I like to think I balance positives against negative. Since nobody has yet mentioned why he dropped this far, I offer the following:

2016: arrest for pot and gun possession
2018: suspended 4 games for undisclosed reasons

So, there's character risk imbedded in his fall to #194.
Tynimiller follows ND pretty closely & answered my question of "why was he suspended in Sept. '18" that the team couldn't comment on it. He also said that Dexter's mother almost died around that time, so think he had some personal things going on & football might not have been #1 priority at the time.

Also, gun possession charge was dropped because his friend (who got busted at same time) was the one carrying.

According to PFF Williams fumbled twice last season. While I think the Packers got decent value selecting him in the sixth round he has to vastly improve in pass protection to receive a significant amount of snaps.
I think you are right, the stats I was looking at must have only shown "Fumbles lost", which it appears that the 2 he had, were recovered by Notre Dame.

Dex plays faster than his 40. Is he a burner no, but his one cut and shift to full comes quick and that is why he seemed to break a 20+ rush a game for ND.

If he can't get a 20+ yard run at least every other game, I'm going to need for him to drop the "Juice" moniker. AND he played for Notre Dame? THE DISRESPECT.

His upfield burst isn't unlike Jones. Seems like a good pick
Yeah, I watched a DB or three chasing him in the open field without closing on him. Those little guys aren’t 4.6 X40 guys either. He may have ran a 4.56 or whatever but he’s not someone you’re going to want to foot race if he has a step on ya, unless you’re a sub 4.39 type athlete.

Great value. Heard a bit on him NFL radio, someone picking him to be their surprise pick. Felt he was going higher than anyone thought and predicted he would make an impact in the NFL.

Character red flags, but with a 6th rounder, if you notice anything, cut him. No big deal. Definitely worth the risk.

He should’ve been gone, had a few minor character issues (don’t we all)
This is my favorite pick thus far. Superb value!

Yeah the weed issue and old suspended for undisclosed reasons, so failed **** test and the 4 game suspension probably had to do with a pot arrest. Kid was in a car full of teammates and speeding 13 over, not too bad, in a State that is basically a giant speed trap.

He has a nice 130 inch broad jump, so lots of natural explosion, which shows up on tape, for a big back who accelerates and retains enough speed to keep away from the guys who can tackle him and enough physicality to be more than a problem for the DBs on the backend.

I watched his tape against Clemson where he picked up a tough 54 yards on 16 carries. Not a banner day but A) Clemson dominated NDs offensive front, and managed a few jailbreak like penetrations. B) Williams showed on multiple occasions that he could with his acceleration run past defenders who should have had an angle on him, including one cat who is reputed to run in the 4.3s. He's one of those guys who has the initial burst to throw defenders off in their angles of pursuit. C) He's a physical player who seems to always get back to the LoS and always seems to fall forward, discounting those blown up sweep plays and another where his quarterback pitched it to him to avoid the sack. D) He reacts well and does what he should as the game moves around him, good decision making on his pass blocks and knows when to leak out for a pass.

They say that a good back is a guy who consistently gets that extra 1-2 yards for you and I think he showed that against Clemson. A lesser back would have struggled to hit 2 ypc behind an Oline as over matched as his was.

I'll be honest, I watched very little of ND this year, I was even skiddish on Boykin's highlights. I don't know what dirt Brian Kelly has on the AD to keep his job, because his recruiting for offensive players is just trash lately. Not saying Dex is garbage, it's just it seems like ever since Bama obliterated ND in the NC years ago they just never recovered.

The Fighting Irish went 12-0 last season before losing to Clemson in the playoff semifinal.

Yeah his mom sadly is battling two severe illnesses and doctors don't expect her life to last longer than 5 more years. ESPN actually shared the story on day 3 of the draft and it was very well done.

Dexter's mom actually moved to SB, during the whole undisclosed suspension issue (NOT the car incident from when he was younger and a passenger). I kinda hope his family travels to GB as well, because love to see his mom watch her boy play professional ball before she passes. The emotions of her when he got the call was intense, and no grown man couldn't share a tear or two with her.

For a back I think the broad jump is a better measurable than the 40 time which is influenced by top speed, something rarely relevant when attacking the LoS save for sweeps and tosses. It turns out, having just looked this up, that there's data backing this, that there is a stronger correlation between RB success in the league with Broad Jump as opposed to 40 time.

Where would Dex be on this chart, at the far right edge above and beyond the rest with 130 inches.
