Not that it matters much now but with the talk about Rodgers telling free agents he's not coming back to GB, I wonder if this influenced Watt when he chose Arizona. Doesn't make a ton of sense that he spilled the beans to free agents considering Jones resigned here. You'd think Jones would jump ship given the chance.

No indication that he contacted outside free agents. Just in house soon to be Packer free agents. I suppose it could have happened but that would be even harder to keep quiet. Personally I think they just don't care and it could be that part of them are happy to be rid of him. Maybe it influenced Jones to sign. We will never know.

Players talk just like any other co-workers talk. Again, because Rodgers said something the media is rushing to make it sounds as juicy as possible. First, most FA's go where the money is, Period. A good team offering a lot of money probably gets the nod over a poor team offering a lot of money, but it always takes a lot of money and it the larger amount usually wins.

I bet the conversations went something like, "hey, you gonna still be my QB", "Doesn't look like it" and you know what it means? Nothing. Every single one of us has said something about family, work, personal life, etc that we never meant and purely out of frustration with a situation. "I'm never coming back here again" a famous one in WI, "I'm never drinking again", or the "i'll never talk to that person again". when in reality, you go back there, you're ********* by 9 am the next morning and have a great old time with that person.

I hardly think they started out with Rodgers calling other FA's, "hey man, don't sign in GB"

I think Rodgers wants to stay and have the commitment, that's obvious. he's not happy about the current situation, that's obvious. The rest? there's more than a few embellishments in the media these days.

When I first read that I thought it read that John Kuhn wouldn't rule out a return to the Packers. I was like "what do we need with a 38 year old Football player?" Then I realized what it said and how old Aaron is :D

Agree on the free agent thing. If he had been calling guys and sounded sure of his destiny, this story would have broke a long time ago. It does go to show you how just a tid bit of a story can take bigger and bigger legs. Like Mondio said, he probably casually said to someone the same thing he said to us "I don't control where I will be, so who knows if I will be back". So now that goes to "Yeah, I had a feeling when Aaron told me that, he might not be back" to "Aaron told me he doesn't think he will be back in GB" to "Aaron doesn't want to play for the Packers ever again". What did they call that game as a kid? "Telephone"? You tell someone one thing in a big circle, they to the next and so on and by the time it comes fully around to you, its not even close to what you said.

We will probably never know the full truths of all of this, but I am sure much of what we have been told we know, is a byproduct of the Telephone game.

Then if that is the case, we should get a ton for him :)

You still haven't given me your prediction for what the Packers will get in a trade. :whistling:
You’ve dodged roughly 67 points that I’ve made in this thread but you want me to respond to all of yours. :D

For the record though, I did answer that.

when was the last time GB didn't have at least 3, more often 4 QB's for OTA's and a good part of Training camp? Signing a guy or 2 was going to happen regardless of Rodgers.

Only 67? I counted 73, but I will take your word for it. For the record, I didn't see your response because if I did, I wouldn't have asked a 3rd time. I know one simple question feels like I have put you on the spot to answer many, but I haven't.

I think the Packers need to take a hard line on trading Rodgers. Even if it means passing on draft capital, they should not be creating a precedent for every other disgruntled player to demand a trade. If Rodgers won't play for the Packers he should retire.

Yes, this will be the next "Big News". People are going to freak out because we signed QB's and that could imply Aaron is being forced out and done.

Now if we talk Drew Brees or Brett Favre out of retirement, then that might be news worthy.

Gute has made it abundantly clear he doesn’t look for “a” (insert position) player. He had 2 at times he made it sound like 3 WRs he wanted, he didn’t just want any wideout. MASSIVE difference.
Some people absolutely refuse to accept the reality
As Packers fans proved with Favre they aren't very loyal to the players which is ironic for all the owned by the community bs...
loyalty comes with expectations of also behaving in a mature and respectful manner. ****ishness doesn’t play well in small town Wisconsin. Green Bay is not Hollywood, New York or Miami.

You really think Jones isn't on Rodgers side?

That attitude is clearly part of what makes him great at his job...
We know that some players are not on Rodgers side. The Jerry Krause thing was done in chats with multiple players. So, the information which doesn't show Rodgers in a good light, was put out there by a teammate.

I hate how Schefter worded this tweet. The first couple times I read it my brain omitted the word "other" Just say Regardless how this situation works out, Rodgers and Love are the only 2 QB's on the roster. Packers are looking to add a couple QB's to the roster for OTA's and training camp, including a veteran. There Adam, fixed it for ya, easy peeze.

I did the same and thought the same....and we bought it....mission accomplished for Schefter.

With technology and social media where it is at now, compared to 15 years ago, if some of us thought Favregate was bad, Rodgersgate is going to probably get worse, so strap yourselves in.

He might have been telling guys this because he fully expected to be traded. Isn't that one of the stories coming out of the Rodgers camp?

Lol, the Favre induced fiasco drove me crazy, made me bitter and anxious. Worst week of my life in that regard. No way I’m gonna let Rodgers take me down that path again. I’m beginning to feel excited about the process of moving forward (I now feel it is very unlikely Rodgers will play for us again). The unknowns of the future is exhilarating. I have every intention of happily supporting our team through the great unknown.

I'm in the same camp and as much as I want to see the Packers just call his bluff and force him to retire, I would be in favor of trading him to the highest bidder, if the value of what is received warrants caving into a trade. I know many think we will get "multiple 1st rounders and other picks and perhaps a starting player". I am not so optimistic, the longer this drags out and the more negatives around #12, we might be lucky to get a first and a second.

I don't really like the idea of digging in our heels and not getting anything. Trading him might feel like we lost and caved, but in the end, the team gets improved by what we get in a trade and isn't looking like the bully that won't let Aaron play ball.

It'd be nice if they could all get on board for one more year. All players, coaches, FO, fans with the understanding that this is it. Go for broke with a couple of free agents. Rodgers leaves/is traded on fairly amicable terms at the end of the year. Fans can enjoy a one last hurrah and not be blindsided by drama of Rodgers not wanting to be a Packer anymore. etc etc etc. I think it'd make everyone feel better about the situation regardless of the team success at the end of the year. All while giving Love one more year to prepare for the transition.

I think the team played this right, Aaron raised hell for a while and eventually will come down to Earth and return to GB. I hope he really does play for us for the next few years at a high level.

Honestly, I could see something of a compromise of this sort happen. Perhaps agree to playing one more season, with the agreement that the Packers either release or trade Rodgers next offseason.

It would probably be the best for all involved parties.

I don't think that is possible, since it sounds like it isn't what Rodgers wants. He wants guarantees that the Packers can't just cut ties with him when they feel it is best for the team. Which he should have negotiated for before he signed the last deal, but he didn't.

Yes, the Packers could say "OK Aaron, we get your point, we screwed up, lets do one more year and THEN part ways". I just don't think Aaron would be the guy who does that. He wants control of his future. I stated this last week but will say it again. If he wants control, offer him a totally performance based contract. If he has another MVP season, he gets paid like one, if he doesn't, he gets paid based on his year. He then holds most of the cards.....play well....you get rewarded. I would never want to see a team handcuff itself with guarantees that probably puts it into cap hell for 5 years, especially for a 37 year old acting like this.

This is the ideal timeline

It's likely that he didn't anticipate the Packers using a 1st and a 4th round pick to move up in the draft to select his successor less than 2 years after agreeing to that new deal. Just a thought.
