Several decades ago, I took a girlfriend to Door County for our 1yr dating anniversary. She allowed me to stop in Green Bay to take her through the old Packers HOF. I remember her asking if we were in Green Bay yet. Just then a bunch of houses appeared with the first one sporting a massive moose rack mounted above the garage door. It kind of confirmed that we were entering Green Bay, and moments later you could see Lambeau Field.Out of towners always assume Green Bay exists in isolation. It is surrounded by suburbs.
Schlitz. The beer that made Milwaukee famous. I'm old enough to remember when that was a really, really good beer. Then they messed with the formula, watered it down it seemed, and that was that.Yes - my therapist's logo is my profile picture
I used to work there, in the Brown County Arena. That was a summer job; my first job ever. $1.35 an hour, and I'll never forget how amazed i was when I looked at that first check. I guess it, was, like 30 or 40 bucks or something. I remember seeing the deduction for Social Security, and wondering if I would live long enough to ever collect.Several decades ago, I took a girlfriend to Door County for our 1yr dating anniversary. That's it - the rice recipe. Wow that was bad beer. Huge mistake.Back in the early 2000s, they tried to re-create the original formula which was lost to history. They gathered a few of the remaining brew masters from Schlitz and tried to get it as close as possible. If you see Schlitz in the liquor store now, it's that re-creation of the original. It's not quite what it was, but it is far better than the rice recipe that killed it during the beer wars.
Now it's just a decent lager but semi-hard to find.
Hopefully they leave though. I think the fairgrounds is already full with rvs and such. I do have a place to park about a mile away with a quick access to get home.Considering the population of GB is just north of 100,000 (I think), there won't be nearly as many hotel rooms as needed, even coming as far south as Milwaukee. So I'm guessing it's going to be a massive cluster on day one with a lot of people driving in and out of Green Bay (or as close as they can get), and then a big reduction in crowd size on days 2 and 3. Watch for a lot of tent cities to be springing up. It will look like San Francisco......
I think he got busy loading up all the wagons and trying to find parking for them, so that he can set-up in Green Bay!Impatiently waiting for Amish to crank up the draft contest

I expect my future D-I-L to drop me and my son off within hiking distance of the stadium. She did it for the Thanksgiving game this year. Corner of Ridge and Lombardi. Can't get any closer. Was waiting for us afterwards at the exact same spot.Hopefully they leave though. I think the fairgrounds is already full with rvs and such. Thanks. Didn't see it.He has a thread already. https://www.packerforum.com/threads/the-80th-annual-amish-mafia-draft-contest.85791/
That area will be closed down for the draft. I think all of Lombardi will be blocked off. I don't think many people will realize how crowded it will be. Those people with those houses got humbled. One was offering 10,000 a night but is now down to 3000. She was so sad in the interview.I expect my future D-I-L to drop me and my son off within hiking distance of the stadium. The crowd estimate is 250,000. I mean, that's a huge number for any major city in the US, much less Green Bay.That area will be closed down for the draft. I think all of Lombardi will be blocked off. It will probably be pretty bad. Brown County has fewer than 5000 hotel rooms, and the NFL is expecting anywhere from 250,000 to 400,000 people to attend. That means at least a quarter of a million people are going to have to stay out of town, and I've been told that hotels as far away as Steven Point (90 miles) are booked up.I just hope the weather is decent for the Draft. Still an ify time of the year.... although a few snow flurries finding their way to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field at any point of the event would be appropriate.
I'm a little worried about finding decent parking on Saturday. My friend Mac and I are making the almost 3 hr drive that morning, and hopefully the traffic isn't all backed up on 141.
I had read somewhere they were bringing in cruise ships to use as additional "hotel rooms." Is that still part of the plan?It will probably be pretty bad. So literally hundreds of thousands of people are going to be driving into Green Bay from all over Eastern Wisconsin. I had planned to go myself, until I heard that. I think traffic will be a colosssal mess; it's like having 3 Packer games all at once.
