If you got Gaines, would you still want Jackson?

It all depends which other prospects have been selected before the Packers are on the clock. If Landry is still available he would most likely be my favorite choice.

I’d rather have Revis and Williams. House sucks

The Packers should definitely pass on the idea of signing Revis.

Would they? I mean, it'd put them right up against the cap when you add in the rookies but by my math (which is sketchy at best) they could fit it in.

The Packers would have only $8 million of cap space left after trading for Peterson. With the rookie class, players #52 and #53 as well as the practice squad taking up approximately $6 million of it the team would have to make a corresponding move at some point.

I'd be ok with Jackson but Jaire is my top choice now if we stay at 14.

I would consider drafting Alexander at #14 a reach.

No kidding. Do you really think that the Packers would make a trade like this without considering the ramifications? Do you think us casual fans posting on a website are the only ones considering the roster impacts of trading one of our starting CBs?

Gutekunst and the rest of the front office definitely have a plan to upgrade at cornerback but as long as it doesn't materalize I understand fans being concerned about the lack of talent at the position.

That being said, what if Pettine came in took a look at the group, watched some film and said he can make Pipkins a viable option, or Goodson, or if he came in and said Josh Jones is a better option at safety today in my scheme than Morgan Burnett.

The point is, we just don't know what's going on inside the Lambeau. I don't doubt Gute is working the phones and seeing what his options are but there is a possibility that as a group they think what they have may just be okay with an improved pass rush. It's infuriating to me as a fan because I don't know the ins and outs of how to build a defense but they do (or at least we hope).

The Packers signing Fuller to an offer sheet indicates that the front office and coaching staff aren't content with the talent level at cornerback though.

My gut tells me that....

we grab a Veteran FA from outside the Organization at CB. Might not be ideal but can buy us time until we finish assembling the roster in the draft and again in 2019.
Then we find some (2) adequate DBs this year in rounds 2-5 that have a high talent upside, have strengths that Pettine envisions will fit his mold in conjunction with what he’s doing upfront and are highly trainable.

I really like the traits of Isaiah Oliver, if he’s hanging around looking for work in round 2 he’s on my radar in that early CB grouping.

If we’re able to get a Pass Rush specialist early that fits the mold we should do it. Particularly if a guy like Edmunds somehow, someway slips to us. I’d also consider Davenport if both Edmunds AND our ideal CB/S is gone.

Both Davenport and Edmunds are a work in progress and would most likely take some time to develop into an impact player at the pro level. While it might be worth the risk in the long haul the Packers might be inclined to go with a safer pick.
