While I agree with you on that being the most likely outcome, ideally Hundley has a solid preseason to increase his future trade value and either Callahan and/or Hill show enough that Hundley becomes expendable sometime before the end of the 2018 season when his rookie contract is up.

It seems like I'm in the minority here but I'm not keen on trading Hundley before his rookie contract expires at all as I think having a decent backup quarterback is important. In addition the Packers would most likely receive a third round compensatory pick if another team decided to sign Hundley as their starter during the 2019 offseason.

I agree, the Packers should most definitely hang on to Hundley if....
  1. His trade value is less than or about equal to his compensatory pick value.
  2. They don't have a capable #2 to take his place.
  3. He finishes his rookie contract and we still don't have a capable #2 and he resigns reasonable back-up money.
But as Packer fans we probably all want to see...
  1. Hundley's trade value sky rockets after an impressive preseason and the Packers pick up a first round and other picks for this future stud QB.
  2. Both Callahan and Hill look impressive and ready to back-up Rodgers.
IMO, Hundey will be on the team at least one more season and eventually we will lose him to either a trade or Free Agency, unless the unthinkable happens and Aaron retires.

I guess Hundley will sign with another team for a chance to start once his rookie contract expires.

It's extremely unrealistic to expect Hundley to yield a first round selection in a trade, let alone even further picks.

I think it should be a forum rule that nobody is allowed to mention Rodgers and retirement in the same sentence. ;)

I don't think an impressive preseason would get us a 1st round pick in return for Hundley. Can't see that happening.

There are some that think he is worth that now or very at least very close to it.

Guessing those who think Hundley is worth that now might be viewing it through Green and Gold tinted glasses. I also think if he was worth a first rounder, the rumor of the Packers shopping him during the draft may have come to fruition via a trade. The difficulty I would have with parting with Hundley too soon, is the fact that neither Callahan or Hill are probably even close to being ready to back up AR. Although I have said it before, if AR were to go down for any significant time, it probably won't matter who is the Packers #2 QB, season over....unless Hundley IS that guy.

I'm convinced they're wrong about it and no matter how Hundley performs in this year's preseason I don't expect any team to give up a first rounder and additional picks to acquire him.

I think those advocating a premature trade are the same ones who think he will garner significantly more than a third or fourth round comp pick and I am with you in that, I don't think he will. If he is that strong of a backup keep him around as insurance and take the third round comp pick we will get if he does get a chance to prove himself worthy in real game situations (which I honestly hope he doesn't)
