Rodgers as we know is the king of creating "free" plays.

A friend of mine was asking why, at times, when the center snaps the ball to start the play,
the ref's stop the play. and other times it's a free play and let's the play continue, what's the difference???

Cheers!

On a hard count by Rodgers...to draw defense off sides, if defensive player is unabaited to the quarterback... ref calls play dead. But if ball is snapped right at time defensive player jumps...its a free play. Many times Rodgers gets pissed due to ref calling play dead...knowing jordy was open...wait. ugh maybe someone else now!

Blown dead if there is contact or, as stated, unabated to the QB. Also if the OL moves in response to the defensive penalty. Any offensive penalty or movement prior to the snap is blown dead. Bugs the **** out of me if the defense jumps and the OL stands and points before the ball gets snapped. Morons should realize AR saw it and signaled the center to snap it if you'd give it a split second longer.

I feel like the refs have been not letting AR get as many free plays off as he did a couple years ago. I don’t think they like it.

In limited action Rodgers received a total of eight free plays last season but only completing two passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. That number doesn't seem to be down compared to previous seasons though.

Yes. One was against Seattle and one was effectively the game winner against Cincinnati.

Even the Seattle one was a huge play at that point in the game where both teams were struggling to find the end zone. Even with it only being two plays, those two plays could have been the difference in winning and losing the game.

The effect Rodgers is able to have in multiple areas of a football game is second to none.
