Helmet History question

I really enjoyed watching them beat up on the giants yesterday, but in the middle of one of the lulls a thought occurred to me. What color is the facemask, grill they were wearing yesterday? At first I thought it was black, but that didn't make sense to me, so I thought maybe it was green to match the stripes in the helmet, but for some reason it looks darker. Does anyone know what color the grill is?

Secondly, has it always been this color? I seem to remember them being a different color at some point? Or did I imagine it?

I would support a change back to gray facemasks. He's right, the dark green does look black at times.

I was just thinking about what the packers uniform would look like if they used a metallic gold rather than the yellow. Interesting.
