Had a buddy pose the question this morning what to you would a perfect draft for the Packers look like?

This is about as close as I can envision personally...little bit of my personal opinion (I am always looking for edge guys) and GB tendencies....ALSO this is assuming as we have to right now Jaire is here in 2025.

1.23 Traded away to Browns. We send 1.23 and 6.198 for 2.33 / 3.67 and a 2026 6th rounder

2.33 We start off Day2 with a splash. Just an insane amount of starters/contributors have expiring contracts after this year...one might argue this pick likely saves us $12-$20M a year deal with someone in the offseason. Green Bay sees if they can hit yet again in the second round with a guy that IMO at least can absolutely become a WR1 in the NFL - Jayden Higgins WR Iowa State. This signing likely means not having to resign at least one of Doubs or Watson.

*Full disclosure I love Higgins but picking him would make me INCREDIBLY sad. I really admire and love Doubs and personally would see the addition of Higgins as the beginning of the end of Doubs in GB...whether this year through trade or not resigning in the off season. Higgins though is just such a GB guy and the future looms heavy I think on this draft far more than the present (Higgins will help now too though).

2.54 Crazy athletic, prototypical edge size/length but what I love despite not being a refined pass rusher (despite 15 sacks this past season) is his play recognition and destruction against the run. Welcome to Green Bay JT Tuimoloau, you had no business IMO being there at 54 but this edge class is so deep there is going to be a guy or two honestly that hits the third round that is excellent IMO. This pick saves us having to resign Enagbare in all likelihood.

3.67 - Hafley saw him for years at BC block everything he would toss at him in practice....I screamed at Gute to come off the height trait as well (everything else he is prototypical OL). Ozzy Trapilo OT from Boston College instantly IMO makes Walker able to walk in the off season - we could keep him for a year and let Ozzy compete or even trade him...Morgan instantly can make Rhyan able to walk after season too focusing on being the starting RG. With one pick we could save a TON in off season contracts to Walker and/or Rhyan potentially being needed.

3.87 - Slaton is gone, and while I think we see Clark play a lot more 1T and we work out a one year extension rather than 5th year option with Wyatt...replacing Slaton is still something pressing and Clark isn't going to be here forever. Jamaree Caldwell DL Oregon has that 1T ability out the gate, but enough to his game that there really could be some interior pressure situationally too making him at times a three down guy for a team (22 pressures in 2024).

4.124 - SHOCKER....Green Bay calls a name that instantly will send TONS of fans into chaos because they'll hate it....they'll scream we don't need it....BUT Gute learned last year the importance of having a "good enough" backup...and a guy who has won tons of big games, can beat teams with his legs and a locker room leader is sitting there. Riley Leonard QB Notre Dame...come learn behind one of the hopeful futures of the league and potentially Willis as well for one year. His intermediate and short passes have enough zip to them, his touch is still something he's working through but this kid is DEADLY outside the pocket and would have some design run ability in his bag better than most. Insurance to the uncertain future of Malik makes this pick make a lot of sense.

SHOCKER #2 OF THE DRAFT
The New York Giants have traded for Malik Willis comes across the bottom of the screen and Green Bay is on the clock at Pick #154....but that isn't the only pick GB receives...Green Bay gets 5.154 and a conditional (no lower than) 2026 4th rounder (potentially to become a 2nd if Malik starts over 65% of the 2025 season or 3rd if over half). Essentially the top shelf if GB does nothing with Malik would be a 3rd round compensatory depending on what a team pays him in the offseason...but that pick wouldn't hit till 2027 draft. Gute gets a 5th now, and at worst a 4th next season.....with not many guys signed past 2025, tons of roster decisions coming - he gets essentially the max value of a 3rd potentially between 2025 and 2026 drafts.

5.154 - With many of the obvious issues plugged many envision this potentially being a CB...but not liking the board has Gute look to an athletic profile that could offer a diverse impact to helping the offense in both the run and pass game. Elite hands is something you will hear used to describe him despite not having a ton of juice/speed and his route tree is limited...but he is a very willing blocker and once you do get his hands on the ball his YAC value is well above average for his position. His size profile is IMPRESSIVE and potential is there for something special to grow...dude is 6'5' 243 has hands closer to 11 inches than he does 10 and 34 inch arms...a 9.37 RAS with elite/great explosion and agility grades Thomas Fidone TE from Nebraska instantly provides some ST play, puts Ben Sims on notice and could help make the future decision post 2026 when likely either Musgrave (more likely) or Kraft goes away.

5.159 - According to Tyni's board (worth about .02 cents) this would be a massive steal, but consensus and PFF boards all disagree with me about this guy and this is inline with his profile. Quay's future is up in the air, McDuffie is a solid depth guy but I want an athletic profiled off ball backer to ease the pain if we lose an underachieving IMO Quay (albeit much better last year IMO) after the 2025 season. Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma is the pick and is everything I love about an off ball backer - which to be fair from a traits perspective is a repeat of Quay.

7.237 - Bilhal Kone CB from Western Michigan is the pick here. With Carrington continuing to get better each year, Jaire still here, Nixon (to some of you) being a decent outside corner, Hobbs signing and King still here CB isn't as pressing as many think or thought (me). Kone is a very athletic profile CB that fits the GB mold at 6'1" 190lbs and a 7.7 RAS there is a lot to like out of the smaller corner. I love his journey from Iowa Community college to Indiana State and then finally at Western Michigan. Strengths are his frame, length, hip fluidity and press man coverage. He needs to get better with his eye discipline in both ability to feel man and watch ball but once ball is in flight he lost some TOs to wondering eyes too soon. His tackling like many CBs needs to be better and he has the frame to hit so needs to use it. Late round flyer to compete with King and bottom of the room for 2025 and is hopefully ready to push for more in 2026.

7.250 - Dalton Cooper OT from OSU is a late round tackle prospect with the build, length and athletic testing to likely slide inside IMO with his three cone being a touch higher but rest of his movement skills there, his strength his solid and I think sliding to guard he could start for many teams by his second year.

Higgens at 33 would be a great move. I would love that.

An edge at #54 makes a lot of sense. I’d like a different skillset than what Tuimoloau offers.

I like Trapilo. I don’t think they would do it though. Did you see that LaFleur just said that Morgan will compete at left tackle?

Caldwell would be really nice. I think he could be getting slept on.

I wouldn’t blink at a QB in round 4 but I can’t imagine it would be Riley. His passing is just way too limited.

If we go QB it is going to be one of these four I predict: Leonard / Rourke / Henigan / Cook

Shough IF he drops fits Packer types too.

I fully understand the different skillset take on JT and I did just hear word that Morgan is going to be given first chance to win LT is how my contact put it now that MLF put that out I texted him to see how much validity he's heard in that. With that knowledge drafting a guy with the height of ONLY being a tackle makes less sense I'd admit, but I would still embrace a Morgan starting guard role and deem his pick well worth it if he gave us high level guard play. BUT if that happens and we stay OL there you could change Trapilo to a Jonah Savaiinaea or Jackson Slater type pick - Jonah is that GB drafted tackle to slide in type and Slater is built like a tackle but has played guard.

If I was going for an ideal scenario right now with just the picks they have and no trades, I would hope for something like this:

1. Derrick Harmon, DT, OR
2. Tre Harris, WR, MISS
3. Oluwafemi Oladejo, DE, UCLA
4. Nohl Williams, CB, CAL
5. Caleb Rogers, OL, TTU
6. Chimere ****, WR, FLA
7. Cam Horsley, DT, BC
7. Brady Cook, QB, MIZZ

It makes me happy to see someone else know Horsley - high floor that is connected to its ceiling but a guy I think can play a role for sure. Tre in the second would cause soeme to struggle but I get it and Olu is a different edge type for sure, but that athletic and character profile fits Green Bay to a "T"

Interesting. I like the trade back out of round 1 for more picks.

Trading Willis is risky. I'd feel better if they could add someone better than Leonard. Actually, I'd feel better if they just keep Willis. I'm not overly concerned that Love is an injury risk, but stuff happens. If this is a team with a legit shot at a SB run, better to keep Willis for insurance.

I really like Higgins. 6'4" and 215 lbs. He'll bulk up in the NFL a bit.

Really hope Tuimoloau is there at #54.

Keeping JA is becoming a more popular idea around here. Fans are too emotional when it comes to JA, mostly pissed that a guy who costs so much plays so little. But that's backward looking. He should be healthy after the knee surgery. And when healthy, he's a shutdown corner. So yeah, Gluten keeps him.

Interesting. I like the trade back out f round 1 for more picks.

I don't think they trade Willis this season. He's at least shown some ability to be a starter in the NFL, and those guys are worth a lot more than a conditional 4th round pick (although it's unlikely they could get more right now).

I understand the disagreement on Willis, but just for clarity the trade wasn't for just a conditional 4th, but a 5th this year and worst case 4th in 2026.

If we don't trade him, he is getting us back at maximum a 3rd in 2027 draft.

Or we pay him and keep him as our backup QB. That's the most ideal scenario of all.

You don't pay a starter TOP money and PAY top back up money which it would take to keep Willis. Fiscally unsound approach IMO

FTR it has nothing to do with not thinking Willis is good - I do think he will be a starter for a team someday...but you simply don't pay top of market type deal and also pay a serious chunk for a back up too.

Correct your suggestion netted the Packers 3 draft picks, one as high as a #2. And it's not unreasonable to see that #2 happening. Wilson is just about outta gas. That makes it a tough choice. My guess is that Gluten would take it if the
Giants offered it.

And while I still like keeping Willis, it would be a solid trade.

Yeah if a backup QB is that close to being a starter, someone is gonna want him and pay for him - sooner rather than later. I don't know when Willis' current contract ends - sounds like after this season. But the Packers can't pay Love AND Willis top dollar. Just doesn't work.

So it takes that trade you suggested with the Giants all the more enticing. The cost of keeping Willis this year is to lose him to FA next year. I think. Not good.

Apologies I think you're still confused, we only got two draft picks not three.

A fifth this year in this draft.
A pick in the 2026 draft which cannot be lower than a fourth.

The mention of the 2027 pick is what will happen if we do nothing and keep him this year and lose him no doubt in FA - that pick could not exceed a 3rd as those are the highest compensatory picks handed out.

Apologies if I didn't explain it well.

On a sidenote. I think there’s a strategic advantage to picking first in any Day. As much as I don’t like moving rounds, I’d consider it if the trade value was there.
You get plenty of time to survey the field and likely you still get a Top 20-25 selection if you go BAP BPA whatever.

We missed on King at 33, but picking first in any day it’s still a formidable selection as teams often go needs based and a few great players slip n slide. I like the Top 50 area in this class. I’d pull a 2018 back n forth and package up and pick at 33, 51, 54 ish. Those are areas I think we can get results in 2025. DL, WR, CB

I think we're going to start collecting quite a few comp picks, starting in 27.

In truth there is a very good chance of this UNLESS in season trades happen. For anyone reading and wondering why...here are the guys that legit could get us comp picks after this year (in the 2027 draft):

Rasheed Walker - if we draft a LT or Morgan beats him he is gone.
Sean Rhyan - likely we let walk like Runyan did
Christian Watson - I still think we may do a courtesy one year extension with him - good for both sides...but he could be gone
Romeo Doubs - Unless we don't draft anyone this year that can compete, Doubs is out sadly likely.
Quay Walker - If he walks he will be a starter in the league still so decent contract = decent comp pick
Devonte Wyatt - I sense similar to above, I think 2025 is going to be a really good year out of him
Zach Tom - I suspect we pay him but if we didn't, he would likely get us a third round compensatory pick - he's getting top5 RT money worst case
Kingsley Enagbare - He'll get EDGE3 type money now...if he plays really well he could get more.
Malik Willis - even just a solid preseason and he will confirm to be a QB flyer type deal...if he wins a game or two in times of need in season he could get a starter level salary (albeit a short one years wise I bet) and net us a high compensatory pick.

I think there's an excellent chance we'll get the full allotment of 4 picks in 28, and it would probably take a lot of trades in order to keep us from getting all 4.

It gets even better in 29; we currently have 14 players whose contracts run out at the end of 27 - at least 8 of whom are starters or solid rotational players, and 2 more of whom are entering their 2nd year this season and may be solid players by 26 (Hopper and Williams).

  1. Rashan Gary (DE)
  2. Xavier McKinney (S)
  3. Kenny Clark (DT)
  4. Josh Jacobs (RB)
  5. Brandon McManus (K)
  6. Lukas Van Ness (DE)
  7. Edgerrin Cooper (ILB)
  8. Javon Bullard (S)
  9. Marshawn Lloyd (RB)
  10. Ty'Ron Hopper (OLB)
  11. Evan Williams (S)
  12. Jacob Monk (C)
  13. Kitan Oladapo (S)
  14. Travis Glover (LT)

The future looks quite bright. May be a lot more years where Gute has 10 or more picks. And if he continues to draft well, the process just keeps going on and on.

  3. Kenny Clark (DT)
  4. Josh Jacobs (RB)
  5. Brandon McManus (K)
  6. Lukas Van Ness (DE)
  7. Edgerrin Cooper (ILB)
  8. Javon Bullard (S)
  9. Marshawn Lloyd (RB)
  10. Ty'Ron Hopper (OLB)
  11. Evan Williams (S)
  12. Jacob Monk (C)
  13. Kitan Oladapo (S)
  14. Travis Glover (LT)

The future looks quite bright. May be a lot more years where Gute has 10 or more picks. And if he continues to draft well, the process just keeps going on and on.

Not to be a Debbie downer but Clark is likely getting released if I had to bet or extended - a straight play out with his structure is low likely.

You’re not wrong though

Apologies I think you're still confused, we only got two draft picks not three.

A fifth this year in this draft.
A pick in the 2026 draft which cannot be lower than a fourth.

The mention of the 2027 pick is what will happen if we do nothing and keep him this year and lose him no doubt in FA - that pick could not exceed a 3rd as those are the highest compensatory picks handed out.

Apologies if I didn't explain it well.
Gotcha, and thanks for the clarification. Well, I'm tending to go along with your suggestion - get a 5th rd this year and a 4th (at least) next year. I don't think that trade will happen because I think the organization values Willis too much until they get a better look at Love. (I know, it's been four years and they just gave him a ton of money. Stranger things have happened.)

Either way, it's fun to think of the possibilities.

That Compensatory formula puts alot of weight on playing time and compensation. At the QB position in particular, he’d be one of the higher paid FA in the event another team gives him an opportunity to start. I could foresee Malik easily getting a 4th with solid potential of a 3rd Rounder. The best part is we’ve got a solid backup option for a full season at peanuts $$.

74% completion % last year on good sample 40/54 pass attempts.
3 TD’s 0 INT 550 yards an a flat out impressive 10.2 per attempt. Add another stellar 6.9 yards per attempt rushing and another TuD. If he sustains anywhere close to that he be looking at legit QB $$.

In truth you execute a Willis trade rather than compensator for two main reasons and IMO only if one thing happens…

#1 we have an incredibly low count of people signed beyond 2025 with an incredible amount of folks in final contract years…jumping on that now could help in massive ways both from personnel but fiscally too. Holding onto Willis and hoping he never even has to play only to have to let him walk due to smart fiscal reasons doesn’t get you anything until 2027.

#2 You’re likely to get more now than if you wait…even two fifths now could be argued as more because there is no guarantee we see that third round compensatory pick…we’ve seen some lightning in bottle successes not net folks big pay days.

IF you do this though IMO it is only after you’ve added a QB to the room you believe could be a decent to above average backup option…if Tyler Shough falls and we pick him you instantly likely are vastly more willing to trade Malik either in the draft or before deadline potentially.

Fact is it is RARE a team wins a SB with a backup in…the Foles story is SPECIAL for a reason. GB’s main and biggest chance is with Love behind center…I’m gonna do everything I can to build a team that is best suited around him not behind him at this stage in his career.

We can find his replacement years down the road and let him become a NY Jet then soon after…

Another scenario is a player for player trade. Someone who would offer an immediate upgrade as a starter, such as a CB or DT. What I like about that scenario is we’d get a veteran who would very likely contribute immediately. I’m not expecting a Probowl level player, but a + starter year 1. Like a young Amos or Billy Turner quality, but at a position of need. That plus a future Day 3 pick swap 5th Rounder or our 6th etc.

Oh I could easily see a team that isn’t in contention and an unknown future at QB saying we’ll test Malik rest of the year here is a guy we aren’t gonna be able to pay after the season that has an expiring contract in exchange…think like a Kingsley Enagbare level guy back in exchange if say heaven forbid Gary was injured and we need to try and lesson the hurdle some…there’d be for sure a valid reason to do such a move
