Has Eddie Lacy taken his last carry as a Packer?

As time goes on it will only get harder for Eddie to rebound. I still think he would make a good 1-2 punch so if the $ is right we could sign him to a shorter 1-2 year contract as a #2 role, but either way we need to move forward next year with a suitable and younger replacement.

Lacy proved this season that he doesn't want to put in the work necessary or pass on junk food to stay in shape. Therefore I don't believe he will ever keep his weight under control and don't see any reason to re-sign him.

I wouldn't write off Lacy quite yet. He will not command much in free agency with the conditioning and injury history. Consider the cost/benefit aspect under a short term compete-for-#1 contract that would be tolerable as a 10 carry #2.

In my opinion Lacy had the chance to convince the Packers of being worthy to receive a second contract. He failed miserably and therefore doesn't deserve another opportunity.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Packers aren't willing to sign him to anything but a low end contract. It also won't surprise me to see Eddie make a second visit to Tony Horton and try to get himself ready to sign for more money with a team that is willing to gamble on Eddie.

I wouldn't trust Lacy to stay in shape during the season though no matter how much weight he loses in the offseason training with Horton or someone else.

Captain,
I agree with you on him not staying in playing shape. It seems as if he really doesn't have any interest in what the Packers expect from him. He does what he wants. It's time to show him the door a.s.a.p.

I've thought from Eddie's first day that he wasn't all that interested in football. He wants to make enough money that he can sit around and play video games and read comic books for the rest of his life. I can't hold it against him though. If you're just not that into it but have the ability to set yourself up for life by doing it, it would take a rare breed of person to keep pushing, pushing, pushing to be great anyways.

Depending on what happens with the Packers, TT and MM all the decisions on players could change directions. Obviously, a new GM and or coach may see players like Lacy in the same light as they are under now, but you just never know what direction new management will take with players.

I am pretty certain though, if the Packers are out of playoff contention, we probably won't see Eddie or Shields again this year, if ever, in Green Bay.

2017 is one of the deepest running back classes in recent times, and I think we can get a very good back in the second or third round. I can't see us locking Lacy up to a long term deal unless TT views it as good value for money.

Lacy could probably get more elsewhere if he did hit FA too, so I just can't see it.

Lacy is done. It's a shame for the team, and for that young man. What a waste, and most of it was due to his choices and actions.

The Seahawks just cut Christine Michael, who improved precipitously this year, he'd be worth picking up to at least get some credible RB on the field. Michael wasn't great, wasn't bad, but is far better than Starks. The only reason the Hawks cut him was the return of Rawls. Carroll is notorious for playing with fire depth-wise.

Or......the Packers could pursue Le’Veon Bell or another RB in the FA Market......that is if TT is no longer with the Packers. :coffee:
It's interesting that bell hasn't resigned a deal yet hence the suspensions but if he went to the market it would be massive contract... just think Rodgers with him... we would have to get rid of shields Matthews

I wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of Matthews for Bell..if he he could stay off the weed. But he can't. So I say no. They should've signed Forte when they had the chance to and cut Starks.

They are cutting him because the return of Rawls and the fact that he can't beat out two rookies for the #3 spot.

For those who don't know what Casablanca is:

Chic bi-level Middle Eastern restaurant & cocktail lounge with ****** & weekly belly dancers.

Maybe he was applying to become a belly dancer?

At least he is eating Middle Eastern food :D

I expect the Steelers to re-sign Bell before the start of free agency.

Someone else... fine, but Reggie bush, even in his absolute prime, is not a replacement for Lacy.

Lol you clearly never watched Reggie Bush in his prime. He was one of the most explosive and dangerous offensive players in the NFL. He made plays on special teams, out at wr, and as a running back. You must of meant Michael Bush

First of all, I have watched Reggie Bush since he started playing for USC, and he was a dominant back in college. In my opinion, you are overstating his contributions in the NFL, however, that was not my point anyway. Bush and Lacy are nothing alike. Lacy is a powerback while Bush is a smaller elusive back. Therefore, bush cannot replace Lacy.

During his 11-year career Reggie Bush never had as many yards from scrimmage than Lacy had in 2014 and only once more than the Packers running back had as a rookie. Bush was a big play threat who never lived up to expectations in the NFL though.

When you said "replace" I didn't think you meant running style. That I would agree too yea.

You're probably right. They may be losing core performers at a rate faster than they have been able to draft and develop them.

Sounds like any hope for Eddie or Sam to return this year is over.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/11/23/eddie-lacy-sam-shields-wont-return-this-season/

Thanks for your service guys, I don't expect to see either of them back in GB next year.

Cornerback Makinton Dorleant will be given the designation and resume practicing with the team on Wednesday.

Looks like we found our shut down CB to save the season! :coffee:

Sorry, I just started an individual thread on Dorleant being designated to return because I figured it was a thread-worthy development, then I saw this. Feel free to merge if it's not!

I figure by the end of the season, a bunch of threads can just be merged under one title: "Big Trouble in Little Green Bay" or even in the "Fire Capers" or "Fire TT" or........pick an active thread that usually spins into one of the issues facing the Packers.
