Ninth Defense:

Collective "bend but don't break" effort out there.

Ento quietly having a nice game if you disregard the interception.

Jean-Charles looks rough, but he's hanging in there.

When you take Slaton out....BIG DIFFERENCE. Howell is just running right at them.

Ninth Possession:

If Benkert had somebody other than Funchess to throw to, he might look like a QB1 out there.

Patrick Taylor has some burst to him.

Begelton needs to show us something if he's going to stick around another year.

Problem is I suspect by now Houston has most of their third wheel guys out there as well.

Now if on the off chance we carry 3 QBs again this year, Benekert might be handy to keep in that 3rd spot. If not, he'll hopefully be on the PR. We don't know yet though if he's a second Matt Flynn or just another Joe Callahan.

Tenth Defense:

No Slaton? No problem for opposing RBs.

Jean-Charles finding his way; he looked good on that drive and finished it with a pass defense on Coutee. He needs to consistently demonstrate in the slot that he can handle speedy WRs.

Tenth Possession:

I'm not understanding the hesitation to allow Benkert to throw it downfield.

RBs haven't been doing anything all game, 20 yds rushing.

Eleventh Defense:

Team defense prevails. No Slaton still a problem.

Maybe Jackson can make it as a PR.

Eleventh Possession:

Subtle changes in the OL starting to show now.

The 3s and 4s can't compete with Houston. Benkert can only do so much.

I'm surprised Rodgers hasn't made the impact I thought he would. Guess we'll have to be patient.

They don't have many rookie OL (1). They made our guys look not so good some times. But preseason...

Twelfth Possession:

I wanna get excited for Dexter, lets see if he can do that in the first half against better competition. Happy to see him get going a little though.

Bad decision by Benkert. He should have tried to avoid a sack and just get 2-3 yards.

Lovey is showing a lot against a young OL. That was a safety blitz that followed a delayed zone blitz.

Thirteenth Defense:

Houston just padding their rushing stats now. Is either team really throwing the ball well?

Well I'd say that'll probably about do it for tonight

So as to the things to grade ...

Jordan Love - well he wasn't great but he wasn't too bad either. This was the first meaningful action he saw and I thought he did alright considering that. As Gute said, he's got a ways to go but I actually have a pretty good feeling about him. Just needs more time to develop.

Josh Jackson - I think he needs to be cut by the final deadline. Man isn't a rookie anymore and I just feel like at this point we've seen the best that we're going to see out of him.

Jace Sternberger definitely stays at TE2. Especially since Deguara did nothing tonight.

Burks - stay healthy and I think our front 7 could be very good this year

OL - the run blocking must get better
