Lol the same draft 3 out of the last 4 drafts. And you wonder why Aaron Rodgers has only been to the promise land once<eyeroll> at least this time I think the dumb ***** in the front office got it right w/ the CBs! I keep forgetting that our pack finally has a new D coach so things should be better w/ Pettine. Still major holes at G, SpeedWR needed, pass rusher, TE. Don’t think this draft alone will cover all of it. But as always the brass has the right arm of AR, though bringing back Joe Philbin will help the Offense out immensely.

House: $90,000 signing bonus is the only dead cap
Williams: $3.25 mil dead cap

Willilams isn't going anywhere except maybe the bench and dime. Starting positions will be competitive. King better bring some game we have not seen yet.
Williams was brought on as a player/coach for the young guys because he has experience playing for Pettine in Cleveland. Good move! Tramons a good dude & still has a bit to offer on the field! Finished strong w/ cardinals last season.

As far as depth goes, I'd go Williams, Alexander, Jackson, King. I'd let House, Pipkins, and maybe Hawkins battle it out for the 5th and maybe 6th spot if there is one available.
Given the list I hope Williams is beat out and is third or fourth and not given the one slot because he's the best.

If on Wednesday I had told you that the Packers would come out of rounds 1 and 2 with Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, and an extra 1st round pick next year, what would you have said?

Heh, I'd have said I'll have whatever you're drinking.

I don't understand why people get so mad that the Packers are taking DB's high.

I mean, on a visceral level I get it, I guess. People are bored with it.

But I don't understand why these picks would make posters mad just because TT screwed up when he took Randall and Rollins. Because that's what this is about-- the 2015 draft. But how does it make sense that because the previous GM messed up, we shouldn't address a glaring issue with legit talent? Are they supposed to ignore it and just allow it to remain an achilles heel?

Not soon enough.
Don't worry, it'll only feel like a couple of eons.
In the mean time we'll be able to track every report of a splash play in underwear during camp that may or may not show up on the field. It's an annual ritual.

TT screwed up when he took Randall and Rollins.
He took Randall, a safety, and tried to make him a CB, and Rollins was raw, a basketball player in college who switched to football. Now Rollins has had injury problems since getting to the Packers, so part of his development issues can be attributed to that, but yes, the past 2 drafts with King, Alexander, and Jackson may keep us from drafting CB early for the next few years, and to correct past messups.

I think in the case of Alexander it wasn't that they are mad they took a DB its that they didn't take the one they wanted (James). In Jackson's case I think it was more that they are bored with it and would like to see other needs addressed even though almost everyone agree that Jackson was a great value.

Part of the question is is it better to make small improvements at all positions of weakness or major improvements at one of the biggest positions of weakness. There are arguments to be made for both.

As long as the position remains a weakness I have no problem addressing it early and often. The only similarity IMO between this year and 2015 is that the first two picks were CBs. I think this time we actually got two players that might make it unnecessary for us to keep addressing the problem. Just because we have needs elsewhere doesn't make DB a lesser need.

I look at our defensive backfield now and I am very optimistic that we won't need to address the group for quite a while. We are very young with Alexander, Jackson and King at corner and Jones and Clinton-Dix at safety (Ok we also have Williams at corner but he will be replaced by one of the young guys maybe by next season if not earlier.) The only remaining concern I have for the unit now is safety after this season with Clinton Dix being a FA but we are in a whole lot better position than we were 3 days ago. Now its time to address the other positions.

I'm not sure who these people are, but when you field what was close to the worst pass defense in the league it MUST be addressed.

In catching a few snippets of interviews with our new cornerbacks there seems to be a shift in what constitutes a "Packer guy". These guys have attitude.

I think I gave the Randall pick a D+, something like that at the time, for misallocation of value, while half-joking that the Packers must be planning to convert Clinton-Dix to corner. Randall should never have been anything but a FS. Rollins was a reach.

These guys are not that. This is not Ted Thompso0n.

I think Gute is showing what he thinks of Thompson's defensive roster- it is garbage. I'm not a fan of double dipping, but Alexander and Jackson are 10x better CB prospects than Randall and Rollins. You reach for 2 DBs, and they don't work out, then you have a lot of holes.

Instead we got a guy who is coming off a year marred by leg and hand injuries and a guy who played in a mostly zone system.

Two talented players but certainly not locks to be great.
The draft is about talent and upside. Both corners are LOADED with both. Josh Norman is just a "zone corner." Hopefully we get one of those...

Man some of you cats are just too negative for my taste. I'm not saying homer out and praise every pick but some of you just look for the worst in every pick. Just chill, have a brew and enjoy the draft. Basically every publication has us killing it so far and none of them are wearing G&G colored glasses. Facts are facts, we've added some really nice pieces to the defensive unit and that's a good thing. G P G!!
