Ford IR-return designation
King PS
DuBose Miami 53 from waivers
AJ jr Giants 53 from waivers
I'm a little surprised and disappointed they lost DuBose. I didn't follow PS that closely, but just seemed from reporting he was doing well. Who did they keep to waive DuBose? Thanks if anyone knows, and thanks Poppa for the update.

I think only 2 of these guys are currently on the 53. Did any of them get signed for the Pack practice squad?
Gutenkunst has done so good with WRs that DuBose was the odd man out. The same happened with safeties this season in terms of Johnson Jr. There is a reason those two guys were immediately snapped up onto other team's 53-man rosters. It shouldn't be thought of as a negative for Gutenkunst's drafting in the 7th, but an affirmation.

Heath outplayed DuBose. It's no slight on DuBose but he just wasn't as good. Add in the facts about Heath's size and ability to play special teams, and you've got the reason that DuBose didn't make the roster. The Packers were surely hoping that he would slide back onto the practice squad, but they couldn't and shouldn't have made the effort at such a stocked position.

Thanks EG. And it's consistent with your earlier comment. Guys who are waived and get picked up are good draft picks. It just means there are better players ahead of them and still with the Packers, like Heath.

Great article. I'll still give all the credit to Wolf for doing the unthinkable/unbelievable, not once, but twice. I'm referring to the trade for Favre (which no one in Packerland understood at the time, well, almost no one), and then somehow convincing Reggie White, he who could go anywhere at any price he wanted, that lil ol Green Bay, WI was the place to be.

I admit I wasn't a TT fan, and that was misplaced (RIP Ted). Ted was the guy who started this whole "roster within a roster" thing by drafting Rodgers. I hated the Rodgers pick. (OK, I hated the Love pick too.)

I lived in Nor Cal in 2008 and worked in SF. I saw a lot of Rodgers play at Cal. To me, he had terrible form. On a drop back, he held the ball right up against his helmet. It got results in college, but he didn't look anything like an NFL QB to me. Same with Love for different reasons.

TT's brilliance of course, and Gluten's, was taking these guys to study under future HOF QBs. That resulted in two SBs and a whole lot of wins and incredible entertaining games. And will Love provide a 3rd Lombardi (or more, we're greedy)? Who knows but it sure looks pretty good right now.

(And to complete the picture, Wolf, TT and Gluten were/are all very good team builders. Like a lot of others, I eventually wanted more than two SBs between Rodgers and Love. But the GMs drafted, developed, and acquired the right guys a lot. We've are on a continuing 30 yard run. It takes an elite QB to win in the NFL. It also takes a fair amount of talent around him. And these GMs have, for the most part, delivered.)

Thanks again Pike. Great article.

Well you're ahead of me because I don't recall ever watching Rodgers play in college and I know the first I ever saw of Love was in the film I saw of him the day after we drafted him. Then I completely understood why we chose him. He was making elite NFL QB throws into narrow windows while on the move to his left on some of those plays and it shocked me and that was in his 2018 season I believe. It was an easy decision in retrospect imo.

My observations of Rodgers at Cal were very limited. A lot of people thought he would go #1 overall. I never did watch film of Love in college so thanks for that perspective.
