After significant digging I did find # routes run for 2022... totaling 58. 12.8% of the snaps he played he went out for a pass. I don't think that matters at all to bolster your opinion of Lewis' receiving contributions. Lewis was in the game as a run-blocker 393 snaps of his 451 (87.2%)!! My point still holds that when Lewis was in the game the defense knew chances were pretty high that it was a running play. MLF/AR's offense was predictable... exact opposite of their desire.
Good find, I briefly looked for routes run, where did you find it?

The numbers seem to match my "eye test", I just don't remember seeing him past the LOS running routes, very often.

I really like what Gute did in the draft for the TE position and I think both Musgrave and Kraft will/should be seeing a lot of playing time. Not to mention Deguara and maybe Davis getting snaps as well. MLF has some new offensive toys to play with and as much as I loved Big Dog, I'm excited to see what the 2 rookies can do.

I don't believe anyone was arguing his receiving contributions that I could locate in past posts. People were just merely pointing out that numbers didn't match a claim is all. Doesn't really have to change anyone's perceived value or lack of value.

Look up Tonyans' numbers as well...I think many will be surprised to see his isn't crazy high routes run either.

Also curious can we decipher if this includes short release routes? Block, block, release and go? That'd be so tough to know or measure I bet.

just thought I would add my two cents. I think if we are keeping an extra kicker; probably better not to use another space. And just to have Mercedes as a blocker does not seem valuable enough to me anyway. So no. They did not draft an O lineman because I think they said they were very happy where we are at the position. In that case, we really should not need Mercedes to be another pass blocker. And if they are going two on one; that should really be something a player can learn. It's mostly about positioning imho. I thought he should have gone out for more passes. He was usually wide open. I hope the game plan is very flexible and they can notice during the game when the Defense is just not paying much attention to a particular position. But don't need Mercedes for that.

Could you please show me where and when, good or bad, that I posted anything about Lewis' receiving contributions.

Sorry for reading-into your nit-picking regarding the numbers I use for my opinions. Utilizing his route running #'s of 12.8% of the snaps that he played shows that 7/8ths of the plays that he was in the game were running plays. Dead-give-away that MLF was most likely running the ball when Lewis was in at TE.

Some of those non-route plays could also have included pass plays that he stayed in and blocked either by design or an option situation called when a blitzer showed.

Again none of that takes away from if or if not he has value of any kind.

Sorry but no, just lining up another offensive lineman would not in anyway be the same. Big Dawg knows every in and out of MLF system and TE playcalls and tasks. You can be ready to move on but also admit Lewis is vastly more than just an additional lineman lining up wider than a tackle.
Um....you don't block every possession you don't get a pass thrown to you...if that is the case this dude's efficiency per route ran is INSANE NEXT LEVEL.

@tynimiller, the stats clearly show all he was used for was blocking. However, it does speak to his leadership that teammates want to bring him back. Again, I'd be fine with him being an assistant coach. As a player, he's just done.

I actually never made claim of the sort only that the figures presented at first were not accurate. I already addressed the percentage of routes ran as well and I wasn't shocked by his figure, nor Bobby's which is a lot lower than many will probably assume as well.

Folks always think when someone merely corrects a claim that they believe contrary to the person, not at all the case. I personally see more value in Lewis than many, which is fine, I also however also see immense value in allowing growing pains to occur by running two rookies perhaps a lot...the only risk you do is perhaps they drown when they otherwise wouldn't have but obviously we've deemed that risk is worth it.

I hear ya. All either one of us did is point out that the methodology used was not the best possible. Heck, I even started my statement with "while I do not disagree". Yet it seems when anyone, even when it is just perception, disagrees with one of the guys they shoot first and ask questions later.

Honestly, there is a valid argument on both sides of it. Personally if we see an injury happen and Lewis is still out there he better be called asap. His knowledge and blocking ability is something which is still elite IMO for a TE and would love Kraft and Musgrave to learn from that...if we aren't going to bring him back as a player and he is thinking retirement...I say ask him what it would take to come be a coach.
With a team that just needs help to fill a role and already has proven weapons Lewis could be a fit. Even blocking inside the 10. But on a team that is weak at the TE position from a pass catching standpoint it is better to go young and develop. Although Big Dog made some plays inside the 10 while in GB he should have made more whether due to the play call or his ability to get free. Mark Chmura and Bubba Franks were always Favre's go to guys close to the goal line. Think of the 2 times we were there against Tampa and had to settle for FGs. Think of the fumble he had against the 9ers in the playoffs.

If we find ourselves having to discuss conflicts with multiple people on multiple topics, we might consider what that conflict has as a common denominator?

It took me awhile to study that and investigate that concerning our QB1 the last decade or so. There were multiple parties having various issues across multiple seasons and we eventually learned it wasn’t Mike McCarthy or Leroy Butler or Ted Thompson or Greg Jennings etc.. When Terry Bradshaw, who is one of the easiest going guys around, has to flip script on his opinion of you? you’ve got serious issues.

I’m glad we’d pulled the rug out on the old regime, especially at QB. That said a tremendous amount when a large % of fans can’t wait for a HOF QB to go away. How bad must it be? pretty bad.

I can truthfully say I’ve not been this excited since the opening of the 2011 season, when we knew that we knew we could be a dangerously competitive team. I think Brian could’ve handled things a little better with Aaron (mainly communication wise) but he was also a newer GM so he had his hands full with #12 also there. Ted Thompson softly labeled Aaron in the kindest way he could and it’s hilarious he used complicated fella. Time has a uncanny way of revealing the truth. In our case (roster wise) the common denominator has been found out and sent packing.

It’s time for Brian and Matt to run the show and these offseason additions are just the tip of the iceburg in Roster building. If GB has any degree of success this season, we could be really, really dynamic once we hit FA hard again (see 2019) soon and combine that with another ~Dozen draft selections at a more + draft order. Add 2-3 great Starters from other teams and I see us deep playoff competitive inside 2 seasons. We also have the draft firepower to get a top tier QB if needed, so it’s not even conditioned on the success Love. Love is a bonus though and IF he hits we could be in for a treat.

Don’t worry. If you’re a poster who suffers from HCN (Highly Combative Nature) You’ll have have plenty to argue about in the meantime! :whistling:

LS Jack Coco was waived.

Packers signed 3 tryout players to the roster.

The 3 signed: long snapper Broughton Hatcher, cornerback William Hooper, and defensive lineman Antonio Moultrie.

Whereas I don't think we will see a SB birth, I am expecting more than 8 wins. Although Rodgers has more experience, I expect Love to use more of the field, look for 1st downs instead of TDs, and use his legs more effectively. He might not have as many passing yards as Rodgers, but overall the offense will do as well, or better, than last season.
I appreciate the optimism… wish I shared it lol.

We still are not far removed from having a playoff caliber team.

Unfortunately Rodgers playing at an MVP level was the main reason for the Packers being a playoff team.

Actually, Lewis run blocked on 256 of his 451 snaps (56.8%). In addition he was used in pass protection on 73 snaps (16.2%) and ran a route 114 times (25.3%).

Look up Tonyans' numbers as well...I think many will be surprised to see his isn't crazy high routes run either.

Tonyan ran a route on 370 of his 591 (62.6%) snaps last season.

I thought he should have gone out for more passes. He was usually wide open.

Lewis was mostly wide open because nobody expected him to be targeted. If the Packers would have tried that more often teams would have adjusted.

You're right about one thing, it's pretty bad. But the one thing that is really bad is the spoiled fan base not being able to appreciate a HOF quarterback enough to want him gone because they truly believe they're entitled to having another one taking over for him.

I'm pretty sure you said you wanted to bring him back to the team. I'm not trying to get into some argument. I'm just pointing out reasons I don't want him back. I think it would be a waste of a roster spot. That is all. Nothing personal.

I didn't think I was shooting off at all. Just pointing out why I think we need to move on from Lewis.

You gentlemen have a great day and chat with you soon!

When I said I never made such a claim meant I never made a claim contrary to what you had just said: "the stats clearly show all he was used for was blocking" Personally I assumed about 30% of the time Lewis was sent on routes...and maybe closer to 35%-40% if one included delayed release type routes. Yes, I see value in having him here playing in 2023's reset year, but that doesn't mean I think he is some dual threat type TE offering.

Fair enough, I think this has been exhausted. I'm personally glad they are moving on from him. Call it a rebuild. Call it a reset. Either way, we are cleaning house, turning the page, and going with the young guys.

Wow. Just wow.

If we get the #1 pick it's more likely Rodgers has a meltdown in NY but plays in a big enough % of games.

I dont know what to say. Love looked good, very good in the preseason and in the small amount of regular season play. If he stays healthy, we will be all right.

Honestly, I don't know what you see in Rodgers' or Love's play. Rodgers isn't perfect and Love isn't garbage.

Jordan Love may (or may not) turn out to be a very good quarterback in this league, time will tell. There is, however, a learning curve, and he and the Pack will just have to play through it...A lot of young, inexperienced talent at key positions in this offense, so I expect mistakes to be made.

The defense is talented, and they'll need to step it up this year and be something more than just respectable. Special teams saw a drastic improvement last year, and hopefully under Coach Bisaccia that continues. I would note, however, we have already made a change at long snapper and apparently kicker, so there may be an adjustment period there as well.

All that said, there is reason to be optimistic about this team - The cupboard is not bare. I think, barring significant injuries, they'll be better by season's end than at the beginning, and will be poised to make greater strides in 2024 (especially with, in all likelihood, two first-round draft picks). This team has a solid foundation, and a capable front office, and so I see the arrow as pointing up.

Go Pack Go!

All very true.

But the game against Philly was really impressive. Hurt was just killing us and Love came in for the 4th quarter with 11 mins left. He led us on 2 straight scoring drives against Phillys' top 3 defense. He played with so much poise - it should make all packer fans optimistic.

One game doesn't prove anything, but it's so much better than if he looked like garbage.

So when Lewis was in the game (if your #s are correct) GB ran 42% and passed 57%. What was the overall run/pass ratio?

I am kinda in the middle of you 2 guys. As of right now if you asked me if the Pack had a better chance of winning the division or finishing last in the division at this point my opinion would be last. I obviously hope to see improvement to change my opinion and would "LOVE" to be wrong.
