Go to Comment section to see my updated list - I've ironed out my first likely nearly done Top 100 and discovered some guys I'm very bullish on. Also suprisingly I've delved deeper into film and noticed some issues in Nohl's game I struggle with overlooking now. He's still a top 125 guy IMO but just misses my top 100 surprisingly now.
Every year as I refine my process more and more I find myself arguing (in my mind) around a few prospects that I just flat out see more in I guess than others. Now some of my "bullishness" is Packer need or types based, because as an example a man strong corner holds more value to a team which deploys man more often than a strong zone corner might.
Okay here we go...
Nohl Williams CB - California
He's listed at 6'1' 200lbs...but yet to have confirmed measurables and look forward to him hopefully sustaining that 6 foot area and 190+ because that means one of my favorite CBs fits that physical threshold GB seems to adhere to for corners. Nohl is an immensely physical CB and one that embraces contact more than most...three seasons ago he played in the box as a hybrid LB over 100 snaps so he is not unfamiliar with the need to hit. Highly productive 2024 season with 7 INTs and a passer rating when targeted of just 40.1 and as a corner having just 3 missed tackles with all the chances presented illustrates my first point. He is my second favorite man coverage capable corner that we have a realistic chance at drafting, his jamming technique is arguably one of the best and his footwork and hip movement are NFL caliber, although he does at times declare or bite with his hips on double moves and can be taken advantage of underneath on a rare occasion...however his burst and footwork does help overcome and make up distance lost typically rather fast and his sure tackling makes that pass completion given up to a 0 YAC situation at least. Here comes the shocker, if Gute called Nohl in the second round, even in a situation we end up with a pick inside of the 40th pick I'm not going to argue with it too much. I have a second round grade on Nohl locked in unless he tests absolutely terrible at the combine.
Azareye'h Thomas CB - Florida State
He confirmed physical profile meets GB standards as he came in over 6 foot and 191 pounds at senior bowl. I expect he is swift but not blazing fast at the combine but his agility is where I'm honed in on....his film leads me left hopeful he is the athlete I hope he is. His length and press man approach is where he excels, that Richard Sherman type mentality and truthfully if honest his footwork is not as crisp as Nohl's to me but that length and body control on jump balls is impeccable. His long speed worries me a little bit but there is a ton to like in Az...and again I'm a Top 50 type rating for me just like Nohl....and get it if Gute would call his name in the first round even as his ceiling is special.
Jalen Royals WR - Utah State
I'm fully aware this isn't going to happen but let me just say it, I'm fully on board with Gute making us have a second First Rounder from Utah State. Yes, I said that. Jalen Royals is built like Deebo Samuels, BUT WILL run in the 4.3s at most...his camp has him clocked under 4.3 multiple times. I suspect we see that 4.35 give or take range. His route tree is better than many give credit to, as I've watch him win in a variety of different ways and doesn't rely as heavily on his speed as you would think UNTIL he has the ball in his hands. What I'm extremely curious of is what his ten yard split is, I feel it is going to be insane...think Alec Pierce's 1.46 type level. Is he a true first round prospect.....eh....I have him sitting at 39th on my board...but Lordy I think he can be insanely special and differ from many who have him in that 50-80 range.
Jason Marshal Jr CB Florida
I don't get this one. Consensus board has him in the 200s....he checks every box for GB, size (6ft 201lbs), length (30.5 arms), high level competition with production. I see him as a victim of just a bad team...but to be fair he needs to get his hands on the ball more and convert turnover chances. He is an odd CB...make the call for man coverage and Jason almost is a different person - that blinder approach to a play where the man infront of him is his only concern really is where he excels. Now call zone coverage and ask him to diagnose and adapt to the play as it unfolds he becomes a coin flip...looking amazing sometimes and other times lost. I personally feel there is so much room for improvement and refinement to where he continually does what he proves he can do sometimes more often. While some have him in the 6th or later (some UDFA) I'm firmly in that 4th round grade type.
Ty Robinson iDL Nebraska
This guy is consensus rated over 200, PFF agrees...and so do many other sites. They are nuts. Robinson is a borderline Top 100 prospect and has no business being that disrespected. Versatile is the overused word for many, but he is one in this class that would push towards the top of my mind if I heard the word used. Over the last three years he's been deployed at the A Gap 237 times, B Gap 801 times, Over the tackle 496 times and outisde tackle 193 times just the past two seasons. He is listed at 310lbs but it is a lean rocked 310 spread on his 6'6' frame (again claimed, curious what he measures at). He won't be playing much A Gap snaps except in rare sub packages I predict, but in a Hafley system he could easily find himself setting the edge and then plugging the B Gap next snap and excel at either. He wins with his first step quickness and incredibly strong and technical hands. His anchoring ability is the only thing he is working on, that lower body strength grew a LOT from 2023 to 2024 and I suspect it will continue more. I'm a 3rd round grade on the kid.
Time doesn't allow me to go further but Jackson Slater OL from Sac State is a second round kid - write it down.
Ricky White WR from UNLV deserves late third round consideration.
Teddye Buchanan from Cal is a LB I really want and I have a fifth on him while most say UDFA
