Well the Vikings did what I expected and we've got a game in Candlestick....but the JETS possibly putting the Cowboys permanently in our rearview mirror? That might be the biggest treat of the day.

The Niners defense is no joke. Holy crap they handled the Rams today. Now +93 in scoring differential.

Thanks for pointing out.

Perhaps this would be a lot of work, any idea though if any of those 7 teams have a better or equal record than the Packers at this point?

Entering week 6 the Saints had the toughest strength of schedule while the Buccaneers, Chiefs, Rams, Steelers and Jets had opponents with a better combined winning record than the Packers after five weeks.

New Orleans and Kansas City went 4-1 as well.

At this point I don't see a threat from anyone in the division. I think we are a lock to make the playoffs, so I'd rather worry about possible seeding down the road. Since we lost to the Eagles, it's up to the NFC North and the rest of the league to lower their standing so that we see them in Lambeau for a second time. I shouldn't have to remind anyone how hostile Philadelphia can be, and in the postseason they rival CenturyLink.

Unfortunately I don't share your opinion about there not being a threat in the division. In my opinion it will be extremely tough to win the North, a win tonight vs. the Lions would be huge as the Packers would improve to 3-0 against division foes.

If we come into our own, only to be blocked by the 49ers again, I'm not going to be happy (thinking back to playoff losses in 2012 and 2013).

Seems like every time we have a contending team, there's ONE team in the NFC that's better that stops us.

What team in the NFL has the best defense?

Some may argue the Patriots with a points per game allowed is 8, but the patriots opponents have a combined record of 10-23. Out of those 10 wins by the patriots opponents, not a single win was by a team over .500. The only team the Patriots have beat with a record over .500 was the Bills, who have not beat a team over .500. The patriots combined opponents points per game average is 15.5. That yields a -7.5 point differential.

The 49ers points allows per game is 12.8. However, 9ers also have not beaten yet a team that is over .500 with a combined record of 9-20. The 49ers combined opponents points per game average is 22.2. That yields a -9.4 point differential.

The packers are 4-1 with an opponent combined record of 15-14. The packers combined opponents points per game average is 22.5. While the packers points allowed per game average is 18.8. That yields a -3.7 point differential.

The Bears have a points per game allowed of 13.8. Their combined opponent record is 14-14. Their combined opponent average points scored per game is 20.42. That yields a -6.62 point differential.

While the Packers have faced and beat the toughest opponents, the 49ers have held opponents to the lowest points scored.

I swear the Vikings and the Eagles are the football team versions of Bi-Polar. Flip a coin and you'll either see a team that would appear to be a top echelon team...or gutter bowl syndrome. Insane.

Tonight's game with the Lions is a HUGE game for a variety of different reasons. The lions have won our last 4 meetings, that in and of itself is unacceptable, we need to change the mood around this match up. It also sets us up across the board as the clear leader in the division and create us to be the hunted...I still think MLF and company is playing with a chip of no one expected the team to be great (and I'd argue they are not, but are heading there)...once we establish ourselves as a favorite can MLF and team continue to grow when the situations change from attempting to establish ourselves to we have and now must defend.

Yeah, the Bears and Vikings are considered to be more hated rivals, and they probably are.
But there's nothing I hate more than losing to the frigging Lions. They should be relegated to the division afterthought.

Yup. I was kinda underestimating them earlier, but they just snuffed the Rams completely.

Far as NFC, only Giants, Skins, Bucs and Cardinals are struggling.
North is the only division with everyone > .500
Falcons too but then Matty always gets a good game vs us in recent times.
It's tough match between all the rest and will depend on week in week out performances.

Pats seem to be running away in AFC.

I liken the 49ers to what the Bears were last year. A lot of their success is defense oriented, however IMO 49ers QB situation is better than the Bears had. They are a legit concern for any offense.

And the 49ers have one of the best rushing offenses in the league too.

Here's how I view the NFC at this current moment:

Tier One: 49ers, Saints

Tier Two: Seahawks, Packers, Panthers, Vikings

Tier Three: Lions, Cowboys, Bears, Eagles, Rams

Tier Four: Cardinals, Bucs, Falcons, Giants

Tier Five: Redskins

And the AFC:

Tier One: Patriots

Tier Two:
Texans, Chiefs, Bills, Ravens

Tier Three:
Colts, Steelers

Tier Four:
Raiders, Broncos, Jets, Browns, Jaguars, Chargers, Titans

Tier Five:
Dolphins, Bengals

The Chiefs will have 10 days to get ready for the Packers, but the Packers will have 2 weeks to get ready for the 49ers. If we’re a team that’s serious about contending, we really should win one of those two.

Honestly, I feel at the moment the blueprint for taking on the Chiefs is starting to form around the league while the 49ers are just flat out kicking you in the jaw and saying we can hit you harder. Much easier to plan on schemes and such than deal than prepare to absorb a mack truck hitting you; you either survive it or you don't really.

The blueprint might be spreading for handling what the Chiefs have been doing lately, but Andy Reid has been a stellar offensive mind for like 40 years. He will adjust to the adjustments. I think what's limiting them most right now is Mahomes' ankle.

The Niners are certainly a more physical team, but there is a lot of scheme and design to their rushing attack. They aren't just running the same concept over and over and winning every one on one battle. They too will get adjusted to, and then Shanahan will adjust to those adjustments.

That's the NFL. Evolve or die.

I'm wondering if this year's Rams is not as good as last year's.

Oh, they clearly aren't. Gurley is a shell of his former self, but that isn't really the issue. Their offensive line has been abysmal basically across the board. People keep talking about blue prints to "solve" McVay... it's called "have his entire offensive suck at the same time." Excellent blue print.
