I agree with your assessment. How old is Thomas now? SS requires a very athletic player, and that athleticism can decline quickly (see CMIII). So no, a trade here is not in the best interests of the team. With Mack out of the picture, a better scenario is for Gluten to package those two picks and move up to the top 12 or 15 next year and take one of the best edge rushers. (Although I understand the class of 2019 will be strong with edge rushers.)

On the SS vs FS thing, I was thinking more along the lines of maximizing Thomas. He is aging, but at the moment remains the best pure "center fielding" free safeties in the game. To move him to SS for the last season of his 20's would be silly. Move someone else. Let the HOF'er play where he was born to play.

Now way do you pkg two first rd picks unless you KNOW what you are getting. The only time you do that is if you are trading for a a proven guy imo. I dont think a rookie is worth that.

You wouldn't have traded 2 low first rounder to move up and get Chubb? Just curious, I'm not even sure that would have been enough to get it done.

Its funny how teams are willing to give up so much for the chance to draft an unknown but when a proven blue chipper come available they all of a sudden go scrooge McDuck. Its not just Mack either. Brandin Cooks aside how many times do guys get traded for what seems to be a real bargain given their past performance. To me a second for Thomas would be a great deal. Of course there is the contract thing. I wouldn't do it for a one year rental and do you know what you would get for an additional 3 years or how much it would cost. I suppose that's why some teams balk at giving up too much in picks. Its not that the 2nd is too much just that the eventual cost makes it more of a risk. I think that's what happened in the Mack case. I would have been fine giving up 2 first rounders for him but not having to pay him what he eventually got from the Bears.

Prepare yourself... Gute is saving picks to trade up and draft himself a QB.......
Let the possibility of that sink in for a while. Lol...

You know, if Rodgers hadn't just signed an extension this would give me serious pause. But he did.

You think they are going to risk doing it before they lock him in for the next 4-6 years.... Depending on how the rookie developes...

I don’t think so. Rodgers will be here for a while. I think they will take a WR next year and a tackle in the 1st rd.

Depends where we pick and who’s available on their board. Any thoughts on what positions are likely projected to be strong in 1st round talent in this upcoming draft class?

Well I know that many are saying edge rusher...but Perry is under contract for a couple more years, and there are talks that they are working on another extension for Clay Matthews. Matthews May not be an elite pledge rusher anymore..but he allows the Packers flexibility to fix areas in more of need Like O line....and although they’ve taken a lot of WRs none of them stand out to make me comfortable enough to say that position still isn’t an area of NEED. Especially since I feel this will be Cobbs last season in Green Bay. I like Dalton Risner from Kansas State as Bulagas replacement...and AJ Brown from allen Miss to replace Cobb. Those two will go in rd 1....how high I don’t know.

The Packers aren't going to pick a quarterback any higher than the 3rd round for at least another couple years.

That was my mistake. I meant FS. It would be an intriguing acquisition. Overall, I’m not impressed with the Packers’ safety group. Hoping that HHCD returns to pro bowl form.

You’re probably right about that. It’s done more often when a team is trying to trade up in the draft to pick a QB, and even then, it’s a 50/50 proposition. If there is a guy they really like, Gluten might do some dealing. Next year’s class is supposed to be heavy on edge rushers. I’m sure there will be plenty of talent available if the Packers stay where they are, assuming their pick and NO’s pick are in the 25 plus range. It was good dealing by Gluten to get a second first round pick and still nab Alexander and later, Jackson.

Josh Jones out with an ankle injury, won't play Sunday. Not that he would probably be ready to play right away, but time to sign Reid!
