Packers Trade Candidates

Who might the Packers traded away this off-season? The most likely answer is "no one," but I've been thinking about who is most probable out of an improbable bunch.

1. Romeo Doubs: Over the next two seasons, the top four WR's on the Packers' roster will hit free agency. They certainly won't extend all of them (nor should they) and they might even look to move a guy early in order to recoup some value, especially if they plan to add at WR. Doubs would be the likeliest candidate for a few reasons. 1- he's entering a contract season and the other guy in that boat is hurt. 2- there were clearly some problems in 2024 that make extension very unlikely. 3- he has been solidly productive, with 43 yds/game and 0.4 TD/game over the past two seasons, which extrapolates to a 700/7 season. At 24, it's not difficult to see a team valuing him as a WR2 or WR3 and perhaps they would trade a conditional mid round pick that can become a day 2 selection based on certain incentives.

2. Malik Willis: Willis is only 25 years old (many rookies are 25 any more) and he showed a lot of progress in 2024. He's entering a contract season and I can imagine a team with a QB problem and no obvious solution (e.g. the Steelers who pick too low) acquiring Willis as part of a plan to take multiple dips at the position this off-season. I wouldn't part with him for anything less than a day 2 pick, given the value of backup QB's.

3. Kingsley Enagbare: Enagbare is entering a contract year and has probably fallen behind Cox in terms of effectiveness. If they Packers add a DE in free agency or in the draft, they would have five guys who deserve some degree of playing time. That's a level of depth that they could choose to trade from if they return is right.

4. Rasheed Walker: This move would be contingent on an internal view that Morgan is best off playing left tackle. I have no idea if the FO sees Morgan that way, but if that's the plan then it's somewhat feasible that they would move Walker a year before he hits free agency. Walker is a viable starter at tackle without being an upper echelon guy. I would want at least a 4th for him.

5. Sean Rhyan: If the Packers see Morgan as a guard, not a tackle, then it could be Rhyan that they look to move a year early.

I don't understand why Gute would consider trading ANY of these players?
- With Watson probably out most, if not all, of '25 Doubs is a low cost ($3.5mil) WR2. The corps is serviceable with Reed, Doubs, Wicks + day 2 rookie WR draftee.
- Love missed 2 full games (& 2 partial games) to injury in '24 & Willis kept the team competitive & winning. At only $1.4mil he's a great, dirt cheap, backup.
- Enegbare may be the only "maybe" player to trade away, but he's serviceable & at only $3.385mil cheap depth.
- Walker held up well at LT, especially for a 2nd year starting 7th round draft pick. PFF Ranked 44 out of 141 OT's in '24. At $3.345mil EXTREMELY cheap for a starting LT, still ascending.
- Rhyan was PFF Ranked 67th out of 135 OG's, so not great. Until Morgan can prove he can stay healthy AND play better than 50% of OG's in the league the starting job is Rhyan's to lose. Keep in mind Meyers is a FA so the interior OL may be significantly changing without trading away Sean.

The concept the thread is proposing isn’t an argument for trading these players, but if Gute were to use trades to better his team in his opinion or get a return now for this April (or next) rather than 2027 draft through compensatory method these would make the most sense.

Dantes hit every single one I think you would have to list that would both make sense from GB side but also opposing team attraction.

On Doubs…everyone knows I love the dude.

BUT if that whole time period issue has credence and he is unhappy it would make sense to move him. IF Gute is thinking of bringing in a veteran or drafting a top 100 pick to reset the room a touch with a pick.

Not arguing for it but imagine Jets cut Adams and we bring him in.

Trade Doubs and draft a guy say Bech or Higgins.

You’re WR room has a clear alpha, a massively dynamic guy that in created touches is deadly in Reed, a separation master in Wicks learning from Adams and you have Heath, draftee and Melton rounding out your six guys….Watson returns likely pushes Melton or Heath down to PS if clears.

I love Doubs approach, his big catch ability and the young man’s story…BUT if he is truly unhappy it is best to part ways now IMO than later. I always would rather have a pick now than wait for compensatory multiple years later…and it’s a respect thing to Doubs.

I think a "luxury" like Davante (or proven #1 vet) is one GB can't afford. With $15mil carryover GB has $44mil cap available for '25. $10mil -ish for draft picks leaves $34mil remaining. Needs: starting OC, CB, Kicker; starting caliber WR 1/2, DT, Edge; quality (future starter) IOL, OT, CB, DE, TE, S, etc. A lot of areas to increase talent level, decent but not a ton of cap space.

Appreciate Dantes starting the conversation, just don't think current talent level allows for trading away starters (high end backups) hoping to get better players.

That's all they need? New starters or starter quality at every position? ;)

With the last game on everyone's mind, I don't see how trading any offensive lineman should be a consideration. Can see the logic on Doubs, but with 2 concussions I'm not sure if I'm an opposing GM that I'm offering much. Even if healthy I'm not sure the return would equal the value that he brings to the table for the Packers.

Seems the most likely candidate to be traded that was left out is Alexander, but once again seems like selling low given injury concerns, but if that relationship is broken then not sure what else they can do.

Why might the relationship be broken? I have not seen anything outside of a couple minor transgressions. Mainly he seems like a happy guy

Over the past two and a half seasons there have been times of awkward and quiet turmoil between GB and Jaire...it always seems to go away and all is good.....he's been suspended, absolute oddity in health reports (full participant and then no go and then FP and then he hints at being good), he has said things that have caused issues - granted at times he's just being Jaire (he is an entertaining character for sure) and then to end the year his disgruntled quick blurb after refusing to talk that he doesn't know if he's even going to be here next year....

While Jaire is for sure a happy go lucky type dude, it has been anything but sunshine and roses with him of late...and it will be interesting to see what happens with him this offseason...I could see a cut, trade, restructure or nothing and not be shocked by any of those decisions.

I'd be the first to say some of the proposed names would gut punch me and part of me wouldn't like it happening but if Gute wants to get aggressive and they have a sense of the team and future direction, there is a lot to be said making moves now rather than later.

I don't believe Dantes created this thread as a argument for them, but merely outlining the logic guys should trading be part of the offseason plans.

It's no different than anyone discussing draft prospects.

Well I think that Jaire is the most likely player to get traded. We don't know what is going on, at least i don't, but it sure appears that there is still some conflict between Jaire and the coaches. I hope I am wrong or I hope things get patched up and he stays. He can play at such a high level and will be difficult to replace.

As far as the list goes, everyone has a price. I could see where a team really likes what Willis did for the Packers and offers enough to interest Gute. But I doubt we trade any OL. You need quality depth as I dont know if we have ever had 5 guys play every snap in a season.

If the Packers have plans to make a corresponding move that makes a player expendable, it could be smart to move a guy a year early and get something in return.

Me personally, I wouldn’t want to trade any of the top offensive linemen. However, if they plan to add something significant at WR, DE, or QB, I can see the wisdom in the other moves.

Like tynimiller referenced, when a player's comments out the door at the end of the season are that they don't have anything good to say and they don't know if they will be back, not a great leap to infer that there is an issue with the relationship.

I think you guys are playing our home team of reporters. If I were him; I would not know if I'd be back either. He could get traded or he just might never heal enough. Some things are not in his control. If I was reading thus forum and not a Packer fan I would think there is actually something. Which I don't think there is. Man, a lot of gossip.
