Any updates on Jake Ryan? Or if Barrington plays vs Oakland Thursday? Martinez needs way more snaps than he had vs Cleveland, hopefully we see a good chunk of him also Thursday.

I'm less worried now after the first playoff game about Barrington and the ILB group. Bradford had a very good B+/A- game, and Thomas was a B player as well. Concerned more that Ryan is battling a hammy now, than Barrington.

That's easy to say when looking at one position group in isolation. But when you start talking about possibly 7 WRs, 7 OLBs, and possibly 9 O-Linemen, something's got to give somewhere. Stealing a spot from the safety group only goes so far...it's how the Packers got to 6 WRs in the first place.

I suppose they could pick up a spot if they had second thoughts about Lane Taylor and cut him, which would hardly be a crime, or reckoned they could sneak Murphy on the PS, or cut Elliott, or cut one out of the Adams/Abbrederis/Janis/Davis group.

I'm sure many would protest most or all of those moves, without actually figuring out where that roster spot is supposed to come from.

If Bradford's a special teams stud, and somebody goes to IR at one of those overloaded position groups, then a stronger case can be made. Otherwise, PS would be his likely landing spot.

The Packers will most likely gain two additional roster spots compared to last season by only carrying two quartersback and a single fullback. With Goodson suspended for the first four games I don't expect the team to keep seven cornerbacks either. I agree there won't be room for seven wide receivers and 11 linebackers though.

With the linebacker injuries piling up in Buffalo and elsewhere I wouldn't bank on any of our "castoffs" making it back onto the PS.

I don't expect any of the Packers inside linebackers castoffs to garner a lot of interest from other teams.

We will see the last of Goodson after final cuts this season. It may not even take until the final round.

There's no reason for the Packers to release Goodson before the end of his suspension. He won't count against the roster limit during these four games and can be cut after serving his ban without any repercussions.

Any idea who will start at ILB for us tomorrow? I'd like to see Ryan and Barrington in there. Just for a series or 2. To get an idea what our starters look like. Then it would be nice to see Martinez and Bradford for extended time. I was hoping to see Martinez cover Barnidge last week but Hyde and Thomas did. This week would be good test for Martinez vs Oakland to cover Rivera or Walford!

Ryan isn't expected to play tonight but it seems like Barrington will return to action. I would like to see Martinez getting more snaps than vs. the Browns and prove he's capable of making tackles against running backs.

Is the hamstring still keeping Ryan out? If so hopefully we see Martinez next to Barrington to start the game.

The hammy that really worries me is Linsley. Four weeks and counting.

Actually Linsley first injured his hamstring in mid-May and according to him he had a minor setback trying to recover from it. With him not having practiced because of it for three months there's reason to be concerned.

Tretter should have a new contract offer in front of him in 3...2...1... If any team is going to pay him starter $$ in FA it might as well be TT, right?

There's no reason for the Packers to offer starter money to a backup.

What about now since he's been deemed the starter.
He shouldn't be re-signed...unless he's going to be an OG next season.

He's a pretty good center. Somebody will want to pay him. Linsley will have one more cheap year in 2017.

You have to look at the entire cap picture and the list of pending free agents. Otherwise it's just whack-a-mole every time one of the pending FAs does something worth noting or his pending replacement stinks it up.

After Spriggs got lit up by Mack, Packer Nation has Bakhtiari already signed for what will likely be $7 - $8 mil. I wouldn't bet on that either.

The situation is perfect for Tretter to add to his resume for teams looking for a center. Linsley is our center when healthy. But Tretter could make some nice buckaroos if he plays excellent, which he's capable of. This is excellent we have a backup center with little or no drop off from our starter. Very good situation for Tretter for sure though.

It's strange that you seem to understand that re-signing Tretter would be a waste of cap space with Linsley being able to step in yet don't realize it's the same situation as with Bakhtiari and Spriggs.

It might work out IF, and I stress IF, Linsley can slide over to one of the guard positions. Was a small thought experiment I proposed earlier. I didn't really think it'd happen, but then Linsley went and tweaked his hammy and suddenly it looks possible. IF that works out, I would assume that Lang and Sitton are both gone.

Now resigning Bhak is at least a consideration. Spriggs could be your swing tackle for a couple of years. Or Spriggs and Bhak are your bookends for a long time. Probably not, as neither looks like the ideal run blocking RT, but, eh, we can dream.

There's a possibility both Sitton and Lang won't be back in 2017. With a lack of quality depth currently at the guard position it wouldn't be ideal though. It's questionable if Linsley, who played center in college as well, is a fit to play guard.

Don't get me wrong without a hard salary cap in place I would be all in favor of re-signing Bakhtiari. But because of limited cap space available next offseason and Spriggs hopefully proving to be a decent replacement he seems to expendable.

No argument there, some people aren't coming back next year. Just doesn't seem like TT's MO to let the kids walk and keep the old guard (Bhak and Tretter vs. Lang and Sitton.) Bhak's presumably huge contract not withstanding.

Agreed, but if one is forced (or is convinced that) Tretter and Linsley must start at two of the interior spots, I'd like to see if Linsley CAN do it. His build and his strengths are more suited to guard than Tretter's are.

In most instances I would agree with your point of view about Thompson holding on to younger players but if the coaching staff feels confident about Spriggs being capable of adequately replacing Bakhtiari the general manager might lean in a different direction.

There's no doubt Linsley would be better suited to line up at guard than Tretter.
