The Packers hit the mark set for them by coach Mike McCarthy of getting off to a fast start to the 2015 season by going 6-0 in the first six games of the year. While there is plenty to be concerned about despite the record the team is very well positioned now to make its franchise record seventh consecutive playoff season and fifth straight division title winning year.
More to the point of the current season they are in prime position to win home field advantage for the NFC playoffs in January, regarded by most as crucial to their hopes of getting back to the Super Bowl after four straight seasons of playoff elimination.
So what are the strategic goals for the next six games? No one seriously expects the Packers or any one else in the league to go 16-0. The Packers could win either, neither or both of the next two marquee matches with fellow NFL unbeatens Denver and Carolina. But almost as important as the wins or losses will be the team's injury situation.
Getting injured guys back in action and not adding to the injury lists will be the thing that perhaps will matter most about these two games. The really critical ones will be the four games against NFC North rivals that will follow the rest of the month.
If the Packers are at maximum personnel strength for those games they could sweep all four of those games and have all but cinched the division title with plenty of room to spare; unlike the past two years when they've had to go down to the final game to win it.
Assuming a "worst case"scenario of the Packers losing tonight at Denver and next week at Carolina, if they win the four divisional games they will still be sitting pretty at 10-2 entering December.
