I thought there was a good change it was going to be called a touchback too, but it didn't matter. The Colts kicked their *** all game long

The Eagles didn't bet the Bears, the Bears bet themselves.

I didn't like the Bears, but you got to admit, they got the talent invested in playmakers
to have the right to play in the Super Bowl.
Regardless on how far the Packers will improve next season, I'll predict the Bears winning the division again next year.

The Bears are still what they were, good defense and special teams. They completed a couple long passes to make it interesting. Early on the Eagles didn't help themselves out either. Other than a missed kick, the Bears played relatively mistake free. Had a unsportsmanlike for blow to head on defensless guy, but it was the absolute correct call.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't care one way or another. But if the Bears getting bounced in the Wild Card round ends the Mack envy, then that will be a positive.

So, the Bears now have no 1st. round picks in the next 2 years, The have $174 mil in cap committed to guys currently under contract for 2019 (including $22.3 mil for Mack), and that does not include Massie, Amos and Callahan who are free agents. Oh, there are guys they could cut to pick up some cap like Dion Simms, but they're not going to be working with much capital for awhile. And they need offensive upgrades to get more points on the board. If all they were looking for was "get to the playoffs and see what happens", then they accomplished that goal. That would not be my goal.

So, in the Wild Card round we had 3 QBs in their first playoff rodeos: Watson, Jackson and Trubiski. They all lost. That's the rule, and a pretty firm one, with few exceptions. Who was the last QB who won a SB in his first year making the playoffs as a starter? Brady. Before that? I can't think of one.

There's one left in this category: Mahomes. Will he be the exception? I doubt it. The playoffs are an entirely different animal.

You got that right.
I always refer to the play-off as entering the 2nd. season.

Some teams shouldn't be there and others are unstoppable if they can avoid injury's, stupid penalties,
and lucky to have good coaches to put together the correct game plan.

That was pretty much my thinking, I thought Russel Wilson and the Seahawks would beat the Cowboys. Losing their kicker was quite the disaster, you'd think somebody on the team could fill in better.

Glad the Bears lost but I felt bad for their kicker.

A lot of defense in the playoffs so far, makes me wonder if we should get a defensive minded coach. But I really want to bring back an elite offense to GB. You know, the one that TT piddled away.

I'm always confused:
If defense wins games, way are all the teams looking for offensive minded HC...…??

We'll see if that trend continues next week when the bye teams come into the picture.
But the rules increasingly favor the offense these days.

They say defense wins championships (well, they used to say it more often than they do now). But then why is it so important to have an elite quarterback?
Now days though, the salary cap has artificially affected the game. It might be better now to have a good, cheap quarterback.

I might be more open to a defensive minded coach if Ray Rhodes hadn't been such a disaster.

My all road teams prediction nearly came to fruition. Damn Seahawks blew it. And losing their kicker hurt as well.

Just an uneducated opinion but I think it might be easier for an offensive minded HC to hire a good/great DC and leave him alone to do his job than it would be for a defensive minded HC to hire a good/great OC and keep from meddling. I don't know why I think that I just think it might be human nature. Offense gets all the glory so as the HC you want your stamp on it even though it may not be your strength.

Also, it seems that the bright young up and coming OCs get snapped up before the the DCs do. OCs have one great year and they are in the running for a HC job DCs seem to take a few years for teams to go "Hm, maybe he'd be a good HC. The good DCs get to hang around for a few years to become great ones.

Maybe it comes down to money. Defense wins games but offense puts money in the bank. Yeah winning games puts money in the bank too but its easier if its your offense that's doing the winning.

Prediction wise I'm 1-3 (got the Chargers right)

When the playoffs start (or as soon as the Packers are out) the way I look at it is of the teams left who would I not mind see winning it all and who would I not want to see win it all. One of the biggest factors for me is I look for players who I would like to see get a ring. Usually its an old timer who I really like which is why the Cardinals (Larry Fitzgerald) have been my second NFC choice every year to start the season. This year with who is left I'd have to say Gates and Rivers so I'm pulling for the Chargers.

for this year

Wouldn't mind
Rams
Saints
Bears
Texans

Chiefs
Colts
Chargers
Ravens

Don't want
Seahawks
Eagles

No way in hell or on God's green earth or anywhere else at any time unless they are playing the vikings.

Patriots
cowboys

Still in my favor but its been narrowed down. If things go bad for me this weekend I'm in rough shape.
