Now all of this is obviously just speculation. They could be re-checking a medical and decide everything is fine and draft that guy or they could be checking up on character reports and feel comfortable with them and draft that guy or someone I see as a UDFA type might actually be a late round draft pick. But if I had to say which guys are actually most likely to be picked out of their visits, I would say..

Amazing work, as usual, but leaves me with a question.... how does pre-draft UDFA recruitment work? Are they bringing these guys in to make a good impression on them, sell them on the team and the facilities, and actively try to persuade them to sign after the draft? Are conditional agreements actually reached, as in "we think it's unlikely you'll be drafted, and if you're not, we definitely want to sign you and bring you in to mini-camp"?

Or is that even legal? Is it more like, "we have a strong interest in you, and if you're not drafted, make sure you're near your phone"?

Packers had a Virtual Visit with BYU OL Caleb Etienne. 6'6.5" 329lbs. Considered a developmental prospect, who could possibly be drafted late Day 3 or will be an UDFA. 9.23 RAS

Here is my dilemma. I think that if Josh Simmons doesn't get injured last season, he is the first OT taken. So if he passes the physical 100%, he goes before #23. So I have to hope he is only at 80% or something (but has a 99%chance of healing to 100%) so he makes it to 23. The Packers have the luxury of waiting a year with him before he needs to play.

I'm thinking DE is a smokescreen, but I could see them taking Stewart. They drafted Gary when they just spent on 2 FAs starters afterall.

Totally. I wouldn’t rule out and of the medical re-checks. My point is that if they have a guy in who has been healthy and doesn’t have off field stuff, the odds of genuine interest seem higher to me.

I can totally see the plan in drafting Simmons and stashing him. It’s nerve-racking though, because a patellar tendon is the kind of thing where a guy could get back to being healthy but never move quite the same way again.

Yeah, it's a tough call when you don't have the doctors opinion. There are 7 or 8 bluechip players in this draft, like most drafts. This is a shot at one who belongs in that category, if healthy. I agree with many of your points in this thread, and appreciate you laying all this out there. But bringing them in for a medical, IMHO, is genuine interest. If Simmons is their true objective at 23, they would want to look at that knee one last time. As well as, their actual target may be someone they have show little interest in publicly. I have a feeling we are going to have some low scores in the draft contest this year.

This is a yr that you could get away with that, as I feel there are only 2 positions where there is a realistic opportunity for a rookie winning a starting spot, game 1 of the season. ( DT, TJ Slaton's replacement, & WR, Christian Watson's injury) Those two positions could definitely be filled with a day 1 starter, in Rds 2 & 3. Then in 2026, if you let Walker go in FA, maybe sign Rhyan to backup at G/C, or let him test FA too, the OL could look like:

Selecting OL in the first round isn't sexy, nor is it popular with a lot of fans. However, looking at the Packers potential OL Free Agents in 2026, selecting a player like Simmons would make sense.

It’s pretty well know that the Packers draft a lot of their top 30 visits, that they like Senior Bowlers, and that they prefer 8.0+ RAS.

If you cross reference all those factors, you get two names:

-Tai Felton, WR, Maryland

-Anthony Belton, OL, NCSU

Added intrigue with Belton: our Pass Game Coordinator, Jason Vrable, was his OC at the Sr Bowl.

Belton is bigger than their norm, but his agilities hit their normal thresholds.

Yeah, with the injury he had, he could potentially end up in the 2nd. Some guys just don't want to take that chance, while others would take it as motivation.

Exactly. From what I’ve read in just limited looks at his $, because I don’t want to make it ALL about the $$ because there are other factors.

Let’s say he makes a $1mil today (600K NIL + endorsements). Nobody knows exactly ive hunted around but it’s estimated he’s drawing over $1m in college. Peanuts compared to Manning or Sanders but still significant.
Then let’s say he regains health and goes #7or #12 or #16 overall etc. That’s a massive swing up into that $15-25mil contract alone. Verses maybe slipping into a $1.5-$2.5mil yearly etc. which is higher than his $1m current, but not enough to get excited. A year goes by so fast and if he’s smart with his body he can pick up $10-20mil for being patient.
