I wrote a paragraph complimenting his play just yesterday or the day before. This is one more reason to believe Daniels will not be extended.
I think Daniels has a pretty good year, playing for a contract from someone else. Things can change, but right now we have a good chunk of quality youth on the interior of that DL. I don't foresee a big chunk of change for a 3rd contract on an aging big guy.

The way things are going these days, 4 years/$20 mil is not out of the question.

Martinez?

I'm still not ruling out a Daniels trade before the season starts.

#Packers DL Dean Lowry's extension is $6.775 million/3 years, per source.

Personally, I think this is a great deal for the Packers if its true.

Lowry isn't GREAT, but he has been solid.

Now I am seeing this, so guessing the original report was mistyped and is $6.775/year?

It’s a three-year extension worth a little more than $20 million with a $6 million signing bonus, a source said.

definitely not out of the question. if some younger guys come on like lancaster last year and he continues to show growth in the preseason, it becomes a lot more likely. Wouldn't surprise me, but to maximize i think teams are going to want to see Daniels perform after that injury.

Unless we get a very good return, which is questionable, I don't think they'd trade a key cog on the line to another team - given that the team has playoff aspirations and will need very good play from the d-line to achieve that.

the definition of decent-to-good depth guy. a soldier. you have to have guys like him. not an injury concern (oops...did i say that out loud?) as he's only missed one game. *thumbs up*

I don't think Daniels gets traded. He only has one year left on a contract, that most teams would probably view as overpaying him. Only way he gets traded is if his contract is redone to a multi year deal and less money/year. Mike is worth hanging onto, he was injured much of last year, a team leader and still has gas in his tank.

You might be surprised. Injuries might lead another team to be interested in a trade. Daniels is not the caliber of player to be involved in a trade-and-extend given his age and coming off injury.

A trading partner would be taking on his $7.6 mil salary with the Packers already on the hook for the rest of his 2019 cap. That's a little over half what the Rams paid Suh on a one year deal and a little less than Lowry's new per year amount. There might be interest. Of course I don't see the prime window of opportunity opening this season while that $7.6 mil would come in handy.

Is he a team leader? He assumes he is, he talks like it, often quite loudly, but does anyone listen?

i doubt it. why trade a guy who's going to try his damnedest to have a good/great year and a chance at one more good contract (even though it won't be with the Packers)? that could make him a real difference maker for the Packers this year.
I'm not seeing Daniels as a difference maker. Ending 2018 on IR, 30 years old, and he was not very impactful last season before he was injured. I don't see getting $7.6 mil in value out of him this season. He'll be 31 next season; he's not playing for some big contract after this season.

Looking ahead to next off-season, Lowry and Martinez were the only two guys that seemed to be important resignings. Now can be checked off. Lowry has been a consistently strong performer in rotation.

good to see. He gives us some more stability at D line. It also gives us more latitude on going after Daniels on a cheaper deal if he performs, without being too thin if Daniels is sent packing.

Seems like the rest of our free agents. 2nd contract 25 year olds. Overpaid for a player who hasn't broke out(yet). Good injury history...

Can't say I like 7mil a year... Too much imo.

Can't let daniels go until we spend some high picks on dline. Imo.

Great signing. Young player who is getting better each season. Packers must think he is going to continue to improve. Seems ( and based on this extension) like a high character guy, dedicated to football. This will look like a cheap deal in 2 yrs. He isnt HOF type but can be impactful.

I dont see Daniel's coming back. I believe he is in decline. I think we can get 1 more year out of him as he will be contract motivated and rejuvinated by new talent around him.

Great move by Gutekunst. With the Packers having even less cap space after extending Lowry there's reason to believe they might be ready to move on from Daniels before the start of the season.

Wow, I dont know that I agree with Daniels release. The more experience we have on that line the better IMO.

Lowry has played a lot of quality snaps. He isn't a star and he isn't being paid like one. If you look at current contracts, he slots in totally appropriately.
