Eighth Possession:
I'm not sure if that was a timing route, or Taylor just ran the wrong route. Taylor and Williams, if nothing else might provide us an extra Draft Pick if any team loses a RB in the preseason.

Eighth Defense:
Nice hit on the QB by Heflin to effectively knock out the momentum of the offense. Hollman finally makes it on to the field....he looked good in coverage on the one play, staying with his man with a chance to make a play on the ball.

Ninth Possession:
Not sure why Benkert didn't take off and run on that 3rd down. Williams should have caught it anyway but he could have escorted him for a good 10-12 yards had Benkert just tucked it and ran. Rodgers doesn't seem elusive, nice to see him finally get a ball downfield for a change. Taylor's additional size over Williams I believe gives him the edge on pushing the pile and getting small gains when they need them.

Ninth Defense:
Good team effort. Secondary seemed to keep everything in front of them. No superlatives necessarily.

Tenth Possession:
Throw away that OL group.

Tenth Defense:
It appears we might have the talent edge now with the opposing offense.

So ... this game's post analysis

QBs - I won't get down on Benkert because despite a few mistakes there, he can be pretty decisive and isn't afraid to gun it. But let's put to bed the notion he's going to upend Jordan Love, because I definitely say hell no there.

WRs - man as loaded as we are and only so much room, hard to argue against Malik Taylor being given a spot. Guy was catching just about everything today. Rodgers still looking so so, and the rest were a little meh.

TEs - Sternberger atoned for an earlier drop with that TD

Defense - liked what I saw from Slaton, Martin and a few others. We were letting some TEs run loose in the secondary early on though.

Special Teams still looking crappy.

All in all we were running the ball better tonight.

I'm not happy with Benkert not being able to drop back without falling on his ***. You can't blame TWO on the O-Line one or both has to be the QBs fault.

I really hope Barry is playing the most basic defense, because so far none of the corners have really challenged any wrs. Most of the dbs playing are scrubs..but..jeez..wide open every time.

Yeah I'm split on how to react to what I've seen from Barry's defense in the preseason. On the one hand, these aren't our starters out there, and it's not likely we're seeing all the looks yet that we're going to be giving once the regular season starts. On the other hand ... you just feel like you should still see better than some of the things we saw out there these last two games.

Now Barry is new and is going to do a number of things different than Pettine, and it might take a few weeks for it to all come together. Plus with our offense usually being the ones setting the pace in games, there is a good chance they might give our defense room to be aggressive. Hopefully come regular season we do in fact see the kind of defense we were hoping for.

The Packers can't hire a good ST coach. What we have now is a another suck bag coach.

Yeah this is why despite it being preseason I just don't feel like giving ST a pass. Very little evidence that anything is changing there, and the people running things upstairs--yeah that's right Murphy I'm pointing the finger at you--just refuse to go out and try to bring in a reliable ST guru. Just keep on hiring these cheapos.

The special teams units are running the backups too. Unless y’all wanna get real specific and detailed on coverage schemes or blocking schemes (and none of you can), then it’s foolish to judge based on results in a preseason game when the regulars aren’t playing. Talent matters, and the talent ain’t playing.

Barry's pretty strapped, we aren't giving him near enough talent out there to do much. It's all bubble guys and they don't want to show their scheme.

Yeah, but when was the last time we had an elite special teams unit in the regular season?

As mentioned here, no top 10 unit since 2007

Now, fair enough that you can't quite fairly grade a ST unit with scrubs playing any more than you could an offense or defense. But I can't honestly say I'm getting good vibes from things I'm seeing out there, and while Drayton says he's got a plan to turn this unit around, I'll only believe it when I see it.

Why can't we EVER hire someone who knows what they're doing on special teams? Like, poach an assistant from an elite unit for once. And why does Scott look like someone stole his lunch every time he goes out to punt?

ST coverage generally sucks.
On a bright note, I liked what I saw from Begelton at PR. I’d feel totally comfortable with him back there. He’s the best I’ve seen weaving through traffic since Ervin.

Khylin Hill his is playing more like you’d expect from a dynamic 4th round rookie RB. You can feel he wants this job. Khylin has a natural nose for the goal line and he’s very similar to Jamaal. I like his thick bodied, low Center of gravity and quick decision making.

I’ll admit I wasn’t a Malik Taylor fan until seeing him back to back games. That kid is dynamic. He looks like a cross between Allen Lazard and James Jones. Really great hands and uses his body well to box defenders and fight for the catch. Impressive come back to the ball, was a poor man’s Jordy tonight.

Ty Summers just looks semi-lost out there. I’d almost not use a roster spot. He needs to go PS until he proves he wants that job.

Tederall Slayton was a 2 block eating machine. When he’s left 1-1 it’s just a matter of time. He may not be fast, but he’s powerful and quick short range and can be disruptive inside if not accounted for.

I Love Barnes downhill play style. He’ll have to refine a bit to make sure he doesn’t overcommit on play fakes, but I’ll take that style over this backpedaling approach we used to teach our LBs.

Please don’t throw 1 more slow developing play to Sternberger 1 yard behind the LOS, I swear I could cover him and trip him up. He excels running up the seam or in the end zone. That’s more a Lazard type route there, Stern is a smidge short on YAC athleticism

I would add Jack Heflin's performance through 2 games to the plus side. Dude is making plays that no Defensive Lineman should be making.
