Recently heard a talking head on TV say that comparing Rodgers to Brady is inaccurate and that Brady is on his own at the top, while the comparison in reality is between Rodgers and Drew Brees. Initially the fan in me wanted to disagree, but I had to pause and think about that. What are your thoughts?

If the talking head (probably Cowherd) is speaking specifically to accomplishments, then whatever. I'll give it to him. No quarterback in Brady's era comes anywhere in the area code with him in terms of accomplishments (5 rings in a 8 appearances, most playoff wins ever, etc.)

If we quit being narrow minded and actually compare the skill sets of these quarterbacks, it's not even close. Rodgers and Brees are both clearly supremely talented to that of Brady.

But try putting Brady in place of Rodgers in the system he operates, and put Rodgers in the Belichick system, and see how that would change the narrative.

Bottom line for me: there's a difference in being the most accomplished (Brady), which is actually more of a credit to long term team/franchise success, and the most talented quarterback package. That's Rodgers.

Drop both quarterbacks in an exactly similar situation, and Rodgers comes out on top.

We just need to look at Brady's comments about Rodgers (such as saying Rodgers would throw for 7000 yards every season if he played for Belichick).

I agree Brees should be in the conversation more with Rodgers and Brady.

How much of his comments were him actually believing that or just trying to be a nice guy to Rodgers?

They're all pretty darn good. They'll all be in the HOF.

If Goff or Wentz or Mahomes wins the SB this season the chattering class will start declaring a changing of the guard. If 2 of the 3 meet in the SB, consider that chattering a foregone conclusion.

Otto Graham was the greatest of all time 60 years ago.

Then it was Unitas. Then it was Montana. Then briefly it was Peyton Manning. Now it's Brady.

If Brees wins a couple more SBs with his monster stats ever-growing, or if Rodgers wins 2 more as Brady starts slipping from memory in retirement, then the GOAT de jeur might shuffle.

You'll hear mumblings now that Montana was a system QB lacking a strong arm, that it was more about Walsh. That's unfortuante and unfair, but it doesn't stop it from happening. Will Brady befall that fate 10 or 20 or 30 years from now, that it was more a function of Belichick?

15 or 20 or 50 years from now it will be somebody else, and eventually somebody who is not even born yet. Recent memory is always overweighted.

Otto Graham may still be the GOAT but most people alive today never saw him play (I didn't) and many younger fans and commentators might say, "who's that?" or discount him as a player in some slower antique game. Jim Brown? Same.

Jim Thorpe may be the greatest athlete of the last 100+ years but who remembers him? Nobody because all the people who saw the GAOAT are dead and the mythology fades over time.

Legacy is a funny thing. It has a decaying half life in popular memory. And in the "who's best today" argument, it's one guy today and somebody else next month or next year.

This is a bit off track, but I do not believe the Packers will win another Super Bowl with Rodgers. I feel like we have always been #2 in the NFC (until now which puts us further down the list :/ )
After we won in 2010, others teams lapped us. First it was the 49ers that jumped us. Then when they fell off the Seahawks jumped us. Then when they finally started slipping, the Falcons jumped us. During that stretch we never got worse, but other teams got better. We stayed EXACTLY where we were. And now where are we? It seemed like every time we felt that it was finally the Packers turn cause X team got worse, another took our place. Now we are in a rough place with a team who without Rodgers would be roughly the Bills.

Actually the problem is not that other teams got better and we stayed the same, it is that we got worse. There is no comparison between 2010 defense and everything after. We are massively worse defensively than we were in 2010. And if we are being honest with ourselves, the offense has paled in comparison between what we saw end of 2010 and regular season 2011.

So basically ya, we have not stayed close to the same we have gotten worse all around.

I tried my best to not sound completely pessimistic :(

and what you'll notice is everyone that has "jumped us" most of them have not won more, sustained winning longer or come close to what GB has. Look at the Saints? they had multiple loosing seasons, IN A ROW, and now they look like a super bowl favorite. Brees didn't leave and come back. Now all of a sudden people want to compare him to Rodgers and Brady. We are getting rid of some old contracts and players, we are building with new ones. We had a really good draft last year, we need another one and we're right back into the thick of it. Heck, if they'd quit shooting themselves int he foot so much THIS year we'd back in the thick of it.

Its all good HRE but "Greatest Of All Time of the day" is destined to be a classic. Until something else replaces it of course.

I'm beginning to lean toward feeling this way. It may just be frustration, but the rest of the team aside, I'm not sure I am confident that Rodgers is going to be able to remain healthy for long stretches of time. However, we are very early into the current eras of our new GM, our new DC, and our new (old) OC. Plus it's very early in the season, and the team tends to start slow anyway. There's as good a chance that things will improve significantly, as there is that they will remain stagnant.

We need to get back to dominating the division again, when right now we are not.

I'm just going to watch and find out. Long seasons, so much happens from week to week, let alone season to season. If we have a draft next year like this, we're going to be in great shape. Of course it will take some injury luck, but that's true for everyone. This team isn't that far off. They have mistakes to clean up, but most of them are self inflicted right now and they have shown they're able to clean those up in the past. I see no reason why they won't again. It's funny how quickly people think Rodgers forgets how to play QB, or that MM can't coach a team. Philbin was god's gift to offense a few months ago and now people want a new one LOL . Fans are Fickle to say the least.
