We have already seen Love suffer 2 injuries, both requiring Malik to come in and play. So if you trade Malik after this season (some thought the Packers should have traded him before Nov. 5th), who is your capable backup? Clifton?
Now if we had 2 solid backups, I can see having this conversation. However, we don't. The more I think about this, the more I think Gute would be absolutely nuts to part with Willis for anything short of a decent 2nd rounder. A capable backup QB isn't that easy to come by, a capable back up QB that is making $1.4M is even hard to come by.
As a matter of fact, as long as Willis would be ok with it, I would try to sign him to a longer term contract at backup type of money. Which I think is actually more of the wildcard here, it may be Willis pushing for a trade, so he can try to earn a starting gig and paycheck.
