I had a feeling this thread would get nutty quick....and it did over night!

"I don’t think it will be (a long-term thing)," Cobb said on Packers.com. "We’re just taking it day by day right now. We’ll find out more tomorrow."

What I read from this is that the team physicians are likely waiting for swelling to go down, a common practice before re-examining and then making an official pronouncement.

actually you don't. Doctor/patient stuff doesn't apply the same when it involves players being paid and the teams that are paying them. The team can release whatever it likes about an injury. Usually they have protocols they will follow so everyone is on the same page and team doctors do have a right to examine players for obvious reasons. But if Cobb were to forgo the team doc and go see a private doc then the rules are the same as they are for you and I, nothing can be released unless he says so. Or at least that's how it is supposed to go

But either way, I don't care that he played in a preseason game, sit all the starters all preseason, tell me how the first month goes. There's a reason September football doesn't look like November football, or even October and week 5 is usually much better than week 1. And I don't care they haven't told me every detail of the injury yet, it happened like 12 hours ago, go to bed, make some breakfast, take the dog for a walk, do something to pass the time till you know :)
I am talking in 1st 24 hours

According to a source Cobb had an MRI done today and it revealed he has an AC joint sprain. Minor injury but no word on his availability for week 1.

R E L A X! Even if Cobb is ready to play the first game, we can afford to give him the day off. Why? Because the bears still suck! And we will have one of our greatest qb playing, Jay Cutler... We are 11-1 with Cutler as qb and there is no reason to believe he wont get us the 12th win.. Like has been said before when it is all said and done the greatest qb to play for the Packers will be Starr, Favre, Rodger and Jay Cutler.

Recall Cobb and his broken leg? He was very very secretive then as well.

“Did I break a bone?” Cobb said.

Since it’s his leg, Cobb was asked then if he did indeed break a bone.

“That’s the reports. I don’t know,” Cobb said in what would turn into something of a Who’s On First back-and-forth. “A broken bone, I don’t know about that. But hey, that was what the reports was so it is what it is.”

Asked if reports were then inaccurate, Cobb replied, “It wasn’t what (the injury) was.” But when pressed on what the injury actually was, Cobb said, “As long as I know what’s wrong with me, the doctors and my family know what’s wrong with me, I don’t really care what anybody else says or thinks.”

As I stated few posts back, just because it wasnt announced as fast as people want, it might be he wanted to tell his family 1st before it went into the media.

That might be true and all, and maybe GB is offering him that latitude. I was just commenting on that if a team doctor finds something out, and the team wants to release it, they can. There is no doctor patient confidentiality implied. Many teams at different levels have things spelled out what information they'd protect and what they will release to the public, but if a guy is injured on the football field, there is nothing stopping a team from telling us what it is from a legal standpoint, the second they find out.

It's different if he goes to see his own doctors, there the confidentiality is implied and binding.

That said, I don't care when they release it or if they do. I hope he gets well quickly for all sorts of reasons, but I really don't need to know anything and I'll find out if he's playing on game day.

I was listening to Bears radio Saturday and several times as they talked about their D, they expressed concern about the play of their DBs against Rodgers in the opener. If you need a sense of perspective, listening to local talk show hosts talk about teams like the Bears can do the trick.

And it was either on that show or ESPN's NFL preview later where I heard someone suggest the Eagles might blow out the Packers to avenge the *** kicking they got at Lambeau last season. We can pretend the first half performance was due to all their extra motivation and not the flat, crappy play of the D, right?

Cobb should skip the first game not because the Bears suck but that he needs to take it easy and make sure the shoulder is 100 percent before playing again. Losing both Cobb and Nelson would be check mate season over. The primary objective visits make sure that does not happen

I'm not qualified to make a medical determination on whether Cobb should or shouldn't play Week 1, but I'm comfortable still going into the game if he doesn't. I'm more concerned about his Week 2 availability.

Although it is the Bears, it's still a division game AND on the road. We need to improve our "away" games record this year. If Cobb is able to suit up, he's should be held to a minimal number of snaps (1/2 of typical) in order to keep him conditioned but fresh for Our Home opener Conference rematch

As an athletic trainer, shoulder sprains can be week to week. I obviously and unfortunately have not tested him, but this is what I can say: If he falls on an outstretched hand there is a chance he could separate it, but the odds of that does not increase much more than with a healthy shoulder. Right now he has full mobility, it just may be painful and thus weak (in response to the pain). If he falls on an outstretched hand, the pain could worsen and last longer. As a Packer's fan, I would like to see him sit or be very limited week 1. That way he should be 100% by Seattle.
