I care. I'm not sure that he was worse than Hundley at this game. We all know that Hundley can't produce. The coaching staff thought that he could. Frankly, I'm not quite sure that I trust the coaching staff's evaluations at the backup QB position. I'm still mad that they didn't start Callahan against Detroit at the end of last season, so that we knew if we needed one or two new backup QBs. I would have dropped Hundley and then let Kizer, Callahan, and Boyle compete for the job. I have a feeling that Kizer will beat out Hundley in camp regardless so we will cut Hundley during roster cutdowns. I see no point in stringing him along until then. He's an old ham sandwich.

This, while I still am mostly in McCarthy's corner, he's done 2 things while here that I got big beefs with. The first is that he kept Dom Capers around too long, and the second is playing favorites with his backup QBs and giving some a carte blanche while others get almost no rope.

I realize Callahan was not going to be here for the long-term, but I agree it was stupid not to even see what he could do when we had nothing to lose. And the one series he did get in he looked way better than anything Hundley had shown.

I certainly hope Kizer or even Boyle bury that cancer, but yeah I think Hundley is so bad he shouldn't even be allowed to enter the QB competition. If Lombardi or Holmgren were still coach, he'd have been dropped by the side of the road by now.

I will take a 28 year old with a better skill than a 24 year old Callahan.

Hill is 27 BTW and Callahan turns 25 in a month and 3 days. ;)

He will be 28 to start the season.

But no one, including the Packers (or me), chose Callahan over Hill. They cut both of them. Hill just got picked up to an active roster.

I’m just surprised at how many fans were caught off guard that Green Bay cut a 27 year old, injury prone rookie QB who is more runner than passer. It seemed like hindsight analysis to me once Rodgers got hurt.

He was an athletic guy, no doubt. And most of his action came against depth guys and camp cuts. There's a big difference between running an NFL offense against a scheming defense and using athletic ability to beat camp cuts and depth guys. They were both cut. One was able to be signed to PS, the other was not available for that

Not sure how anyone can make that determination when he got to play all of about 7 snaps in garbage time.
Probably the same way people seem to think he was destined to lead this team based on some preseason play going on 3 years ago, despite a very lackluster preseason showing last year and not being able to stick on an NFL roster even after 3 different teams giving him a shot since then.

Rather have seen them keep Callahan and let Hundley go after last year's debauchle.
I'm pretty sure that Captain is correct and despite his looking pretty raw and unpolished last year, Hundley is better than Callahan. While Callahan looked ok his first preseason (2016) he looked pretty lost last preseason. Taysom Hill would have been the better QB to keep of him and Callahan, but the Packers rolled the dice and put both on waivers and the Saints snatched Hill up before the Packers could put him on the PS, which it sounds like what they wanted to do.

Maybe I'm over valuing Callahan cause Hundley grossly under-performed but just based on what I saw, Hundley is the worst QB in the league.

You're definitely overvaluing Callahan. It's tough to argue that Hundley performed at an atricous level last season though.
