Super Bowl

it's hard for me to see us get into the playoffs as a wildcard. I think at years end you will have a handful of teams from the NFC with 6 losses and I think we will be one of them. Unfortunately I think all our loses come from teams in the NFC. I think the Packers need to Win the North to make the playoffs. I see us dropping one on the road to the Lions, Eagles, and at home against the Sea Hawks. Next month they better get healthy and hope they get hot or we may fall out of the North running all together. I think the Wild Cards go to Dallas and someone else. Whoever doesn't win the North will be out all together.
Yep. I agree. Maybe better to not make the playoffs and get some better draft picks and maybe a new coach....

Also, to put the Atlanta game in perspective, they are far and away the highest scoring team in the league and averaging 33 PPG. 48 against a good Carolina D. Matty Ice is having an MVP year, Julio and Freeman are legit weapons. So while it's disappointing to give up 33 to them, going into their house missing our top 3 corners and Matthews, it's not surprising. Injuries are no excuse but I fully expected it would take a track meet to beat them and we came up a point short. I'd take our odds in another track meet if we can get at least some of Cobb, Montgomery, Cook, and Lacy suited up this time around.

I'd like to be better than 4-3 at this point but even given that disappointing start we would be a playoff team if the season ended today. Still like the upside on this roster to finish better than what our pace is right now and then we'll see what happens in January.

The important thing right now at least isn't so much the record as at least for the last 2 weeks we are no longer asking what the hell is wrong with Rodgers and if the offense will ever wake up.

Sounds like his playing time had been reduced and contract negotiations weren't going anywhere. Belichick saw an opportunity to get something for a guy they weren't resigning and was expendable due to other players abilities.

Collins played close to 80% of the defensive snaps for the Patriots so far this season.

GB hasn't played up to their potential for a season and a half now...

The offense has performed on a high level over the last 1 1/2 games. The secondary has to improve though.

Absolutely no doubt about that.

This offence has yet to put together a complete game this season.
No doubt this is a Super Bowl contender? Sorry, plenty of doubt here. If the league having a down year and no strong team stepping up and pulling away is this team's best hope and selling point, that's not much of an endorsement.

By the end of the month, if not sooner I would hope that Cobb, Montgomery, Cook, Matthews and Rollins are all back. If we can win at least 2 if not 3 (or 4) games in Nov. we will be in good shape. Getting Randall and Lacy back sometime in Dec. will just make us that much better. Just have to keep our fingers crossed that we don't lose anyone else along the way.

Here's my worry, once the Packers get Lacy and/or Starks back, does McCarthy go back to the unimaginative offense that the Packers have fielded for the past year (prior to Starks/Lacy injuries)? The offense has been much more varied, imaginative and effective since McCarthy was forced to actually innovate due to injuries, I'm just not sure he'll stick to this once he doesn't have to anymore.

In my opinion there's no doubt the Packers have enough talent to be a Super Bowl contender. It's a matter of playing up to the potential though.

Well my thoughts are this. If the Packers have to play out the rest of the season with Jackson, Monty and Ripp playing RB, all of those new plays we saw in the Bear and Atlanta game could become old and unimaginative too, especially, if they don't work. A healthy Lacy or another quality RB at least gives you one more weapon/option.

Looking online at the first link that popped, Starks is supposedly out for four weeks beginning mid-October, so another two until he potentially returns.

Starks started practicing in limited fashion today.

While this is true, I noticed that the first 4 weeks he was at 100% on the snap counts but last week only 61%. Sound like Bill was moving on from him. Smart move on NE part. If you can't keep him, and you have a suitable replacement, get something for him.
