Well... he wasn't the best offensive lineman in the league... but he was pretty bad. That's my epitaph.

Was always pulling for the local dude. Watch him play high school and have many mutual friends...hope the dude can rebound. Great young man...but just flat not working PERIOD. No matter where we drafted him, wasn't worth keeping.

I’m from Warsaw, IN, my son played against him in football and track. We both were excited to see the Packers draft him but it just didn’t work out. I hope he catches on with another team but it’s a hard road. Good luck Jason

Getting waived as an injured player leads me to surmise that Gute and the new staff were fed up with guys who spend too much time in the tub. I hope it sends a message to the rest of the team.

Spriggs is waived-injured. If nobody claims him he'll go to IR. At that point the Packers will likely seek an injury settlement which is based on the amount of pay due over the expected period of recovery. If the player declines a settlement, it's the team's responisibility to keep him on IR and provide medical and rehab treatment until he is deemed recovered from the injury at which time he can be released.

So, we come to the end of the Jason Spriggs era, a player who never progressed past "good college tackle". It happens. Sometimes a guy tops out early and does not fulfill his draft projection. Consequently, he held his own against lesser edge rushers but got beat too often by the good ones.

I still think he might have made a respectable RG where his range and balance issues would be less of a problem, but we'll never know, at least not in Green Bay.

I have no personal takeaways, but I have noticed a positive drum beat for Alex Light out of the coaching staff ever since he signed last off-season as an UDFA.

nah. it's just that every o-lineman on the 90 man roster is better than spriggs...AND he's hurt. he's topped-out skill wise. messages like you're suggesting are foolish.

I still think he could’ve adapted to OG, his strength was impressive and it showed at the combine.
I guess many guys can fill that G role also. Oh well. Best of Luck Jason

That's interesting, because I would say that functional core strength is one of his biggest deficiencies.

Probably the worst investment of three draft picks during Thompson's tenure as the team's general manager.

Yeah, reports have been mentioning that Light took snaps with the first team offense at right tackle when Bulaga was given a rest during camp.

In hindsight a bad investment, but at least Gute isn't afraid to move forward. The OL just got a little stronger with more attention/reps being given to Light and hopefully shore-up the back-up OT position.

I haven't heard glowing reports on Light, i've barely listened to any camp stuff, but the bits I have have not been praiseworthy for Light at all.

Yes, Thompson traded the 57th, 125th and 248th selection in the 2016 draft to the Colts to move up to #48 to select Spriggs.
It is most definitely not wasting 3 picks. A case could be made for wasting 4 picks though.

Although a few don't agree, this math has been debated ad nauseam several times, the Packers used the following 3 picks to obtain Spriggs: the 57th, 125th and 248th. Instead of drafting 3 players, they got 1.

Or simply put, they used those 3 picks to obtain the #48 pick and used it on Spriggs, but that doesn't add a "4th pick" to the math.
