If he was going to play for a team this year and sign now, I hope we were at least in this conversation until the end.

The Packers probably made a mistake not signing Reid after he's not a persona non grata after all.

I saw the alert on my phone, and my lizard brain thought it said "Packers.." and I was so excited for a few seconds.

Then I reread it and cried a little on the inside.

One thing to consider that I wasn't aware of is the fact that while Reid lined up mostly at free safety early in his career he played only 25.8% of his snaps there over the past two seasons.

I don't think this present team would make any signing look good at the minute. Richard Sherman would look ordinary.

I guess the Packers having signed the best veteran free safety available on the market would have had a positive impact on defending the pass.

IMO, had the Packers signed him, no matter where he played, he probably is a significant upgrade over the players we have right now. I hope I am wrong.

I'm biting my tongue until the end of the season on this one and will wait to see how it plays out. However, for those who say "what are the Packers suppose to do to improve the S position, nobody better is out there?" One of those nobodies was probably just signed by the Panthers. :x3:

Let’s be real honest here...Green Bay is full of Conservative Caucasians. That’s why Reed wasn’t signed. It doesn’t help that the team doesn’t have a true owner either.

Heard Earl Thomas is still out there looking for a team that actually wants him...

Actually, I thought due to the fact that the team didn't have a true owner, Reid was a perfect fit in GB. Nobody in GB would have to explain to the 31 owners why Reid was fine to sign. As far as the culture of fans, who knows, but I for one would have welcomed Reid to the team because of how good of a football player he has been.

Probably a few other Safeties in a trade deal would be available as well. Any trade, especially for a high priced player like Thomas, is a much more complicated and probably expensive transaction than just signing Reid would have been.

I would have bought a jersey, he was a guy I've wanted since he was drafted by the 9er's back when I used to pay attention to guys coming out of college. I did figure he was not going to play this year at all though. So what do I get? A kick in the balls that he signed with someone else and another kick in the balls because I was wrong again. One more and I'll have no balls left uninjured

He wants 13-14 mil a year. Hell if they got rid of Matthews, and HAHA at years end they can do that. Because no way are they resigning HCD if they bring in Thomas. Draft a SS and let the youngins bond and learn from Earl Thomas.

I am not at all someone who thinks that the anthem protests are a good idea and I still believe this would have been a great move. Too bad.

Disappointed the Packers didn't sign him. Obvious they need the help at safety and I'd be curious for someone to ask Gute why the Packers didn't make a run at him.

I didn't see that assertion in what he said at all. I think he was just trying to be realistic about one of the factors at play here-- large portions of the Green Bay fan base would be angered by signing Reid.

I'm not at all interested in a discussion of whether that's good, bad, or otherwise. But I do think it's a valid point to bring up, as people running the organization need to consider it.
