A few reasons.

Belichick's coaching tree is trash. No one has accomplished anything after getting hired out of New England. Bill O'Brien's marginally above average performance is the high water mark.

McDaniels has already proven to be consistent with the trend of NE assistants. He flopped in Denver. He was the Rams' OC for one season and they scored 12 points per game (TWELVE!). Meanwhile, the Patriots offense didn't skip a beat without him.

His tenure in Denver wasn't just a failure (lots of great coaches fail their first time around)-- it was dramatic. He created a massive rift with his quarterback immediately, had to trade him, and lost the team after a hot start (after a 6 win streak to start 2009, he went 5-18 before a mid season 2010 firing.

And yes, his actions last off-season were totally bush league. We obviously don't know the whole story, but the hiring of his DC choice clearly demonstrates that he had agreed to be the coach. Then he backed out like a spineless sleezeball. Good for the Colts-- they landed a great coach and missed out on a future failure.

He's a fraud who has ridden Belichick and Brady's coattails to notariety.

I knew there were reasons that I didn't like him.

The Packers will interview Josh McDaniels on Friday.
I have a sneaky feeling about McDaniels becoming the coach, and I’m not crazy about it at all. I’d love to see him as offensive coordinator though.

I don't like the idea of the Packers hiring McDaniels either. Unfortunately I'm not overly impressed with any of the candidates the team has shown interest so far.

He’d have a long ways to go to get my respect, I guess support comes from being a Packer fan.

I hope some more impressive candidates emerge. I'd be Ok with a handful of these guys, but none of them are that exciting.

I for one, want him, don't want a retread, don't want a college coach. AR will have respect for him.

Thanks for the explanation and the insight. I was just curious as there are some who would dismiss him solely on that one item.

I don't really have a favorite that I want them to hire. But what will tick me off is if we have to settle for our fourth or fifth choice because other teams will have hired our top choices. Right now there are eight vacancies for NFL head coaches, that's 25% of the league!

I hope we get someone who surprises us. When MM was hired, a lot of people were saying, Who.

But he did a pretty good job for about 8 yrs.

I want someone who is creative and can command the locker room. Someone Rodgers will not look down his nose at.;)

Totally agree with this. His bromance with Tebow and the resulting split in the fan base in Denver is another concern. How many red flags does Murphy need to see?

BB makes the Patriots work, everyone else is along for the ride. As soon as they leave they flop.

Agreed. McDaniels is rumored to be the clear-cut favorite, and I can see why. I don't see how anyone can argue that another candidate is more qualified. Why in the hell would anyone want the Packers to hire a college coach, or someone totally unproven over McDaniels?

I will be very happy when they hire McDaniels.

Josh McDaniels has been the play-caller for one of the most consistent, efficient, and productive offenses over the past 5 years. This also has been done without a ton of talent at the receiver position.

Did you happen to watch the Patriots/Packers game this year?

The Patriots went down the field in the blink of an eye, snapping the ball with 30 seconds on the play clock...I'm going to guess McDaniels had something to do with that. ;)

To answer title town’s question, as someone who would prefer an unproven guy in Eric Bienemy. I see McDaniels as a 4 to 5 year Aaron Rodgers solution, which might not be a bad thing.

McDaniels, where ever he’s been, hasn’t been a developer of football players. Charlie Weis developed Brady and McDaniels took over during his prime. Cutler got shipped out, Tebow is, Tebow and Sam Bradford wasn’t any good until he got to Philly.

I would much rather have a coach who has been developing young players and has a track record of success. So I would take Bienemy as a longer term solution because he has developed both receivers and running backs andaccroding to reports, quarterbacks with Mahomes.

I would be okay with McDaniels but he’s only going to be successful if the FO goes all in during the next 2-4 years with veterans at key positions and a healthy and MVP level Rodgers.

Setting aside the fact that he did that with Brady and Bellichick.... When he was given the chance to show his stuff as a head coach.... things did not go well. My real issues with him center around his integrity.... but i’m still not convinced he has proven anything on his own.

What has EB done? He is operating with a young, not beat up QB. On a rookie contract. AR is not going to operate the Chiefs offense at this point, 5 years ago, yea probably could, not now. JM has an offense built and made for what our QB is today. AR is more mobile then Brady but he will never be Patty. JM's O gives us a chance to have a QB play into his 40's. Too many think when AR is done we'll just produce anther HOF QB, it's not a lock. I remember the 70's and 80's. We have generational talent at QB, adapt to it and find a way to make it last as long as possible. Have you seen what the Pats have for receiver's this year?

As a head coach, nothing. I didn’t say he’s done anything besides develop players and coordinate a great offense this year.

McDaniels would be a fine pick as head coach, but I think he’s a push all your chips in type of hire. Maybe that’s the best option, I’m not sure.

My main point is, McDaniels hasn’t developed any QBs and really no other players of note (James white and Gronk might qualify).

Short term, McDaniels, long term id rather have a coach with a track record of development.

Exactly. What are two things the Patriots offense does well? 1 - Short and quick passes to keep drives alive. 2 - get receivers open. Both of these things have been lacking for the Packers. I can't count the number of times Brady stands there and finds Gronk wide open without a defender in sight...and Gronk isn't exactly quick...the system JM operates will be perfect to fix what has been hurting Green Bay's offense.
