I’ve seen mention of these in other threads but maybe we need one dedicated to that.

I see Miami right behind us needing a QB, WA a couple picks behind them in the same situation.

If there’s “A” QB available at 12 that those two teams... or perhaps others covet, GB could get some pretty interesting offers.

We could concievably wind up with 4 of the first 50 players off the board.

For example, Green Bay’s #1 and #3 for WA’s #1 and #2

Washington acquired Keenum, I highly doubt they're interested in trading up for a quarterback in the first round.

Why would acquiring keenum prevent them from trading up for a qb? Keenum has been proven to not be a franchise qb thus Washington still needs one

My hope is that Washington is enamored enough to make the Packers phone ring and that Miami or some other team is scared enough to start a bidding war for our pick.

My Hope is that we quit with the trading down for later, lesser picks crap and draft the highest quality players we can.

A common enough concern for sure and I don't entirely disagree. Still, I think moving back a few spots while picking up more picks later on is something to consider. Especially if you then use the pick(s) gained to move up again later on say from 30 to the upper 20s or even better from 44 back into the first round.

It all depends on how the first 11 picks play out. If someone who is widely consider a top 7-8 player drops you might be hard pressed to justify not taking him. On the other hand if you have a group of several players you like equally you might be foolish to sit at 12 and pick from them when moving back will get you more picks and still leave you with a player that you like.

While Keenum isn't a franchise quarterback he's presents a security blanket for Washington not having to move up in the draft to select a quarterback most likely not being worth to in the first place.

Agree on Keenum not being the long-term solution in Washington....The question then becomes, who in this draft does Washington think might be?

If they have a guy in mind, and believe division rival New York Giants have the same guy in mind, they might have to move up to pick #5 (Tampa Bay) to get him.

That still benefits Green Bay; Every quarterback taken ahead of pick #12 drops another position player further down the board.

I think it's pretty well for sure that Kyler Murray will be the first pick to Arizona. The only other QB Im sure goes before gb is on the clock is Dwayne Haskins. And I think that'll be at 6 to the Giants or 7 to the jaguars. Now the wildcard is the broncos I think there's a good chance that John elway takes Drew Lock at 10. If that happens that means only 8 non qbs will be taken by the time gute is on the clock. There should be a good shot to get a guy like Ed Oliver, Devin White, montez sweat at 12. Also in that scenario Daniel Jones would be the only possible first round QB left on the board. And I think it's more likely someone would try to trade back into the first round to take him at say #30

I agree the qbs in this draft probably not worth moving up for but was Josh Rosen worth moving up for last year? Someone probably still will move up whether it's worth it or not.

The thing about keenum is yes he's a decent stop gap. But if you don't draft a QB high as well you're basically telling your fans were not trying to win and we're ok with wasting a season with keenum under center while not developing a high draft pick. To me the only reason to have keenum is to give you time to get a rookie with franchise potential ready to play

Here's another draft day trade I saw mentioned in an nfl.com article I believe. It was titled" 10 trades that need to happen before the draft"

And like the first or second one was, the Patriots send the Packers a 3rd round pick for te Jimmy Graham.

Id jump all over this trade I think. While Graham will likely have a pretty good statistical season in 2019. I think it would be better going forward to draft a tj hockenson in the first and then another guy later on

The Broncos traded for Flacco this offseason, I highly doubt they will select a quarterback at 10.

There's a chance to win with Keenum starting as well as the Vikings made it to the NFCCG with him only two season ago. Once again, I don't have the impression any team will be interested in trading up for a quarterback in this year's with none of them being considered a possible franchise player.

And like the first or second one was, the Patriots send the Packers a 3rd round pick for te Jimmy Graham.

I highly doubt the Packers are interested in trading Graham at this point as the team would only save $300K in cap space.

The Flacco thing is the same as Keenum. They are not "the guy" they are a stop gap so you can get your future frachise guy up to speed without just throwing him into the fire. I believe it's called "the Aaron Rodgers method.".

I think both Washington and Denver will be after a QB in this draft. Now will they take one in the first to get one of the top three or do they trade back into the first and try to get a Daniel Jones at the bottom of the first or maybe top of the second. Or a will Grier in the third etc.

Also the Vikings team keenum took to the nfccg was infinitly more talented than the one he will have in Washington. I don't think there's a comparison to be made there. The Vikings had an elite defense and 2 of the top 10/15 wrs in the NFL. Washington has nothing close to that.

As for trading Graham, I didn't write the article. But surely the salary cap savings of only 300k wouldn't be a deal breaker. Picking up a extra pick in the top 100 for an underachieving veteran who is probably not in your plans after this season seems to be a great deal to me. I'd actually be more surprised if the Patriots offered a 3rd for him although I think they do have a few of them

I don't see any way BB trades for Graham. He has the draft capital to probably get any TE in the draft he wants so why go for a over the hill guy when you can get someone like Hockenson or Fant

Trading for the “best players” and making a decision of moving up or down the board are not mutually exclusive.
We can’t just expect our best fit prospects to fall to our #, that’s not even worthy of being called an “antiquated approach” but moreso that would be going in with “blinders on”. The NFL draft board is a moving target and we should be 100% fully prepared to stay pat, move up, move down, move sideways or all of the above combined (e.g 2018 GBP model)
Im very thankful that we have a GM who has started with this mindset in 2018 and has verbally offered to us that he subscribes to continuing this approach in the future. I’m excited to see what the result of that thinking from 2018 lands us with pick #30 and furthermore how crafty Gute can be at the negotiating table in 2019.

I agree that neither Flacco nor Keenum are franchise quarterbacks but in my opinion aside of Kyler Murray there isn't one available in this year's draft either making it unrealistic to expect either the Broncos selecting or Washington trading up to grab one.

The Packers most likely won't trade Graham as the move would result in a total of $12.3 million in dead money counting against the cap.

My comment was more my disgust with the past practice of "owning the 6th round" and so on, stocking up on day 3 picks. If you can pull a deal like Gute did last year, fine.

This year is truly starting to capture my attention more than most drafts in the past....sitting at #12 I could see our phone absolutely BLOWING UP or not making a whisper.....lot depends on the decisions of the Jaguars & Giants....even the Broncos. Is there any push on QB's or do we see a flood of edge guys....

If Giants don't go Dwayne at 6 and he is still there at our pick...I wouldn't be shocked for a pick swamp of their 17 for our 12 and we pick up perhaps a 2nd but give a 3rd or 4th....or if Dwayne is still on board at our pick Redskins (much debated I know) could maybe push for the pick.

Or crickets could ensue and Gute and Co. I hope pick whichever player they have with the highest grade on their board....which at 12 I truly suspect should be a day one starter...with the exception of possible an OL or DL guy.

can players decide to reject being drafted if they don't want to play for a certain team, if Arizona decided to select Bosa with the first, can he refuse them?
can organisations approach players before the draft in any way to try an persuade them to wait for that teams selection?

I agree with the above poster - Flacco and Keenum are stop gaps. It's entirely possible that the Broncos and Redskins will want to have their guy develop while sitting behind a veteran. Whether we're viewing them (the aforementioned rookie QBS) as franchise QB's or not, they're projected to be first round picks and those franchises wanting to get a head start on developing their guy will be interested. If the Redskins believe the Dolphins will take a QB, then they'll call us to beat them to the podium. It's not an unrealistic scenario.

Eli Manning did that and so did Bruce Clark. There have been others as well. I think Elway did that as well.

If a player does not want to play for a particular team I believe he may elect to sit out the entire year and become a free agent the following year. The team hold his rights for one year after the draft and the player can not sign with any other NFL team. He can sign and play with another league. In 1980 after being drafted in the first round by the Packers Clark went to Canada but the Packers retained his right and in 1982 they traded his rights to the Saints for their 1983 first rounder. Now this is different than what I initially said in that the Packers still held his rights even after the 1 year but I think they may have changed it so the player only has to sit out for one year. Since drafted players do not have to sign contracts none of the contract issues come into play.

Elway was drafted by the Colts but said he wouldn't play for them and they traded his rights to the Broncos. Eli Manning had said he wouldn't play for the Chargers who had the #1 pick but they took him anyway. It is said that they had worked out a deal with the Giants that if they (the Chargers) took manning the Giants would take Rivers then they would trade. One of the articles I read made it sound like the deal was worked out before the draft but if so I don't know why they wouldn't have just made the swap for picks. I think the Chargers decided they were going to take Manning no matter what and once they had him they were going to hold out for the best deal they could get.

I initially thought players would reenter the draft the following year but I recall reading something that said they were only eligible for the draft in their first year out of college.

I'm sure someone else (Come on Captain) will have the straight facts.

Bottom line if both sides don't budge the player sits for at least a year.

A player selected in the draft deciding not to sign a contract would have to re-enter the draft next season.

Teams are allowed to bring in 30 players for a pre-draft visit. They aren't allowed to pursuade them to not sign with anpther team.

In my opinion it's wishful thinking that another team offers the Packers a solid deal to move up to #12 to select any of the quarterbacks available at that point.
