I think Patrick and McCray performed at a pretty similar level, making it most likely one of the toughest decision for Thompson.
And both will be out if and when Barclay is healthy enough to play.

EDIT: Demovsky erred on that one, Calvin hasn't been cut but might end uo on the practice squad.
He still has to be cut to get to the practice squad tho.

The WR cuts are going to be one of the toughest decisions to make. I can easily see one of our bubble WR's getting stripped from our practice squad and activated on someone's 53.
Posters say this every year but it rarely happens. I think most teams have fans that say the same thing. Depends who hits the waiver wires between now and Sunday.

EDIT: I wasted my 7000th post on this tripe??

think most of these have been named so far, but will try to put on one list and then edit and update as they fall:

That's a distinct possibility.

I'm well aware of that but as of right now Calvin hasn't been informed that he will be released.

He could go 9 OL and keep both, though I doubt it.

I fully expect the Packers to keep nine offensive lineman on the 53 with Barclay's status being up in the air for the opener. Holding on to both McCray and Patrick would most likely result in 10 being on the roster entering week 1.

It's possible we've reached the end of the Don Barclay era. Or he goes to IR.

Out of the clear blue western skies...
Ir....
There's my spot for fackrell back.
IR seems to be a strong possibility. If he's going to be out another month or more before he can start rehab maybe they just figure on returning him to the 53 once he's back to 100%. He'll need to be 100% to play with reasonable effectiveness since he's always teetering between barely winning against his opponents or losing - sometimes pretty badly. He lacks that desired athletic edge over much of his competition. Scrappy and savvy are his game just as much as his physical limitations will allow him to compete. He's serviceable when he's 100%.

With the Packers not having a valid backup center on the roster I doubt the team plans to move on from Barclay or put him on injured reserve if there's any chance of him being back within the first few weeks of the season.

These are all the obvious first day cuts. Nothing exciting yet.
This afternoon is going to suck though.

Or....it might be awesome when the Packers pick up a player of need from another team ;) While all cuts at this time of year are hard, I don't see any players that could be on the bubble as drastic losses. I would like to see McCaffrey stick, but think we have plenty of good WR's if he doesn't.

Maybe Captain can shed some light on this...or anyone......Buehler....Buehler? As players are released, what is the "pecking order" if any, for teams to pick up said player? I keep reading "player has to clear the waiver wire and then can be put on the PS on Sunday". When I read "waiver wire" I don't assume any of them are FA's and can resign with anyone they want but the waiver wire procedures have to be followed? If that is the case, someone(s) in the NFL is going to be REALLY busy in the next 24 hrs trying to collect names and teams as guys are cut and claims are submitted.

Teams are allowed to sign vested veterans (minimum of four accrued seasons) immediately after they have been released. All other players are subject to the waiver wire system, meaning teams have 24 hours to file a claim for that player.

Clubs are assigned players on a priority basis. Currently, until the day after the third regular season week, assignments are based on a claiming order that is the same as the order in which clubs selected in that year’s draft.

Thanks Cap. Makes sense. With many of the releases being non-vested veterans, it will be a busy day in the "waiver wire" offices keeping track of all the claims and who is next up in priority. Guessing they have a nice computer program to do it.....or with as "cash poor" as the NFL is......they have this guy keeping track of it all....

According to several sources Dom Capers is using the exact same model during meetings with the team.

Hill took #3 apparently...

Wouldn't surprise me to see Hill cut as well and the Packers will pick up either QB (if still available) for the PS. I would prefer that over carrying either one on the 53. Both are development at best, I doubt either could save the season if both Rodgers and Hundley went down.
