Not gonna lie...easily will be #2 by years end for sure. Awesome story and hard one cut solid back.

Awesome pick for 6th rounder.

The "Hundley Pick" is in....

I like what I read about this guy. Not a speedster, but no fumbles in 4 years.

Had a 6.3 average on 158 carries last year.

Strengths
  • Possesses adequate NFL size with good flexibility
  • Stepped into bell-cow role with ease
  • Had four games with 140-plus yards and averaged a touchdown run every 12 carries
  • Understands block development and where lanes will originate
  • Adequate decisiveness as interior runner
  • Presses line of scrimmage to set blockers up for success
  • Loose hips to flow where his eyes take him
  • Processes traffic quickly to work away from peek-a-boo gap-fitters
  • Impressive acceleration
  • Mashes gas to win foot races to corner or hit the home run
  • Runs with square pads and drops heavy, pre-emptive blows on tacklers
  • Small career workload for fresh NFL legs
  • Ball security has been excellent in relatively limited work.

He should’ve been gone, had a few minor character issues (don’t we all)
This is my favorite pick thus far. Superb value!

Could be a good value pick. Saw that he was projected as a 4th rounder in many mocks.

Would have preferred a more shifty speedier back that is dangerous as a pass catcher, but what do I know. :)

This could get confusing.... 2 Williams in the backfield and 2 Smiths at OLB. :coffee:

Love this pick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tynimiller, you are right!!! If you've seen his story, I hope they draft his mom too. :)

He'll need coaching for sure but, I would have been happy to see him in the 4th round!!!!!

Average at best. Didn't WOW me with cuts. Caught nice check downs. Against top contenders like Clemson he just didn't do much. Anyways solid pick not one I would have made.

Living an hour from South Bend and being a Notre Damn fan, I’m surprised he wasn’t drafted earlier, this guy missed the first couple of games last season with a suspension and still was near 1000 yards. When he came back the offense was different. He’s was a difference maker for that team! I’m interested to see what he can do at the next level, it seemed like he would break a long run up the middle almost every game. Good take by GB.

Not saying he's a horrible player. He's solid RB, just think there were better players on board.

Is it just me or does it seem like the same posters only search for the negatives?

I get it, you have to look at positives and negatives, but sometimes .....oh never mind.

KR was my first thought too, but since he wasn’t much of a pass receiver with ND, I’m not sure about his high ball skills, let’s hope he can catch it

What I like is he apparently has no weaknesses :D

Packfan2 isn't a negative poster. He's a realistic poster. I don't always agree with him, and I don't here, but he's a good poster and far from negative.

Hey btw, I think I win the discussion on the Wisconsin OL. ;) All in good fun buddy!

Dexter was one of the better “value” picks in this draft in my opinion. Not a guy I was high on necessarily. He was a top 90 rated player but went 190’s. That’s an incredible pickup by us. No way should he have been in the 6th round and Ill bet Gute was doing everything he could do not to smile when he was still there at our selection. IMO, I think we strongly considered him at pick 150 so that was a steal
I had too many people convince me Singleterry would slip, I initially had him as a 3rd rounder and switched him back a round (bad move).

Agreed and that wasn't directly intended for Packfan2....so my apologies if he took it that way. I was just tired of reading all the negative comments, when this is the time we should all be excited over guys we had no control of being drafted.

What discussion about Wisconinsin OL? :whistling: That must have been the guy running this account prior to me. Badgers suck! They got nothing!

But hey, Dieter went in Rd. 3, which is earlier than I projected him. Edwards 5th Round. Benzschawel will be an UDFA somewhere. I still think all 3 have NFL careers ahead of them. But yes, still a far cry from the preseason prediction by the media that all 3 could be first rounders.

I was actually most excited to see Van Ginkel and Connelly both go in the 5th Rd.

I like to think I balance positives against negative. Since nobody has yet mentioned why he dropped this far, I offer the following:

2016: arrest for pot and gun possession
2018: suspended 4 games for undisclosed reasons

So, there's character risk imbedded in his fall to #194.

Further, he's a one year starter with 9 games played as a senior with the suspension so there's not a lot to go on. On the bright side, he does not have a lot of mileage.

What we do see is a patient runner who sets up his blocks, then one-cut-and-go. That's a fit for an outside zone scheme. Good value at this pick if he can stay out of trouble.

No worries. We good :)
We can all disagree on the players but what we can do now is just wait and see.

If anything LaFleur coached in ND and was able to coach Dex. Nothing but positive bout the kid from LaFleur. I know his mom was very sick and stayed with him to keep him out of trouble. Feel good story. Gute also mentioned in press conference of adding free agents via letting the players know they got a shot.

According to PFF Williams fumbled twice last season. While I think the Packers got decent value selecting him in the sixth round he has to vastly improve in pass protection to receive a significant amount of snaps.

Name of said players?

I honestly told @OldSchool101 that I thought Gute wouldn't touch him with the drug and gun charge in the shoutbox. Had my foot in my mouth no less than 5 minutes later. Personally I wish he was faster, I like my RBs to run 4.50 and under. But He can be a bell-cow, and that's what's needed in this position group right now, I can't stand to see Jamaal run 3.5 ypc through games when Jones is sidelined.

Dex plays faster than his 40. Is he a burner no, but his one cut and shift to full comes quick and that is why he seemed to break a 20+ rush a game for ND.

I'll be honest, I watched very little of ND this year, I was even skiddish on Boykin's highlights. I don't know what dirt Brian Kelly has on the AD to keep his job, because his recruiting for offensive players is just trash lately. Not saying Dex is garbage, it's just it seems like ever since Bama obliterated ND in the NC years ago they just never recovered.
