I'm just here so all the people who were like "he'll be gone 3 weeks after da Washington game....."
Sorry fellers. I'm here to stay
It isn't easy being a Bears fan on a Packer site. I know the feeling, having been a cop in Chicagoland. It's just as rough out there. What makes it even more interesting is the intense rivalry between our teams. If a fan sits down and sees just how much our franchises are locked at the hip. Both have turned to each other at different points in time to survive. You can see that the rivalry is also a deep friendship in the brotherhood of NFL football. Nobody else has anything like this in the league. It will never happen with anyone else, because nobody has survived from the beginning, except these two.

I started thinking, knowing football has been in Canada a long time, so I looked it up. There was a practice game at the University of Toronto in 1861, but the first game was at the Montreal Cricket Grounds in 1862 where a British and Scottish regiment took on one another. There was no Canada until five years later. This predates the (Princeton) New Jersey Rutgers US match of 1869. In 1873 the Toronto Argonauts were established as a professional football team, and are the oldest pro team in North America.

If a Packer fan was being jumped by a bunch of Vikings fans, I jump in and help the Packers fan screw the Vikings. Nobody likes them at any level for any reason except people that live in Minnesota, but they got more problems than just being a Vikings fan.

Psst.... I think the Cardinals organization predate both.
Good perspective. Actually, the Cardinals began in 1898. The team in GB, though not called the Packers until they were sponsored by the Green Bay Packing Co., started in 1896. The Bears started in Decatur, in 1919. The only team still playing in the city they started is the Packers.

So, actually the Cardinals are the first with the same name as they started. They've just moved around a bit.

Here's an interesting fact. In 1919, the Packers played their first game against the Menominee North End A.C, Menominee, MI. My Dad was part of the Menominee North team. On the following weekend, the Marinette All-Stars. Both games at Hagermeister Park in GB. My Dad was on the Menominee team, and ended up with a broken leg. Could never play football again. The Marinette team, the second weekend, the Marinette team was essentially the same players from the Menominee team. A little known fact. The Menominee team was pretty much the same team. After that, my Dad ended up going to the Packer games, and standing on the sidelines with the players, with several hip flasks with booze in them. Players would get a snort from him during the games.

Anyhow.... that's the rest of the story.

Oh Cookie Monster....... don't worry bubby. Uncle Caleb has a big chewy cookie for you anyways big dog.
Just look out for Oscar I'm pretty much positive. He lives in Philly in a trashcan and will steal your cookie.
Congrats! Poor game by the Packers. Couldn't quit committing infractions. Some dumb ones. Then, the idiocy test, when they failed to cover a punt, being pimped by the receiver. Totally unforgiveable. Cairo came through for your guys. Makes up for the last time he kicked against the Pack.

LeFleur was looking to the game as a chance to "tune up" for the playoffs, and instead walked away with questions that can't be addressed in a week.

Williams is learning. The kid needs blockers in front of him, not a bunch of guys who think blocking is someone else's job. He gets hit a lot. At the same time, he shows some real chops, hanging in there when he knows he's gonna get whacked!

If that offense catches up with the potential of your defense, you're going to be in the thick of it next year.

There's a bright future in Chicago for this kid!!!!!!

And been sacked almost 70 times this season he's tough. He's got guts and he's got talent.
And most importantly, he's all ours!!!!!!!!

The 2024 regular season is over, and barring any mistakes from me, these are the final results. Voyageur got locked in as to who might, or might not perform well in week 18, and pulled off a fantastic 14-2 record. Speaking of good records, milani picked 187 of 272 games correctly this season. No awards for that, but it will be worth an additional 150 points (or should that be worth 200 points??) in the 2025 contest. Voyageur's week 18 excellence pushed him into second place, a skinny five points ahead of milani in third. Our first place picker Canadian Cheddar got very lucky when he picked five bingo scores throughout the season racking up what turned out to be an insurmountable points lead.

We have a great little community of pickers in our corner of the Packer Forum.

Still, there are thirteen games left to play. For all of those who crave additional playoff thrills we offer up the Playoff Predictions Contest. Your contest information thread will likely be coming out Monday or Tuesday. All are welcome to join.

I don't want to be negative. Just being real here. I am in a pool that picks the games just like we do, but better. Weekly winners and the season's best records are paid out. I used my same picks as in our contest. I placed 30th of 44 in the pool with no winnings. There were a few weeks where as many as five players had no wrong picks at all. Of the 44 in the contest maybe one third are women, and one woman picked 201 games correctly to win the big prize. The pool has run for almost forty years , so I'm guessing (know) that there are some very good pickers in it. I erased the names except for the highlight on the second page.

Btw, Voyageur's 14-2 would have won him $120 Cdn for the best weekly record, which is the annual entry fee.

These are great pools. I played in them for several years, back in the 60s and 70s. Over the course of several years, I was constantly over 72% in my picks. I did win a few bucks playing it. I'm not even getting close to that now.

It was my first year in that particular pool. My luck, it's full of sharps, and women seem to be the sharpest. The lady that won had 73.9% correct. I am also in a pool where we pick every game against the spread. Eighty five in that pool. Over twelve years, I won it once, and tied for second. Versus the spread a 58% correct rate can get you first place. Picking versus the spread is more humbling. Vegas likely made a lot of money on football this weekend. I went 6-10 versus 11-5 straight up. The favorites won at a 58% rate this season making it slightly easier to pick games straight up. The two tied in the spread pool lead were 59.7% correct this season. I was down in 25th place with only 52.5% correct.

Back in the 60s, I tried betting the parlay cards. I never hit on any of them. If I recall correctly, I was playing a 5-game parlay or maybe 7? I can't remember to be honest. It had a huge payback, if you won, but I never did. I had a rough time getting to 4 every week. I decided it wasn't for me. But that jackpot for getting it right was some huge bucks at the time.

Getting 59.7% in a spread pool is a huge number. We're talking about people who spend a lot of time digging deep into every facet of an impending game. That's in the range of the insider gamblers in Vegas. A person thinking they're getting close to them if they have 55 to 57% is kidding themselves. That next 3% is the hardest thing to reach that there is. The spreads are so accurate that they make a game slide either way constantly on something as simple as a missed extra point, or getting a 2-point conversion.

Thanks Canadian Cheddar for running this. Much appreciated.

There wasn’t much in it % wise for the top 6. Bingos are the difference.

I definitely feel you on that voyager. Parlays are pretty much the only bet I make I had one for the Minnesota Lions game that was nine legs would've turned $7.50 into $1500.

And none of it was crazy.
I bet on the under
Ahman st Brown, Aaron Jones, Jamar Gibbs and Justin Jefferson all to have at least one touchdown.
Sam Darnold 2 passing touchdowns
Gibbs with 74 rushing yards Justin Jefferson with 85 receiving yards
Vikings cover the 3 1/2 point spread
It could've happened it didn't, but I don't think anyone of those was out of the realm of possibility now all of them happening is where it gets you but still I take that bed every day of the week Vikings lions game that they both have to play every minute of it in the last week of the season because the number one spot in the NFC is on the line

I had picked the Vikings, and it was painful to continually watch Sam Darnold's high passes. It didn't help that the Lions secondary was stuck to Minnies receivers like glue. Gibbs was awesome.

Two great teams. I felt Detroit got the better of the refs calls. Home team. But I give Campbell and his staff lot of credit. Their D game plan was executed
almost flawlessly. All the stops inside the 10! Could the Packers have done that? Not a chance. Their pressure was enough to throw Darnold and his receivers off. If the Packers use that game plan we get burned.
Looking more like Lions-Chiefs in February.

I can't remember who said it, but they gave Ben Johnson a lot of credit because they brought up that Nick Saban always said it's not plays it's players and so Jamir Gibbs was the best player that they were not gonna be able to key on because they doubled almond Saint Brown all game And my guy went off

This is probably the greatest Lions team of all time. Not the number one players in their entire history, but when it comes to team and depth, I can't think of any in the past that were better. When you look at the guys they have on IR, and think of what they've done this year, you gotta believe that next year they're going to be something special again. You can't help but believe the players are working under great coaches.

It's going to take a lot for any of the other teams in the division to compete with them next year as well. After that, the cap and father time will start to take it's toll.
