With Green Bay not taking the back up qb spot seriously.. they will simply be doomed lol u think they would have fixed that problem after Rodgers injuries etc.. like it’s okay to spend a a little money on a adequate back up..

Like who? There aren't enough starting caliber starters in the world, let alone enough adequate backups if you're lucky enough to have a legit starter.

Or continue to develop the QB who, when drafted, many said would be a project to develop with high upside.

Kizer.

Doing so costs the team no additional cap in signing a veteran.
Well the subject of this thread is what if AR gets injured. I'd rather have Teddy than Kizer in that case. Kizer is not yet ready to be a back up if AR can't play.

The same would have been said with Rodgers before he blew up against Dallas. Let the guy develop, this preseason will be very telling. Obviously the team not signing a veteran means they don't see any out there as cost effective upgrades over who they have now.

If any we should have made a move for Bridgewater. Or go back to Colin Kaep who nobody still wants.

The Saints would take an additional cap hit of $2.75 million this season by trading Bridgewater. There's no way that's happening.

Bridgewater signed a one year deal with the Jets in 2018 free agency for $5 mil base and up to $15 mil with incentives.

First, that would have been an odd choice as an injury backup given that Bridgewater missed all of 2016 and a chunk of a 2017 on PUP with a career threatening injury. He threw two balls in 2017; there was no tape on which to evaluate his recovery.

Second, had you signed him to that deal and he had to replace an injured Rodgers, earning most of that $15 mil, you would not have won anything anyway in 2018 and having expended that cap you would not have been able to sign one or two of the free agents brought in this offseason.

Third, what makes you think Bridgewater would have wanted to be in Green Bay backing up Rodgers? When he went to the Jets he was competing with Josh McCown for a starting job.

The Jets then drafted Darnold, and by the conclusion of preseason had settled on him as the week 1 starter. The Jets then traded Bridgewater and 6th. round pick for a 3rd. rounder just before the start of the 2018 season. Had the Packers made that same deal, and Bridgewater played most of the 2018 season because of a Rodgers injury, again you'd have won nothing, and now you're down one or two free agents and Jace Sternberger.

Moving forward to 2019, the Saints re-upped Bridgewater for one year @ $7 mil and two voidable years. He may have extorted a little more money from the Saints by making a visit to Miami at the 11th. hour. Brees is 40 years old on a one year deal with two voidable years. Had it been Miami instead, he would have been competing to start. Bridgewater is getting a nice paycheck with the Saints who in essence have bought an expensive option to move on from Brees after this season.

So, signing Bridgewater to a comparable deal to what the Jets offered in 2018 would have made no sense. You'd be howling right now if Rodgers had been injured, the Packers won nothing, and couldn't manuever in free agency to this degree. Taking on that contract in trade with the Jets would have made less sense, losing that 3rd. round pick.

Bridgewater's $7 mil in cap for 2019 would have been a tough pill to swallow. Subtract one of the free agents. And in all of this, what makes you think Bridgewater would have been interested in backing up the 35 year old Rodgers?

Bridgewater, like many vet QBs with perceived value, want to go where there is a chance to start, now or soon, and get to that next big contract. High backup pay is an expression of stong interest in that QBs future with the team.

So, sign Bridgewater? He would not have been interested at the contract values others offered because he would not have been interested in sitting on the bench for years to come. How much would you have had to offer to change his mind? A lot more than what these teams have been paying him to the detriment of the roster rebuilding process.

Not Taysom Hill again. Please, he's a good athlete that works hard. He's likeable and they found a way to get him some plays. He is NOT their back up QB either. They traded for a gimped up guy that hasn't run around on a football field for anything meaningful in 2 years because he destroyed his knee to be their back up. that should tell you something about Hill's back up QB potential.

and while Wolf drafted a lot of QB's, they were almost exclusively 4th, 5th, 9th etc round picks. Not high picks.

LOL....I know how to get under Mondio's skin... *whispers* "Taysom Hill...Taysom Hill" :D

I won't dredge the whole discussion up again, but I still firmly believe that he was a fish that got away from the Packers, but had he stayed, he may have never seen a snap. So I am happy for the guy.

i like the guy too, i'd be just as happy seeing him do gadget plays here as there. as it stands, he did nothing here that Brett Hundley didn't do against the same level of competition either. People forget they thought Brett was going to land us at least a 2nd rounder in a trade after his rookie year. We're not the best evaluators of talent. He's an athlete, but i've seen nothing from him against competition levels I haven't seen others do too. His gadget plays work because they're gadget plays and run sparingly. Give him 2 games of tape running an offense and I'm guessing the narative around him changes.

Speak for yourself. I never thought that, not even close. I probably took some pains arguing why that was wishful thinking. Some folks were putting that same value on Kizer going into last season. I would have never put that value on him either, again not even close.

If there was a high chance of your QB being injured or out of form, I'd definitely go for Teddy. Kizer is nowhere near to carrying a season and as bad as we were before.

You can't go for Teddy. He's under contract with another team. Oh, you mean last year? Well, answer the points in my post. How would you sign him? How much? What specifically would you forego? How would you pry him away from a better opportunity?

Just throwing names around doesn't necessarily conform to reality.

I never thought he was either, My response in a thread where someone suggested we trade him for Sheldon Richardson, as if it were a real possibility and before he ever took snaps as a starter.
They give up picks in the draft because their evaluation tells them that the player is worth going to get. Nobody was moving up in the 1st or 2nd to get Hundley on draft day. He lasted 5 rounds, which tells me teams didn't think a lot about him coming out of college. He hasn't done much of anything since to prove otherwise either. He had a decent preseason one year, but after watching the likes whoever those guys were, Harrell, Brohm, etc, anyone with anything would look like a pro bowler.

It's been so long since i've seen Hundley play about all I remember is he seemed to be good at extending a play when it broke down too. But it was only for a handful of preseason games. It's never mattered and who knows, maybe he flushes the same way and throws the same pass, but since he was playing against guys that will never play in a regular season game and nobody planned for it, he got away with it. Maybe he's just really good? Nobody knows, and until he does something consistently in the regular season, I don't think he's going to be worth much to anybody else but us.

also when I was speaking for myself sometime in 2016
Hundley was all over, hopefully all the people that were talking trading for 1st round draft picks saw that and can calm down and let the kid develop.

and even later that year people still wanted to Trade Rodgers and move on with Hundley LOL. I think 2017 may have changed their minds on that one :)

I thought trading Rodgers before he signed the extension would have been an interesting proposition depending on how big the basket would be in return. You'd have to reckon that would have been a pretty big basket. But I sure as h*ll would not have contemplated going forward with Hundley as other than a backup. Using a pick received in trade, or a package of picks to move up near the top of the board, for a high value QB prospect would have been part of that equation. $15 - $20+ mil extra cap per year during the duration of that rookie QB contract would have been a gift that kept on giving.

You'd have to strike it rich with the next QB to make it worth it (trading Rodgers before the extension). I don't remember the time frame, but obviously, if we had gotten Mahomes or Watson it would have really worked in our favour. One thing to think of, McCarthy hadn't really developed a decent QB in a while before getting canned. He'd probably still be our head coach as they wait patiently for the next guy up to develop.

It's extremely difficult to develop a backup quarterback with the current CBA extremely limiting practice snaps.

One more significant injury to Rodgers and were the new Buffalo Bills of the NFL.

We are currently living on borrowed time.

If Rodgers goes down Equinimeous St. Brown becomes our #2 WR INSTANTLY! He and Kizer have worked together at ND and been successful. LaFleur was on the staff at ND as well. They'll get through the rest of the game Rodgers goes down in, and then I suspect there may be a voicemail sent to ND Head Coach Brian Kelly post game to find out what worked after LaFleur left and they were playing together more. I think we drop the game we lost Rodgers, and maybe the next game, but this isn't a Brett Hundley situation.

Very optimistic. I'm not sure one college QB/WR combo is enough to make a game changing difference in NFL where they are both relatively not proven to be top caliber.

St. Brown will be top caliber. His attitude and father's attitude got in his way or he would've been a 1st or 2nd rounder. The familiarity between the two can win a game or two while Kizer gets the starters practice reps for a week or two under his belt. We're not in the Brett Favre 1992 situation here, I'm no saying that. I'm saying we're in a better position than we were with Hundley and in a better spot than most think we are. Also I remember Aaron's numbers were kinda sh** too his first couple game experiences with the Packers. (I believe he broke his foot the first time he took the field)

You're being way too optimistic about the outlook for the offense if Rodgers is injured. There's no reason for it based on the backup quarterback having had moderate success with a receiver in college for a single season.
