And now Gute says they could have lived without drafting a TE.

I think that's true. For this year I don't think TE was a critical need but since it takes TEs a bit longer to develop I'm much happier that we will have a 2nd year man taking over for Graham next year rather than looking for a fresh replacement.

On the other hand Vernon Davis will be a FA after this season.

This pick makes me think Lafleur might favor the McVay branch of the tree over the Shanahan branch. Rams use a ton of sift blocking and create easier block angles with misdirection and formation, which is perfect for Jace.

If we were so sold on getting a TE in this draft, then Graham should have only been signed to a 1-year deal, not a 3-year deal.

Most tight ends are not ready to have full time starting roles as rookies. Sternberger isn't. It works out better to have Graham for one more season before the kid is asked to take over. Graham is almost certainly going to be cut after year 2 of his deal.

What's wild is that I heard a Kelce comparison more than once
Sorry but not even a close comparison, both have veryvery diffe test measurements... If anything Jace Sternberger's comp is Jace Amaro. Lol.

Not a fan of this pick. But hope Jace proves me wrong.

Sternberger is a much, much better route runner than Amaro ever was. And his play speed is better than what he ran at the combine
