So if you believe some of the reports, things continue to deteriorate between Rodgers and the Packers. I am seeing a few media outlets reporting that, as well as what the Packers are asking in a trade. I have to wonder if the "QB in the deal" was prior to them signing Bortles. Really can't think of many QB's, of teams mentioned in trades I would want to see included in any deal. Especially if the Packers feel Love is the guy they want to go with in 2022. Get as many draft picks and maybe a player or two, but not a QB.

"The Packers were looking for two first-round picks and a second-round pick as well as a "key player." The Journal-Sentinel added that the Packers are also looking for a quarterback in any potential deal."

I too am dubious if any QB they wanted included would be considered a QB for the future. Front office went all-in Love and I can't see then giving up on him after only one season, especially a season with extremely limited practice time to allow him to improve.

More hypothetical trade rumors. While I'm sure Gute does have a number in mind for what he wants for Rodgers in trade. I'm also pretty sure no more than a handful besides him knows what it is and I highly doubt any of them write for ****** sentinel or the crappy mountain news.

The article didn't really state anything new either. Though as more time elapses I can understand why the tone is less optimistic.

I can kind of see Lock, but if he had any kind of good outlook, I just don't see why Denver would give him up as a "throw in". Bridgewater might have made sense, had Bortles not been signed. Derek Carr? Way too expensive for a guy that appears to be headed to backup status.

I just don't see why a team would be willing to give up a decent QB in such a trade and don't see how some of the names being thrown around are that much better than Bortles. Also, if Love is to get his shot, I don't see the purpose of just getting a guy like Bortles in as a 1-2 year starter.

Take an extra pick or non- QB player instead and go with Bortles, Love and whoever at #3.

I don't know, I think teams have inquired and while Gute may not have gone deep into negotiations, it wouldn't surprise me if he said something like "at this time we are not trading Aaron, but if we did, we would be looking for something in the neighborhood of ......"

I am also pretty certain that a lot of the scenarios being kicked around are generated by media, fans, etc of those teams being rumored to potentially being interested in a trade. I can imagine that every Denver Sports talk show that does Bronco stuff, has done a lot of speculation on what it would take to get Rodgers in Denver.

Call me pessimistic, but like I said on draft night, the longer this draws out, I think the more likely Rodgers is done in Green Bay.

I am of the opinion that if there was a contest to guess what the Packers get in a trade for Rodgers the winner would have a lower score than the draft contest winner.

Tribalism is a bizarre thing in human nature and is so prevalent in our society.
Sure it is. It’s a natural consequence of being human, very similar to the innate fear caused by human self preservation. Not wanting to walk near a cliff or speak in public for fear of physical or emotional duress.
The flip side of that is a very large crowd in the other corner. As humans we preparatorily brace ourselves for a relational split. To avoid a reasonable probability of impending pain or discomfort (caused by a sub category of separation anxiety) we become guarded in nature. We then take sides and are unwilling to compromise from our position of fear.

Personally I don’t really care either way what happens with Aaron Rodgers. Sure, I have my leaning desires of what I think is acceptable and such, but my selfish desires play last fiddle to my belief system. But I’m also an odd cat, I can walk away from the sport on a dimes notice (I did it last season simply to show God in my actions that he is first in my life and nothing has a grip on me like him) I feel doing that gives me a better perspective not because I’m better or smarter or have it figured out .. lol but rather because I’m not yolked in any fashion. I can agree with parts of both arguments on Aaron Rodgers and it’s all pretty light n transient either way. I don’t like Aaron's prideful ways... but I’m not Aaron Rodgers judge I’ve got my hands full with old school 101 and his shortcomings. It keeps me busy

PS. If Aaron publicly insults my Packer family? For that reason I’ll shake the dust from my feet and I’ll smooth kick him to the curb! Throw the Packers 2 day 1 selections and a $25mil+ Gift card (his salary difference) and I’ll put Aaron in a full Nelson and give you one sucker punch.

I'm going to guess....not as much as some think/hope for. Also, sending the League MVP to a team is probably going to mean the picks are going to end up being later in the round.

I predict they may have to settle for 2 firsts (2022 & 2023), a second and a starter of medium grade.

If they can get that or more, as much as they probably want to just force him to sit/retire, you gotta take the picks to improve your now Rodgerless team.

Exactly. Like I said, Gute most likely has an idea. Any GM should have an idea for any player on his team. Besides Gute I could see Murphy and Ball as possibly being privy to that information and less likely LeFleur and maybe a few GMs from other teams who may have called. So it may be a couple more than a handful but I'd guess its still in the single digits and I doubt any of them are talking to "journalists" about it.

The article linked to from the Denver newspaper even said hypothetical in its headline. Something CBS sports conveniently forgot to mention.

I know the benefits of waiting until after June first but I also know that, in the case with cutting a player, teams can release them earlier and simply designate them a post June 1 cut to take advantage. I always thought they could do that with trades as well but I'm not sure. If they can and, like some think, its a done deal what possible benefit could there be to waiting

Sounds like it comes down to whether or not Gute and the Packers are willing to put all their eggs in Rodgers basket for the foreseeable future. And if his play falls off, or gets injured, the team will be hobbled for awhile.

Or Gute could just do nothing, and then it's up to Rodgers whether or not he plays under his current contract or retires.

IF Gute doesn't feel there's enough offered-up he's not obligated to consummate the trade... AR could remain a Packer.

IF AR chooses to stay away from TC he'd face a non-waivable fine of $50k/day. Rather than immediately retire (& pay back $29.8Mil bonus $$ giving the team '21 cap relief) AR could just stay away. Staying away until Week 9 would cost around $5.25Mil in fines. Not retiring but sitting out the entire season would accrue $8.4Mil in fines. Not sure if GB has any recourse to force a decision? IF AR gets pissy I would hope Gute would squat on his rights rather than cut him, but that wouldn't return any draft picks or cap relief in '21.

Not sure I agree with your points,

Although I am not sure if I would give up a decent QB myself for an older QB if I didn't have a QB problem, or QB wasn't a team weakness, it is Rodgers we are talking about, one of the best QBs ever and one coming off an MVP season.

I do think that we should request a QB in a trade if possible because we don't know if Love is ready. Throwing him in too soon(unless you are saying we should start Bortles?), even if you want to just forget this season and get his rookie season out of the way, could hinder his development and may even ruin his career, and Love is also an unknown, you don't know how he is going to turn out long term. Finally, while you are not going to replace Rodger's production in QB play, this is a Super bowl contending team, so you hate to throw away this season completely and rebuild for the future if you can help it. Hopefully, we could get a quality starter or two in a trade while getting a qb that combined with the other new players, is good enough to keep this team from having a big drop off in talent/play on the field.

I am not anti-Bortles, but I do think most of the names being mentioned except for the Denver QBs are a lot better than Bortles, and I think we would be a playoff team with a decent starter. Also, I know this probably sounds crazy to many, but I actually think that Carr is a very underrated QB, he has played on some bad teams. I think he may even be considered a star QB/top 10 QB if he had played for a decent organization that fielded good teams. His stats are actually very good, and he is also up there in terms of leading his team on game winning drives and 4th quarter comebacks.

Guesses have been all over the board.

Here is my thinking:

Two teams that Rodgers wants to go to, Raiders and Broncos, are in the same division. I heard a Raider fan call in saying that 'whatever it takes, do the deal.' He felt in a division with Mahommes in KC and Hebert in LA and Rodgers going to Denver, the Raiders will have it very difficult the next decade. The same can be said for the Broncos. I think the caller is right. Therefore there may be a bidding war between the two teams.

Anyway, my original idea was a trade with the Broncos for 2 firsts a 2nd and Patrick Surtain.

We play bortells for a year than with a mid draft pick and an extra 1 and 2, we make a run with Love.

I like your way of thinking. I'm not a fan of "trade for a QB" scenarios because we SHOULD run with Love if Rodgers leaves. Worst case scenario is we tank this season and can then combine multiple high round draft picks to get a top-3 prospect in next year's draft.

While I know we don't have all the facts, but sure feels like the ball is in Rodgers court and he seems to have decided he wants out of Green Bay. So short of Gutes head on the chopping block, not sure the Packers have a lot of moves left.

Throwing him in too soon(unless you are saying we should start Bortles?), even if you want to just forget this season and get his rookie season out of the way, could hinder his development and may even ruin his career, and Love is also an unknown, you don't know how he is going to turn out long term.

That was exactly what I was saying. Without Rodgers, the Packers aren't going to be a playoff team for awhile. Bortles is adequate enough to give them some time to evaluate and potentially have Love ready to go by 2022. Bringing in another 2nd rate QB, doesn't change much, as a matter of fact it probably complicates things with giving Love as many opportunities as possible. I see Bortles starting and Love coming in if a game is out of hand by the 3rd or 4th Q.

Finally, while you are not going to replace Rodger's production in QB play, this is a Super bowl contending team, so you hate to throw away this season completely and rebuild for the future if you can help it.

I would disagree. Without Rodgers, this team will not be a SB contending team in 2021. Lock, Bridgewater or Carr would not change that one bit.

I would rather take the full cap hit this year. No reason to spend more cap money for 2021. Honestly, without Rodgers, it would be time to trim players that aren't going to be around after this season. If that means trading Davante, because he states he won't resign due to Rodgers being gone....let the bidding on Adams begin.

Well I'm happy to run with bortles for a year. I'm of the belief that Love is too raw. Starting him a year too soon will likely ruin him. Another season on the bench will greatly improve his chances of success.

I think the 2019 Saints were a better all around team than what the Packers would have without Rodgers. Teddy had 15 TD's and 11 int's for the Panthers last year. Maybe Bridgewater wins 2 more games than Bortles, but 8-9 isn't much progress over 6-11 and loses you valuable draft positioning. I just don't see how 2021 is salvaged without Rodgers, short of trading him for Tom Brady perhaps.:roflmao:

I don't think the Packers are even entertaining starting Love, based on what Gute said last week, as well as the signing of a veteran QB like Bortles.

I think what we would see if Rodgers is gone, is more playing time for Love during the regular season, especially once the Packers are eliminated from the playoffs.

That's not quite the impression I get. My impression is he is willing to come back, but only if he gets the guarantees he is looking for. And those guarantees would mean GB is locked in for many years no matter what. Not sure at all Gute is willing to potentially sacrifice GB's future like that. Which puts the ball in Rodgers court.

I don't think Rodgers wants to invest in the team this year if there's a possibility he's going to be cut loose at the end of the season. I find that somewhat understandable, but he did sign the contract, and there are few guarantees in life. But if you're a HOF quarterback, you make your own luck apparently.

Again. My feelings won’t be that hurt as long as we get lots of draft capital and roll lots of his $ on someone else and maybe get a bonafide starter in that trade.

I’d be excited to see what we can eventually do with an extra $25-35mil/season and several extra early day 1 and 2 draft selections over 2-3 seasons.

We’ll need to start planning and spending resources for Rodgers planned departure either way inside 2-3 seasons. Maybe this is the push our FO needed to get brave and go into uncharted waters.
