Its definitely one of the best whiskys I've ever had so far. Has a smoky and fruity flavour, great Whisky. Its one of several Whiskys that I tried during my recent Scotland trip when visiting this great place:
http://thepotstill.co.uk/
Also tried the Bowmore 18 (even more smoke) and Ardberg Uigedahl. But regarding smoky Whiskys I'm still a
beginner ;)
So IPA is not your cup of Tea, scotscheese ? Or just the Punk IPA ? Ever had any other IPA ?
Personally I think the best IPA I ever had is the Sculpin by Ballast Point. Try this next time to have a good comparision, they have it on tap at the Brewdog Pub in Aberdeen. ;)

Kudos to you for trying the Brew Dog biers, especially the IPA. A little bitter yeah? :)

Out of the clear blue western skies...
I have been reading these whiskey missives with great curiosity and admiration. My first encounter with this particular libation occurred almost 50 years ago when the folks were out of the house one evening. The bottle was a gift from an older friend. My mistake was to consume a fifth in a little more than an hour. Other than a small sip of Dad's beer here and there, I had never before been introduced to any alcoholic beverages. In a short time the room spun like a top, right-up until the time the whiskey made an encore appearance on the floor of my folk's bathroom. I was too disoriented to hit my target, even on my hands and knees. Dismiss this tragic incident to a neophyte's poor judgment, youth and utter inexperience. A lot of whiskey went to waste that day.

First impressions can be everlasting ones as I have discovered. Since that fateful day I get nauseous at the slightest whiff of whiskey. To me, you fellows must have stomachs like coyotes.

This, my friends, is precisely what is responsible for my whiskey aversion:

Had a similar issue with vodka. One bad experience and I haven't been able to touch the stuff since.

i know i'm being pedantic, i can't help it sometimes. but this is whisky, whiskey only applies to Irish and American whiskies. this is a blend anyway, so not very good IMO, though i know some people who prefer blends. go for a malt, drink/sip it over a wee while, you may find you enjoy it;)

A whole fifth? You were very fortunate you didn't die from alcohol poisoning. But when we are young we think we are indestructible. I broke up with a girl once and then went to a kegger. Instead of drinking the beer from a glass, I started drinking straight from the pitcher, one right after another. By brother and his best friend, fortunately, looked after me and dragged me up and down the street a good portion of the night to keep me from going into an alcoholic coma. I remember falling over into my own vomit and having my brother pick me up under the arms and help me; not real attractive. I never did that again. Now, I try to emphasize moderation.

It would not have mattered what it was. I did not sip it for taste. Youth (and good whiskey) are wasted on the young.

Most of it ended up on my folk's bathroom floor. The floor was just fine after a good scrubbing. Better than me at least a day or two earlier, especially my head.

nice, not a huge fan of islay/island whiskies, as i prefer the smooth fruitiness of a speyside, but do like to try them now and again for a change.

i actually found the IPA to be a bit fruity, but in an unusual way, not sure really how to describe it any more than that. in my old age(35) i've kind of moved away from lagers in pubs to drinking "best". smoother and not as gassy as lager. i have tried some bottled micro-brewery style beers, but i'm a cheap bastard and find them overpriced

Citrusy. The hops used in most IPA's are citrusy in flavor... so it's kinda fruity from that standpoint.
