What do you guys think about the Tyreek Hill incident with police before the game?
I just watched the bodycam video. I don't think that the officer did anything wrong until he physically pulled Tyreek out of the car. He knocked on the window normally. He asked Tyreek to keep the window down, which especially with tinted windows, is a safety concern. When Tyreek refused to keep the window down and then refused to leave the vehicle as well, things escalated quickly. I don't know what is legal or not, but I would think that the officer should have merely opened the door and then repeated his demand to leave the vehicle instead of physically removing him from the vehicle and pinning Tyreek on the ground. All-in-all both individuals should have done things differently, but the problem absolutely started with Tyreek. He was combative about innocent window knocks and non-compliant with reasonable requests from the officer. On the other hand, the officer could have used more de-escalating techniques. He is not required to do so, but it is in everyone's interest to be calm when possible.
What I thought got a bit out of hand was when the Dolphins teammates arrived. The officer was immediately aggressive with those players. I certainly understand how he could feel threatened by unknown others trying to intervene in a police situation. You never know the intentions of new people and the officers may have felt surrounded. Again, I think that there are ways to de-escalate but the officer escalated.
They both bear equal blame for the incident.
