Absolutely. It should have been retired long ago. Apparently forgotten - or unknown by recent generations - is that Hornung was also the place kicker and that when the Packers got in the red zone it was Hornung country. Taylor was great. Starr was the best. But from the 10 yard line to the goal, Hornung was unstoppable. He has an amazing knack of reaching the goal line that few players have ever had in the history of the sport.

I couldn't argue one way or the other, but to truly use those statistics one needs to know how many attempts were made by each back. Jimmy might have had many more opportunities. From the link in post #3...
"We do know it was Jim Taylor gaining most of the yards for the Packers, and it was even Taylor scoring more of the touchdowns. Hornung rushed for 50 touchdowns, an average of one every 17.9 carries. With the Packers, Taylor rushed for 81 touchdowns, an average of one every 22.4 carries.
In his career, Taylor scored 62 touchdowns from one-to-nine yards. Hornung had 42 touchdowns from that distance (includes two receiving scores). Taylor had 76 touchdowns inside the red zone, compared to Hornung’s 51."
Hornung country?
Idk so much about Hornung's jersey, the number 1 jersey hasn't been worn in respect to Curly Lambeau. I believe the punter Mortell is the first player since Lambeau to wear #1. We should keep that alive moreso than Hornung.
I don't have the redzone touches, but it's immaterial. IF Taylor got more carries inside the 20 wouldn't that make it "Taylor Country", then instead of post #28 "Hornung country"? Both played for GB for 9 years, and Taylor's numbers (yards, touches, touchdowns) eclipse Hornung's.I couldn't argue one way or the other, but to truly use those statistics one needs to know how many attempts were made by each back. What punter Mortell ?
The Packers signed Peter Mortell, an undrafted rookie who grew up in Green Bay, to compete with Masthay this offseason.
In his post, Ed DeCosmo described "Hornung Country" as such: "Hornung was unstoppable. He has an amazing knack of reaching the goal line that few players have ever had in the history of the sport." To me that's describing efficiency and not just number of TDs.I don't have the redzone touches, but it's immaterial.
