I think everyone agrees that, regardless of the 'complete' formula, the far-and-away #1 factor is the contract. If you don't care one way or the other, please mention that before commenting so I can spend my time researching for people who do. :)

Will do  Thanks for the info though. It makes sense now.

I was referring to the formula for determining comp picks and not the actual salaries but again, I did not realize those guys signed deals that big. Didn't realize they didn't either I suppose since I didn't care one way or the other.
History shows the size of the contract is the primary measure for comp picks. One might say the overwhelming determinant.

I doubt Gutekunst will be very interested in Brown for the reason Dante stated SF let him go. We've got a head coach and O-Line coach coming from systems with outside zone run blocking. They need guys more athletic than Brown to execute it.

Perhaps so, but LeFleur said his scheme would reflect more on what he had as players than just running a concept no matter what. Granted the run game was crappy on inside zone blocking too, but our OL is currently constructed that way.

Personally, I just want upgrades on the line. Let Brown play Guard even if he's not athletic enough in an outside system.

I don't think that's a recipe for success.

Flexibility in coaching is important. But cohesion with a scheme is important too. If you line is a mish mash of players, some of whom excel blocking the zone run and some of whom belong in a gap system, you're likely to be good at neither.

I wholeheartedly agree, however, we're talking about just one player and not a hodgepodge of players. Brown would favor an inside scheme at OT and if necessary would make a good transition to OG for either scheme. We have a critical need at both positions I'd say. He could be a great upgrade or stopgap until drafted rookies develop. Bakhtiari and Brown on Rodger's blindside looks like an excellent option to me.

Given that Solder just get about 16M/season coming off an average season for New England, I'm thinking that paying Brown to be a questionable fit would be a bad decision.

I can't see Brown getting $16M, maybe $8-$10M. Solder has had an impressive resume for several years. Granted I understand we've got a new staff but the Packers have been converting OTs to OGs for years, I wouldn't call it a gamble necessarily. Again, with the OLs current state he fits in just fine.

I will print this post and eat it if he gets 10M or below.

I also don't see a 6'8" player moving inside.

And lastly, I think this type of move is what gets teams in trouble. The Patriots made a savvy acquisition and got their tackle for cheap. The sucker team is the one that then pays through the nose for him and then deals with a bloated contract when the guy declines away from that system and Scarnechia.

... and meanwhile Belichick will get another comp pick for Brown signing with that sucker team you mention. It won’t be a 3rd rounder, but still, the cycle continues.

Brown will all but guaranteed be offered starting tackle money in free agency, there's no reason for the Packers to match a deal like that for him to play guard.

Bakhtiari and Brown on Rodger's blindside looks like an excellent option to me.

While Taylor struggled last season the right side of the line is in more dire need of an upgrade this offseason.
