My son in law takes his Mother and his Aunt out there every year. Sometimes my daughter goes with him. (If she doesn't have concert stuff scheduled at the University.) When the SIL goes, he plays cards, and knows when to quit. He always wins just enough to pay for their trip, then he quits. A couple years ago he won enough to pay for their trip, their hotel fees and their meals. I'm not too good at cards, so I'd probably take a bunch of change for the one armed bandits. ;)
The only time I go to a casino/hotel is when we have very special visitors that may not "get it" and we have to go there to see them. A very small handful of our visitors think we just flock to the same places that appeal to them, too, and that living here is like being on one constant vacation. Not so. Most locals despise going to the Strip or Downtown. I do, that's for certain. Away from the touristy areas Las Vegas is a place to live -- with real neighborhoods, churches, schools, parks, shopping centers and all the usual stuff that make-up a typical community. We also have some out-of-the-ordinary places nearby, such as Nellis AFB and Hoover Dam, plus extraordinary National Parks and natural beauty in every direction. And no State income tax.

Instead of factories we have casinos. Way back when I lived in WI nobody ever spent their free time hanging around the factories. Same here.

The wife and I like to visit National Parks and things like Hoover Dam.

Then you would not run out of outdoorsy things to do for a long, long while.

I concur. Red Rock, Mt Charleston, Lee canyon, Pahrump (hehe... let the others figure it out when they get there), natural hot springs... lots of good stuff. They can go check out where Lamarr Odom OD'D... The possibilities are endless.

The places that you can reach in a day's drive or less are absolutely incredible. That's the hook for me.

Itkovian gave me a bottle of beer to sample. He said he didn't like it. We are agreed. It is probably the most awful tasting beer I've ever had. It's called Maple Mistress and brewed by Saucony Creek in Hazleton, PA. It's an Imperial Ale brewed with "pirate spices", butternut squash and maple syrup. My first couple of sips had me thinking I was drinking perfume. Blech.

Mugiemoss Road? You guys sure have some strange names for roads. Southern California has so much raining too. Years of El Nino always bring so much rainfall.

yep, it's pretty much the same here just now, El nino is upping the rain just now. our street names are just more imaginitive than 42nd street or 5th avenue ... :D

Holy sh**, I heard that there were massive rainfalls and floodings in Northern England around York, did not know that it's that bad in Scotland too.

yep, it's been like this here for over a week, even a friend i have in england has only just realised today how bad it is here just now. all the national news cares about is englandshire. then people wonder why we come across as hating england/the english, when we really have no issues with (most) english people
