Here’s the bottom line for me with Belton.

The Packers were not in desperation mode on the OL. Prior to this selection, they had starters slated for every spot, plus a 6th guy pressing for a role.

So while it was earlier than projected, I don’t think there’s basis to say that reached down their board for need. It’s clear from the pre-draft process that they really liked him and it just remains to be seen if they were right.

Belton 6'6" 336, and has a 29.5" vertical jump.... That shows left tackle athletic ability.... I think. The numbers say right tackle or worst case a guard. But I think with a few years of development, he could be a very good LT..

Would've liked to see his bench reps. But scouts saying he is a mauler, kind of answers the concerns.

So far I like all 3 of our picks.

One thing I think we can say with a high degree of confidence tonight.... going forward, if and when we lose games, it's probably very unlikely that it will be because our offensive line got bullied and manhandled at the line of scrimmage.

Gutekunst has made it clear what sort of O-line he wants Green Bay to have, and I think his vision for that line is dead on the money. And it's probably fair to say (from his draft patterns the last 2 days) that he's concluded that the play in the trenches is fundamental to a championship team - and that the key to our offense is a dominant, imposing offensive line.

I like that philosophy.

Hmm.... guy seems a little big to play cornerback....
funny. He’s a little Big…Golden is a little Small. Talk about picking outside the box. :whistling:

Seriously though I’m happy. Can never have too many good OL. We’ve all seen what happens when that playoff team succumbs to a couple late season injuries.

On
The insufferable social media crowd out in full force about Belton. Primarily because some sheet has him listed as a 3rd rounder.
I know right? if there’s one position that it’s kinda hard to disagree with the Packers on its OL. Our OL record stands as our witness.

My theory on Belton is twofold:

First, I am guessing he played too heavy for the Wolfpack and so at the Sr Bowl, with his weight more under control, he showed a lot better twitch in pass pro. Then he was lighter yet at the combine and worked out really well.

This is probably why he took 18 top 30 visits— to figure out the person and whether he can be trusted to stay in shape.

Secondly, I think teams finally got to see him at guard and got excited about his versatility. He played nothing but LT at NCSU.

I love the pick. The Packers are getting surly and strong on the OL. Time to run the ball. Purist football.

I hope you are right Dantes. I hadn't realized he wasn't high up on the lists.

Belton is a three-year starting left tackle who had a strong Senior Bowl. He's a massive mauler with the strength to move defenders off the ball, and he blocks relentlessly until the whistle in the run game. Belton also has some upside as a pass blocker because he's quick enough to meet speed rushers and strong enough to anchor if his feet are set. He looks to help on the line and can annihilate defenders with a powerful punch when no one comes to him. -- Steve Muench
So do we put Bahktiari out of our memory? Now he can open up a sports bar on Holmgren Way.
