Surprised no-one has started the weekly game thread yet.

Personally I'm just glad we're back and getting some action. and happy that it's a 6Pm kick of here so no issues getting o work Monday morning.

probably not going to be the most entertaining of games with lack of practice, so I'm just gonna hope we get the basics done right, if we do i think we'll come away with the W in what will probably be a close game, Pack by <6

Upon further thinking, I guess the D line and inside linebackers are a concern also. I think the outside of the D line better contain and that means the inside linebackers better make some tackles.

I guess I am most concerned about R tackle.
Yeah, first on my list is how the OL performs, WRs secondarily. Seeing the QB sacked or flushed makes the WR issue one of scramble drill execution.

It might be the right side of the OL, not just RT. Heck, I heard a report they were giving Jenkins work at RT in practice.

Jenkins at RT was a possibility I posed before they signed Wagner, an idea that was scoffed at. With Covid wrecking camp that killed the idea entirely in my mind. I would expect at this point it's an exploration for an emergency backup if both Wagner and Turner have to sit. In that case, let's suppose Taylor gets the start at RT and he gets injured, then what? Let's see if they bring Light up from the PS.

This game is going to be unwatchable. Almost preseason game 4 2nd 1st half bad. I expect the defense on both sides to dominate. Offenses will round into shape next month. I'll take nothing away from this game if the preceding holds true. The sad part is this one counts for both teams and it goes into the books the same as game 13 will.

Of course every team is in the same boat so all the teams will look a little rusty this week.

Depends on what you're watching for. If you want NFL football with two good teams playing well in a meaningful game, then, well, probably not going to get it.

But if we take this game as it is-- open questions all over, a test of preparation and professional focus, a measure of the overall talent level of the teams-- every play, every personnel decision will be interesting. It'll sure get dissected here on Monday.

At least we don't have to worry about Rodgers getting hurt, because we've got Jordan Love :)

I suggested this very thing at RT for Jenkins..as far as game play for week 1, It's a crap shoot but consider this - theyve had extensive time for prepare for week 1, which could show some quality play..If week 2 - 5 turn into false start dumpster fires league wide, then the argument for the pre-season becomes essential.

The most concerning thing for me due to the lack of preseason sharpening is the technique/gelling of the OL and tackling throughout. Those two items could make it very interesting and even bad maybe.

I expect us to utilize a steady dose of Jones/Williams maybe even Dillon...but I'll say it now my one prediction is Rodgers will hit MVS deep 35 yards or more when MN cheats the box early.

I think MVS has bounce back year after being tossed in the deep end last year...and just being overwhelmed, I think as clearly disappointed as Rodgers is we didn't draft anyone and Funchess stepping down, he really seems to be high on MVS and EQ....the way he speaks on them isn't a QB just saying the right things.

Honestly, listen to how he speaks of them vs Lazard when brought up. I think he clearly sees more in them vs Lazard even.

Going to be interesting to watch the right side of the line; I'm guessing they move Jenkins to RT and a backup at RG.

I'd not really call Lane a "backup" if he hadn't gotten hurt last year Jenkins may very well still be a relatively unknown commodity.

Well, I'm certainly prepared for something like a 13-10 final score.

I admit with the whole pandemic and all, the usual amped up feeling has been less this year than usual. But some football even if like this at least feels better than no football.

It will be weird though hearing the QB making loud signal calls with no crowd noise though. And on the bright side, won't be any of that dumb fake skol word chants or horn blowing.

If I'm not mistaken you may still hear skol and such, just have to keep it under a certain decibel rating.

He's not the starter, if you wouldn't call him a backup, then what would you call him? "Almost-starter"?

The direction of my post was more to the dissimive sentiment when calling Lane a backup just isn't fitting very well for him. Yes, he is technically a backup by depth, but I'd be vastly more worried about our 3rd "backup" sliding to RT, than our 2nd "backup" reclaiming his starting job at guard for a game.

Vikes open as three-point favorites. If we can't contain Cook, despite having all offseason to prepare for him, this may be a long season.

Still trying to figure out why the Vikings are favorites. The Packers beat them twice last year. The Vikings lost their number one wr from last year and replaced him with a rookie. They lost their top 3 cbs and replaced them with rookies and backups. Their oline lost one of its starters and was really bad before that. They got a good player from the Jags but he is replaces Everson Griffin who graded out higher than him last year. Their interior dline lost Linval Joseph and replaced him with no one. We are worried about our run defense but their interior is much weaker than ours.

They are trusting a ton of rookies to play and they didnt get preseason. On paper they are weak at OL, DT, CB, and WR outside Theilen.
