I honestly don't know. Nobody does.

But tieing up 18 million of your cap for 5 days in FA when your obviously looking for CBs is far from the "risk free move" that some would like it to seem

It seems like their timing was really intentional.

On 3/14, it came out that they were in talks with Rashaan Melvin along with the Raiders. On 3/15, it came out that Melvin was in contract discussions with the Raiders. He signed the next day with Oakland, the 16th, which was the same day that the Packers signed Fuller to an offer sheet.

I'm not claiming this as anything more than speculation, but the way that I read that situation is that Melvin was the last "first wave" guy that they were interested in. So when that fell through, either they didn't want to pay what Oakland paid or Melvin preferred the Raiders or whatever, they decided to give Fuller a shot. My guess is that anyone else on the market that was left at that point they felt strongly would stick around for a while, as free agency tends to slow down after that first week or so.

So I suppose you could say that it was a calculated risk. The reward of either landing Fuller or forcing the Bears to pay him on their terms outweighed (for the Packers) the risk of possibly missing on someone in the interim. If that was their calculus, then they were clearly correct-- no corner of note was signed in that time.

Well id argue Honey Badger was a player of note to come off the board. How interested the Packers actually were in him.is open for debate though

Calculated or not it wasn' a risk free move as what people are implying. That's what I'm saying

Packers never had a chance with HB. He said Houston was almost his immediate choice.

I thought the trading perennial all pro and fan favorite CB Damarious Randall for an over the hill career backup QB would do it.

Now we foolishly attempt to sign a CB to upgrade our secondary and still I wait. . . .

Then we don't sign some subsaharan rodent . . . .

When is that "Fire Gute" thread going to get started?

Fair enough. I had forgotten about Mr. Badger.

Matthews would be sweet and Williams would be decent considering our cap after Matthews. This would be quite the breaking news. I don't see mention of it anywhere.

I’m not sure this is true, but if it is I wonder why they’re interested in Matthews. He’s a slot only. Maybe they’re trying him out as Cobb’s heir apparent? He’s only 25.

There are plenty of articles saying that Matthews makes sense for a Jordy replacement and that Tramon Williams makes sense for the Packers to bring back. However nothing on Green Bay being in contact with either of them and especially nothing on them visiting. Not to say that couldn't be under the table. I mean we all seen what happened with Julius Peppers. But I doubt it.

If Matthews is brought aboard, Cobb might be in hot water.

Jordan Matthews is an interesting possibility. He is decent with some untapped potential. Not sure he had much QB help the last 2 seasons.

Tramon, hey. Not sure what he has left. Can't hurt to see.
