Nice article, but he interviewed for the Jets job and didn't get it long ago.

Your thread title is click bait. Jk.:D

With no head coaching jobs currently being open in the NFL it should have been clear what the article is about. Obviously not for everyone though ;)

HaHa

Yes, however the article is indeed NOT mainly about his 'first interview after being fired'

I did enjoy the article though, eventhough your title is misleading. Thanks for posting it:tup:

Is there another interview out there with him between last December and now? I haven't been scrolling thru everything, but I haven't seen or heard anything from him at all since being fired until now.

It is McCarthy's first interview with the media after being fired though.
I was thinking maybe he interviewed for a college job or if he interviewed at Home Depot, that would have been a interesting factoid.:p

Oh well, glad he is doing well.

Florio on PFT is having a field day spinning this McCarthy article to the negative.

Dude is ALWAYS such a Packers hater. It is just way past old now. His agenda is obvious and pathetic. He is such a little weasel.

Not to mention the Vikings fan/troll who uses 90+ screen names in the comments for Packers articles on PFT. The troll is probably Florio himself as well.

NFL is going through a phase of hiring young dynamic managers who can rekindle interest in teams. Old warhorses like MM would find it difficult to compete anymore.

Completely agree on Florio. The guy is terrible when it comes to the Packers. I have quit reading his stuff because it almost always has a negative spin. He seems to have a real axe to grind with Rodgers too.

To McCarthy. The team looked awful much of the year. He was given a very long leash. He was given back to back Hall of Fame qbs. He should thank his lucky stars he got the opportunity he did

Two HOF QB's. One SB trip (A win) in 13 years. That isn't good enough. And he had a long leash. He should've been fired immediately after the Seattle debacle in 2014. He had his chances.

The Packers fired him when they did because they wanted to get a head start on the candidate list. It makes sense.

I think McCarthy is only upset that he got fired WHEN he did. Getting canned 10 mins after a game during the season bothered him. He has implied he knew it was coming if the Pack didn't make the playoffs.

I agree with Murphy's and Gute's decision and when they did it, but I think McCarthy felt the season was not 100% lost at that point, eventhough really it was.

I believed then, and still believe now, there was no point to firing McCarthy when they did.

He is a Packer HOF coach. He won a SB. Has a road named after him. Was the teams official spokesman on everything rather than TT, because Ted didn't like to do media. Murphy should not have treated him the way he did at the end...the season was lost already. What was the point? Firing him was absolutely the right move, and should have been done the off-season prior, but firing him mid-season after a game was absolute bush league.

For an organization that prides itself on "Packer People" it was quite hypocritical.

You can interview with a HC intact. It's been done before.

I think it would have been a bigger slap in the face to keep him on as HC and still interview others. "OK Mike, we want you to keep busting your *** trying to make something of this horseshit season but while you are doing that you won't mind if we start interviewing guys to replace you do you? No?... Great, you're such an asset to this team. I don't know how we are going to get along with out you but we are sure as heck going to try. Now if you don't mind I have some calls to make. You wouldn't happen to have Josh McDaniel's number handy would you? No... OK, well I'm sure I have it around here somewhere. Could you close the door on your way out. Thanks." yeah, that just screams class right there.

I don't think the timing issue was as much being fired mid season as it was being fired 10 or 15 minutes (or however long it was) after losing a game. If they had waited until the next morning I don't think the fallout would have been so bad. I don't know that the mid season firing benefited the Packers at all but I don't see how it would have benefited either side to wait.

He should’ve been fired long ago. It was a downward spiral. He’s either delusional that he didn’t see it coming or it’s an effort to give a black eye to the organization out of resentment.
I made a big mistake thinking he was a high character guy. This is childish. Especially coming right after that video of him acting like a spoiled 5 year old.

If Favre hadn't chucked the rocket ball INT in the NFC Championship game against the Giants in '07 ...

If Aaron hadn't fumbled against Arizona that was returned for a TD ...

For those of you who keep beating that "Two HOF QBs and only 1 SB", I have to ask, which offensive position handles the football for nearly every offensive snap?

What if Bostick couldn't find his helmet prior to that on side kick?

Yeah... easy to tell people who is to blame...

It's an incredibly difficult thing to win the Super Bowl. Just like everyone has been saying it's incredibly different to win the Final Four in NCAA basketball. Lose one game along the way and you're done. So two HOF QBs and two Super Bowl wins would sound more palatable if it weren't for the fact that New England makes it look so damned easy.

I don't consider anything McCarthy said in the interview resulting in him not being a high character guy.

Once again, he was well aware that there's was a decent chance of getting fired if the Packers didn't make the playoffs last season.

Murphy should have handled it significantly better.

I don't read anything in there that says he's a low character person either, I think it shows quite the opposite. But then i've learned the some people actually like Pepsi and drive Chevys too, so...

I get the impression that Murphy isn't Mr. Personality. Not that he doesn't have any, because i've seen him joke around and show some, but when it comes to things like this he does seem like the type that either just has to get it over with rather than have it hanging around. Figured he made the decision, just do it.

and while fired is fired and i think the ending was written after that game, it wouldn't have killed anybody to wait until the next day. It wouldn't have made any difference to tell Mike he was being replaced, you can go home to your family or finish out the season. Joe wasn't going to replace him, so I don't buy the notion of giving him a chance to get the job. Maybe? But I don't really believe so. and there really is no benefit in keeping someone around once you've made the decision to fire him, and he was still getting paid, so it's not like they tossed him on the streets with a kick in the ***. But it is kind of a bad look when you fire someone in that way. It's like they couldn't wait to get rid of him and I think that's a bad way to go about replacing one of your winningest coaches who has brought a lot of success for quite a while. It's not like they knocked on his door and he was nose deep in hookers and cocaine one day.

Read Dunne's Bleacher Report story. I dont recall Dunne ever writing a story that didn't border on muckraking. Pellisaro disputed Dunne's version.
