Hey there,
as I promised in the Lions game thread, this is my introduction to all the cheeseheads and guest fans here
First of all - yeah, I know, I am able to communicate in english, nevertheless there might be some mistakes and bad wordings in my postings so have some patience while reading my posts and if there is something incomprehensible - please ask before getting upset
So well, I am a 50 year old guy from Germany, watching NFL and especially Packers for well over 20 years now. As so many Germans I was discouraged to watch football before because of the complex ruleset and the huge amount of time that some football matches consume. But to be honest - in the meantime I really started to enjoy especially these things as great aspects of this fascinating sport. That fascination grew more and more so that I started playing football by myself - but of course I chose flag football as I am really sure I would break in two when trying to play tackle
The key for me to start watching football was of course someone to introduce me to the game. You can read many rulebooks and many articles about football, but of course nothing is as great as watching a game on TV and having someone to explain all the things that happen there on the field. Yeah and as you might imagine - this guy to explain all this stuff to me was and still is a cheesehead, we are still watching Packers games together from time to time.
The weird thing is - as soon as you start getting deeper into this game and start talking about football with other guys, all of a sudden so many people pop up and start unmasking as football fans. One of my oldest friends is into the Seahawks, another one spent a lot of time in Philadelphia and goes with the Eagles and of course especially during the last years you meet a huge amount of Chiefs fans. That is how things go - having success creates a lot of "fans". But I will refer again on that point in the "what made you a Packers fan" section of this board.
What else can I say to introduce me? Well - you won't be surprised, that for over 20 years now I would love to see a Packers game a Lambeau Field live and spend some time with the great cheesehead community. I have never seen a tailgating party - what is a huge difference for example to german soccer matches. No one would ever start any kind of party on the parking grounds here in Germany besides having a beer or two. I would love to spent some time before a game, checking out all the barbecues, beers and games that all these crazy guys roll out there. Must be fantastic. In Germany of course you know all the pubs in the area of the stadium, go there and meet friends and people, but I think thats not the same as a "real" tailgating party
If I should ever make it to Green Bay, I will write down a request here to meet some people over there to get some professional introduction to Green Bay and the Packers
