@Dantes especially tries to help folks understand and see the prospects through GB tendencies...my thoughts and predictions are also a lot of times through those lenses - however thought some may enjoy a discussion of prospects that are really good or guys perhaps I (you) really like but know their chances of being a Packer are VERY VERY unlikely for whatever reason...
Here's a few that jump to my mind very quickly...
Ozzy Trapilo OT Boston College
...if you asked what is one offensive tackle I would LOVE Green Bay to break their traditional traits for it is Ozzy Trapilo - and to be fair with Hafley having seen him firsthand for years perhaps he can sway Gute of doing just that. The crazy thing is he essentially does fit EVERYTHING except height. Remember typical OL locked in traits include:
-300-325: He's 316 CHECK
-32+" arms: He's 33 inches CHECK
-Sub 4.80 in the shuttle: 4.70 CHECK
-Sub 7.80 in the three cone: 7.71 CHECK
-6'3"-6'6": He is 6'8"....DAMN....
-Solid RAS: He is 8.88 with FULL testing except vertical
Ozzy has that athleticism surprisingly for such a tall guy and has shown massive positional versatility as well starting out early on at LG some, then a full year at LT in 2022, before going two straight years as their RT with barely any missed games in that run of time.
While the trait of height makes a TON of sense from a GB perspective as we are constantly drafting athletic Tackles that can move inside...and having a giant inside doesn't help with passing lanes....however between what Trapilo has exhibited, his anchoring strength, his athleticism to mirror lead me to hoping and praying that Hafley perhaps bangs the drum hard for him. He's been firmly in my Top 100 for months now and has a 3rd round grade from me.
Maxwell Hairston CB Kentucky
Look, I'm very mixed on this kid and many love him but he simply isn't a normal GB candidate. Insanely gifted physically, can run with anyone you line him up across from...BUT he weighed in under 190 at combine - a weight threshold we NEVER waver from and he's had very little production in college (one stellar year in 2023) due to his 2024 season cut short and declaring despite that. So while his youth is attractive, his physical skill set is as well - his thinner frame and limited production (albeit injury related) likely means he isn't coming to GB - which is partially due to type but also due to I think we would have to pick him with our Day1 pick....Gute might come off such tight parameters Day2 but not Day1 I suspect. Now to be fair, days after the combine Hairston posted a photo claiming to be back over 190...so who knows. I kinda suspected he could be one we bring in for a Top 30 visit to see in person as he is borderline thresholds.
Jack Sawyer EDGE Ohio State
Look, from a mentality perspective and heart on the field...Jack is going to compete with anyone you mention in this year's draft. HOWEVER, we are stepping into the NFL - where the worst athletes on the field are still other worldly compared to common man. Jack simply has physical characteristics that are so limited I just don't see Gute gambling on him unless he falls to the third round...his arms are not even 32 inches long...for perspective on this at the Senior Bowl only ONE edge there didn't hit 32 inch arms (Collin Oliver) and only one other wasn't at least 32.5. Jack's arms are shorter than Jaylin Lane a WR that stands under 5'10". It's just such a massive outlier trait that it is VERY tough for me to get on board with using a first or second pick....BUT again I love what he does on the field. His football IQ is excellent, his energy level is contagious...simply put he's a football player....but I've seen far too many great football players that lack physical abilities fail or just turn into great deep depth or ST guys at the next level (don't get more immense value in these types but NOT for a high pick).
While I would consider a late second round on him just because of his tenacity, leadership, football IQ and he has been productive...I suspect Gute and Co. might have him completely off their boards due to massive physical flag.
Walter Nolen iDL Ole Miss
A guy I LOVE.....but I'm not betting we pick him Day1 unless he does testing for us....Gute has NEVER drafted a guy without public testing numbers (combine or pro day) and Nolen still hasn't....I have a top 20 grade on him...but I suspect he is not on our Day1 radar right now.
There are others but those three came to mind fastest.
